Dungun cops: Mother and toddler killed in Kerteh crash, four family members injured
Dungun police chief Supt Maizura Abdul Kadir said Nur Suhailla Azman died at the scene, while her daughter Nur Aira Humaira Mohamad Sharool died on the way to the Ketengah Jaya Health Clinic here.
Maizura said the woman's husband, 32-year-old Mohamad Sharool Nizam Hamzah and their three-year-old daughter Nur Aisya Humaira suffered minor injuries.
'Two more victims — Mohamad Sharool's mother Timah Mohamad, 73, and her son Ruzaimi Abd Rashid, 48 — suffered serious injuries.
'It is believed that all victims were in the car on their way home from Dungun to Felda Kerteh 4 when the accident occurred,' Maizura said when contacted.
The injured victims were taken to Dungun Hospital, while the two bodies were taken to the hospital's forensic unit. — Bernama

'The diving team lowered Remote Operated Vehicle (ROV) equipment to assist in the search, but as of 6.50pm, no positive findings or leads have been obtained,' he said in a statement yesterday. Hamiludin said the two survivors, Volkan Ata and Ates Demiroren, 42, have been discharged from hospital after their health conditions stabilised. 'The Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA) asks all parties who have information or see any suspicious objects around the incident area to immediately report to the authorities or the Terengganu Maritime Operations Centre at 09-6224357,' he said. Decade of incest horror: Melaka mechanic caught for raping daughter since she was 8
KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 6 — Police in Melaka arrested a 41-year-old man suspected of raping his daughter for the past 10 years at their home in Taman Tambak Paya Harmoni yesterday evening. The case came to light when the victim, now 18 years old, revealed her father's abusive behaviour to her mother at approximately 10pm last Saturday, Berita Harian reported. Following this revelation, the woman fled to Kuala Lumpur with all her children with help from her brother at around 12.30am on Sunday. The housewife had previously suspected her husband's incestuous acts but lacked concrete evidence to take action. The eldest daughter, who works at a goldsmith, told her mother that she had been raped by the suspect since she was eight years old, with the most recent incident occurring earlier this month. Other children also informed their mother that the suspect had attempted similar acts against them, while the man regularly beat the children causing injuries, but the wife did not file police reports due to threats from the suspect. The woman subsequently filed a report at the Tiang Dua Police Station to facilitate her daughter's medical examination at the hospital, leading to further police investigation and the mechanic's arrest. Melaka Police Chief Datuk Dzulkhairi Mukhtar confirmed the case report and the suspect's arrest, saying the latter has been remanded for seven days starting yesterday until Monday to assist investigations under Section 376B of the Penal Code for incest. The offence is punishable by between 10 and 30 years' imprisonment as well as caning.

Over 400 tonnes of hazardous battery waste found at unlicensed Kedah factory, DOE seizes equiment
ALOR SETAR, Aug 6 — The Kedah Department of Environment (DOE) has enforced Equipment Operation Seizure (POK) provisions against a factory in the Bukit Selambau Industrial Area, Sungai Petani, suspected of conducting unlicensed off-site scheduled waste storage and recovery activities. Kedah DOE director Sharifah Zakian Syed Sahab said the action was taken during an 'Op Gempur' operation from 9am to 1pm yesterday, which revealed the facility was operating without Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) approval or a valid DOE licence. 'During the inspection, we found approximately 100 metric tonnes of used lithium batteries and around 317 metric tonnes of crushed used batteries, both classified as scheduled waste,' she said in a statement. Additionally, about 20 metric tonnes of recovered metal powder were discovered on site. She said the department seized the factory's production equipment under Section 38(1)(a) of the Environmental Quality Act 1974, as they were being operated without pollution control systems or DOE approval. Investigations are ongoing under Sections 18(1), 34A(6) and 34B(1) of the same Act. Sharifah Zakian said DOE Kedah will continue to strengthen monitoring and enforcement efforts, particularly targeting illegal waste processing activities that cause environmental pollution and pose public health risks.
