The New Mercedes-AMG CLE 53 Manufaktur Edition Gives the Coupe Even More Attitude

Yahoo04-04-2025
The Mercedes-AMG CLE 53 just got more AMG.
Mercedes unveiled on Thursday the new Mercedes-AMG CLE 53 Manufaktur Edition, a version of the speedy coupe and cabriolet that is a lively celebration of AMG and a gift to AMG's many fans. The limited-edition model is to be sold at American dealerships later this year, Mercedes said. The coupe version of the car is painted Graphite Grey Magno with yellow rim flanges and AMG graphics on the side, along with 20-inch AMG wheels.

The convertible, or cabriolet, version of the car is painted in Starling Blue Magno, while the AMG graphic touches are in black and blue instead of yellow. The 20-inch wheels are AMG exclusive. Under the hood of both cars is a 3.0-liter, turbocharged six-cylinder engine that makes 443 horsepower. Power runs through a 9-speed automatic transmission and variably goes to all four wheels.
The coupe also features various other AMG touches on the outside, including the front fascia, fenders, mirror housings, bumper, and tailpipes. The cabriolet, meanwhile, gets more carbon fiber to lighten the car and look good, including on the front fascia and rear bumper.
The inside gets standard a 'performance sound' system to customize engine noise in the cabin. Drivers and passengers will have the option of choosing between a balanced mix of engine noise and a 'powerful' mix of engine noise, depending on the mood. More importantly, not only will every other part of your new CLE scream AMG, but the car cover and fuel cap will, too.
'A final sophisticated detail of both the Coupe and Cabriolet is the AMG fuel cap in silver chrome with black design elements,' Mercedes says. 'Each AMG CLE MANUFAKTUR Edition model also includes a custom, edition-specific AMG indoor car cover.'
The brand did not release a price for the CLE 53 Manufaktur Edition, but the Mercedes-AMG CLE 53 Coupe starts at $74,300, so you can expect the Manufaktur Edition to be a bit more. Mercedes also did not mention how many Manufaktur Edition CLE 53s it would be producing, other than to say they would be made in limited numbers. That could mean buyers should inquire early and often about getting one, or it could also mean that Mercedes-AMG could be persuaded to make a few more depending on demand.Best of Robb Report

Why both Mercedes drivers felt 'more confident' in F1 Hungarian GP qualifying

But for a snap of oversteer midway through the Hungaroring's final corner, George Russell could have been on pole for Formula 1's Hungarian Grand Prix. His last 'push lap' ended up just 0.053s slower than surprise polesitter Charles Leclerc for Ferrari. The picture of relative performance in the final part of qualifying was clouded by huge swings in track temperature and wind direction – but both Mercedes drivers agreed that reverting to the W16's pre-Imola rear-suspension spec helped them, even if rookie Andrea Kimi Antonelli was eliminated in Q2. 'It's a bit of a shame that we didn't go earlier to the old suspension because definitely today, this weekend overall, I felt far more confident in the car than I was before,' said Antonelli. 'And, yeah, it's a shame because I think today the result could have been much better.' For the Emilia-Romagna Grand Prix in May, Mercedes introduced a new rear suspension geometry aimed at countering the rear's natural tendency to lift under heavy deceleration as the weight transfers forwards. In theory this would be beneficial not just to the aerodynamics, by keeping the car at a stable altitude relative to the track surface, but also to rear-tyre performance because it would reduce the tendency of those wheels to lock under braking. Andrea Kimi Antonelli, Mercedes Ground-effect aerodynamics work at their best if the car's ride height and angle remains consistent. But anti-lift geometry on the rear axle is fundamentally more complicated than it is at the front, given the forces acting on that area of the car. Even when it works as anticipated, it generally provides less feedback to the driver, which accounts for both Russell and Antonelli reporting a lack of confidence in the W16's rear end since the new rear suspension was definitively fitted in Canada. That would certainly account for Antonelli's form during the European season, which he admitted was disastrous. But the team's decision-making was influenced by Russell's win in Canada; after a disappointing weekend in Imola, it went back to the old rear suspension for Monaco before opting for the new one in Montreal. The lesson for anyone applying upgrades whose virtues have only been proven in simulation is that different tracks and variable conditions can muddle the verdict on new components. "I think Formula 1 is so complex because even if you have the exact same car, one circuit you're quick, one circuit you're slow, and there's different reasons why there's this,' said Russell after qualifying in Hungary. 'And you sometimes need to give an upgrade a real test on different types of circuits, different types of conditions, to categorically say 'this is why we're good or this is why we're bad'. Barcelona, Imola, they were all very hot race weekends. George Russell, Mercedes 'We believe that was our root cause and it still is a big factor of our limitation. But clearly in Spa, we were very underwhelming and clearly the suspension was not an upgrade." Montreal, where most of the braking is done in a straight line and there are few high-speed or combined corners, didn't expose what proved to be fundamental limitations with the later rear-suspension design. The lack of dynamic feedback on more flowing circuits made the W16 feel more unpredictable – particularly for Antonelli, given his more flamboyantly aggressive driving style. But Russell also introduced a note of realism, pointing out that the change may not be as transformative as it appears. 'Q3 was a messy session,' he said. 'We took the smallest step backwards from Q2 – I was only a tenth slower than Q2. Charles was two tenths slower, Fernando was two tenths slower, McLaren was six tenths slower. 'I'm not going to get carried away with that Q3 performance, because for the rest of the weekend it hasn't been straightforward. Of course, Kimi was also out in Q2 and it's not been plain sailing." 2025 Mercedes-AMG G63 For Sale With Just 2,200 Miles

