Julia Garner confirms long-awaited Madonna biopic is still going ahead
Garner competed against other notable actors, including Florence Pugh, and underwent a 'bootcamp' overseen by Madonna herself.
She revealed that her audition required her to learn to dance and sing in front of Madonna.
Despite previous rumours of its cancellation, Garner confirmed the film is 'supposed to still happen'.
The biopic was put on hold for Madonna's Celebration Tour, but work on the script has since resumed.

Madonna and Julia are working with filmmaker Shawn Levy on the project, which is in the early stages of development. Confirming that the project was still happening, despite the uncertainty, Julia told the SmartLess podcast: 'Yeah, I mean, that's supposed to still happen." Affirming her status as a huge fan of the Material Girl singer, Julia continued: 'It just came about. I knew they were doing a project, making a movie about it, and then I went out to audition. 'I kind of just wanted to see if I could do it, because I wasn't a trained dancer and I had to learn how to dance and then dance in front of her and convince her that I can dance, basically, and sing. "And sing with her!' She also opened up on how she has adopted a 'what would Madonna do' strategy to help cope with nerves. Julia added: ''OK, what would Madonna do?' Which is convince you that she deserves, you know, to be in this room, and I owned it. "I was kind of like, 'You can take it or leave it, but if you leave it, if I leave, then that's on you''. However, she did appear to hint that the project may still be far off hitting screens as she affirmed that "anything that's great, takes time". Writing on Instagram, the Queen of Pop said: "After struggling for days in LA, listening to producers and agents tell me why I couldn't make my film, I realised that everything in my life is going to be challenged. "No easy rides for me. I guess I should be grateful.. "It forces me to think outside the box. I did not have a normal life. I cannot make this in the normal way." 5 Madonna has been desperate to make a movie about her life for years Credit: Getty