Everyone knows what a Mercedes-Benz G-Class is. Colloquially known as the G-Wagen, Mercedes's once-rugged military off-roader has morphed into a symbol of wealth and opulence for those who are well-to-do and want people to know. The most recent generation of the G-Wagen carries that legacy forward, especially in the performance-oriented AMG G63 variant. This particular one with just 2,200 miles is for sale on Exotic Car Trader, and you can check out the listing by clicking here. Finished in the eye-catching and special shade of MANUFAKTUR Sun Yellow, this 2025 Mercedes-AMG G63 sports a few additional extras to help it stand out from the other G-Wagens on Rodeo Drive. For starters, this example has the AMG Night Package, which adds darkened headlights and an underguard finished in Obsidian Black that matches the Obsidian Black front bumper and AMG Dark Chrome radiator grille. What hasn't been finished in black or Dark Chrome was finished in carbon fiber instead, thanks to the AMG Carbon Fiber option. The SUV sits on 22-inch AMG multi-spoke forged wheels in black with performance low-profile tires if off-roading isn't your main goal. Thinking about selling your car? Get a value estimate and list it online with Exotic Car Trader. Click here to learn more. The five-seat interior carries a rather contrasting theme of two-tone Red Pepper and Black, with all of the modern Mercedes-Benz amenities you expect, like multi-zone climate control, a digital gauge cluster, an infotainment screen ith Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, a Burmester sound system, and the Parking Package with a 360-degree camera system. Carrying on the MANUFAKTUR-specced theme from the exterior, the cabin is clad with the MANUFAKTUR Interior Package Plus, which adds Nappa leather and comfort features like drive-dynamic multicontour front seats with massage functions, rapid seat heating, ventilated front seats, and the ENERGIZING Comfort system. The excitement really happens under the hood, though, with a 4.0L BiTurbo V8 that makes 577 hp and 627 lb-ft of torque through a 9-speed AMG Speedshift TCT automatic transmission with AMG 4MATIC all-wheel drive. 0-60 mph comes in under 4.5 seconds, and if you decide to swap the boulevard-cruising tires for some off-road rubber, three locking differentials are also at your disposal. There aren't many things to be said about the G-Wagen that haven't already been said. It's big, it's boxy, it's show-offy, and it really holds a spot in the luxury SUV segment that can't be occupied by any other car. Sure, the model has deviated a lot from its military roots, but those dedicated to the hobby can still turn a G-Wagen into a serious off-roader. It's an even more powerful beast in its G63 AMG guise, easily beating some performance cars to the punch. With a $237,500 asking price, this MANUFAKTUR-specced example is up there in price, and the mustard and ketchup color scheme is a little out there, but you're sure to turn heads wherever you take it. After all, isn't that one of the main reasons to own a G-Wagen? Copyright 2025 The Arena Group, Inc. All Rights Reserved.

Test Driving The Mercedes-Benz E 450 All Terrain, A Most Elegant Wagon

All about the rear bodywork, from Sindelfingen with love. Mercedes-Benz E 450 All Terrain and its AMG brother are elegant and luxurious alternatives to an SUV. All Terrain has the profile of a slingshot stretched to full extension, ready to fire. Or perhaps a shooting star is the appropriate metaphor. Roof, shoulder and character lines all arc to the rear bodywork. Mark Ewing Family legacy can demand out of the ordinary tasks, like a 250-mile round trip in a tight timeframe to retrieve family heirlooms. For this rapid-strike journey, I was blessed with this Mercedes All Terrain wagon, which transformed what could have been an onerous duty into a pleasurable and comfortable journey, this elegant wagon eating up miles with aid of intelligent cruise control, air suspension set to Comfort, and the depthless joys of Sirius/XM radio. Upon return, I had a brief stretch of back and legs, then and headed to the garden to work for a few hours, no trouble. A mountain 2-lane might not be a wagon's native territory, but it's the best place to snap photos in peace, and the E 450 All Terrain acquitted itself well. As one expects with a well-sorted German vehicle, all the weights and actions of controls instantly read the brain. Location of all controls and switchgear follows logic sorted by Mercedes over the decades, and new technologies like the touchscreen panels of the Superscreen dash are smoothly integrated. Coolly logical. Mark Ewing With its long hood, swept but tall windshield, sharp lines defining the flanks, and long arc of the roof ending in a curvaceous yet taut rump, All Terrain has the profile of a slingshot stretched to full extension, ready to fire. Or perhaps a shooting star is the appropriate metaphor. It's all about the rear bodywork: From Sindelfingen, with love. Big door frames for easily clambering in and out. High-quality leather and interior materials. On a 250-mile round trip, the seats proved supportive and comfortable. Massage function available. No, not supercar seats with massive side bolstering, but perfectly executed luxury chairs. The car will lope along at any speed you choose up to three digits. It's very, very happy on the open highway. Mark Ewing Mercedes has a 'parts bin' of subsystems the envy of all other manufacturers. In All Terrain, we find the tidy 375 horsepower straight six turbo that pairs with a mild hybrid system that adds a bit of torque at lower speeds. Rear seats also comfortable for full-sized adults. Note the squared-off upper rear door frame—no bonking of heads climbing in or out. Obviously in the photo, foot, leg and knee room are plentiful. Driver seat in the photo is set for me, six foot two+. Mark Ewing Squeeze the throttle pedal firmly to the carpet and the engine room answers with more forward thrust, the 9-speed kicking down several gears nearly instantly, and the car rushing onward with accompaniment of a classic but subtle straight six yowl. Excellent acceleration is available anywhere below 100 mph, which is right where you want it. Dawdlers and people cruising on the highway while staring down at smartphones, are dusted off with ease. All Terrain covers 0-60 mph in 4.5 seconds. When I was a mere Boy Editor, very few sports cars, no matter the size of the engine, could match or beat that time. These are the good old days for acceleration junkies. Mark Ewing For data hounds, it covers 0-60 mph in 4.5 seconds. When I was a mere Boy Editor, very few sports cars, no matter the size of the engine, could match or beat that time. These are the good old days for acceleration junkies. Test car equipped with the Superscreen option. The passenger can control numerous functions like navigation and audio, becoming copilot on any journey. For family travel, it's worth every penny. Steering column adjusts widely. Plenty of cubby space in center console. Smartphone recharging pad in lead cubby. Note camera on center dash top, for Zoom meetings when parked. Mark Ewing Air springing is standard, and those 'balloons' combined with superb suspension architecture and advanced dampers (nee shock absorbers) deliver excellent ride quality even with the optional 20-inch AMG wheels. Set to Comfort, the car simply glides along the highway. Even in the hellacious conditions of Greater Los Angeles, the suspension absorbs severe potholes, broken surfaces and expansion joints with little more than the sound of a muffled timpani strike. All Terrain is about as German and Mercedes as a car can be, with final assembly on the holy grounds of Sindelfingen. My test car wore a rich shade of Patagonia Red from Mercedes' in-house atelier service, MANUFAKTUR. Optional AMG 20-inch wheels are most desirable. Note long hood, shoulder lines and character lines on flanks. A shooting star. Mark Ewing On the much better highways leading north to Santa Barbara or south to San Diego, All Terrain loafs along, its intelligent cruise control reducing stress. On a decent stretch of highway, there's little or nothing to disrupt mental contemplation of life's mysteries, pure Zen Time. Mercedes has evolved this approach to seat controls for decades, and it works. That little 'pillow' at the leading edge of the bottom cushion extends the seat bottom outward for those with long legs who need more under-thigh support. Several memory settings that incorporate mirrors. Heating and cooling functions. The cooling function helps traveling long-distance, particularly in summer. Burmester audio is standard on Pinnacle. Mark Ewing An elaboration of the newly launched E-class, All Terrain is about as German and Mercedes as a car can be, with final assembly on the holy grounds of Sindelfingen. My test car wore a rich shade of Patagonia Red from Mercedes' in-house atelier service, MANUFAKTUR. On a decent stretch of highway, there's little or nothing to disrupt mental contemplation of life's mysteries, pure Zen Time. Mark Ewing My car was also Pinnacle trim level, meaning most of the good stuff is standard. I strongly recommend the optional Superscreen and the driver assistance package with all its sensors and braking/steering interventions. Both make life behind the wheel more pleasant. Almost anyone who does not need the maximum cargo capacity of an SUV will find this a pleasing daily driver. If you want an elegant German station wagon, E 450 All Terrain and its AMG brother are arguably the best choices. Other German luxury wagons exist—with and without enormously powerful engines—but those options are more aggressively 'styled,' and thus not truly elegant. All Terrain has far more than enough power to deal with the eventualities of everyday life in the big city. All Terrain proved entirely competent in the expected German way on open highway, mountain two-lanes and on the rough streets and freeways of Los Angeles. Mark Ewing
