Anti-drug awareness programme held at JNTUH
Hyderabad: Jawaharlal Nehru Technological University Hyderabad (JNTUH) and University College of Engineering Science and Technology Hyderabad (UCESTH) organized an Anti-Drug Awareness Programme on Tuesday in observance of the International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking, which is celebrated annually on June 26.
Abhish Chakrabarty, the Superintendent of the Narcotics Control Bureau for the Hyderabad Zone, was the chief guest at the event. He addressed the students about the harmful effects of drug abuse, detailing various physical health problems, including organ damage, reduced immunity, and psychological issues. He also discussed mood swings, social isolation, potential job or educational losses, legal consequences such as imprisonment or fines, and the negative impact on financial stability.
Chakrabarty also highlighted the support systems available to drug addicts through both Central and State Governments. The College Principal, Prof. G.V. Narasimha Reddy, emphasized the importance of making students aware of the narcotics trade that occurs across international borders and discussed the challenges involved in controlling drug supply. He conveyed a strong message: 'Say 'No' to Drugs.'

Gadwal: As part of the Anti-Drug Awareness Week celebrations, the Jogulamba Gadwal District Police conducted an awareness program at the Boys' High School in the district headquarters. Acting on the directions of District Superintendent of Police (SP) Shri T. Srinivasa Rao, IPS, Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Shri V. Mogilayya led the session and addressed students on the dangers of drug and substance abuse, especially focusing on the growing threat of marijuana (ganja) and other intoxicants. Mogilayya emphasized that creating a drug-free district requires active participation from all citizens. He warned students against falling into the trap of addiction, particularly stressing how some youth, in search of temporary happiness or thrill, are ruining their futures by indulging in marijuana and other drugs. > 'Addiction destroys life. Let us drive out the drug menace and build a drug-free society for the future generations,' said DSP Mogilayya. He also highlighted that a special surveillance system has been put in place to monitor individuals involved in the use or trafficking of drugs, noting that addiction often leads to mental instability and criminal behavior. DSP Mogilayya pointed out that marijuana and similar substances pose severe risks to health, including damage to nerves, the heart, and other major organs. Parents and Teachers Have a Key Role to Play DSP Mogilayya urged parents and teachers to closely monitor their children's activities, as early detection of risky behavior can help prevent lifelong consequences. He expressed concern that some youth, despite having bright futures, are being lured into bad habits that could ruin their lives. He stated that the police department is committed to curbing the drug menace by involving rural and urban communities alike, ensuring that youth stay away from narcotic substances and illegal currency exchanges linked to drug trade. The goal, he stressed, is to contribute to building a Drug-Free Telangana. Widespread Participation in Awareness Program The event saw enthusiastic participation from students, teachers, and police staff. Members of the SHE Team, including SI Swathi and other personnel, were actively involved in the program. They helped in sensitizing students about the legal, health, and social consequences of drug use. Key Messages from the Awareness Campaign: "Let's eliminate the drug epidemic, and hand over a drug-free society to future generations." "Intoxication ruins life." "Youth should not destroy their future in pursuit of temporary pleasure." "Fighting drug abuse is a collective responsibility." Tripura CM reiterates a zero-tolerance stand to drug trafficking
Agartala, June 25 (UNI) Tripura Chief Minister Dr Manik Saha on Wednesday reiterated his zero-tolerance stand against drug traffickers as central and state governments took a firm stance against drugs. He said that drug seizures in Tripura have increased by 104% from 2023–24 to 2024–25, while drug destruction has seen a rise of 132%. Police, security forces, and other concerned agencies are actively working against drug trafficking. He urged cross sections of society to unite and fight against the drug menace while addressing a motorcycle rally on the occasion of the International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking as part of Drug-Free India campaign. The United Nations declared this day as International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking in 1987 to prevent drug abuse and raise awareness about illegal drugs. Tripura is geographically surrounded by international borders on three sides and shares boundaries with Assam and Mizoram, which makes the state prone to a drug smuggling network. 'Tripura's children are being targeted, and the state is being used as a corridor to traffic drugs into Bangladesh. Today's slogan—'Say No to Drugs'—is extremely important. Drug traffickers are smuggling drugs for money, and our children are falling prey to it. But it is not their fault. When it comes to Tripura, they become victims. These victims are in dire need of treatment,' he said. Dr Saha added that for this purpose, the state government decided in the last budget to open drug de-addiction centers in all eight districts. About Rs 20 crore has been allocated for each center, and an additional Rs 198 crore has been sanctioned by DoNER to set up a larger drug de-addiction center in Tripura. Health Dept utilises drones in anti-mosquito operation
Parvathipuram: The Parvathipuram Manyam district has taken a significant step in malaria control using advanced technology. District Medical and Health Officer (DMHO) Dr S Bhaskar Rao said that. for the first time, drone-assisted anti-mosquito spraying was carried out in the remote tribal village of Gowduguda on Tuesday as part of the Anti-Larval Operation (ALO). The initiative was supervised by the DMHO along with programme officers. Large stagnant water bodies in and around the village were targeted during the spraying operation. A mixture of mosquito larvicide (Temephos) was loaded into drones and sprayed effectively over the breeding grounds to eliminate mosquito larvae. Speaking on the occasion, Dr Bhaskar Rao highlighted that drone technology enables large-scale mosquito control measures in a shorter time. He stated that this initiative was undertaken in response to earlier instructions from the District Collector. He further explained that while drone spraying would be taken up at larger mosquito breeding sites, traditional ALO and dry day methods will continue for smaller water accumulations. Dr. Bhaskar Rao also interacted with local villagers to collect health-related information and instructed medical staff to ensure the availability of fever diagnostic tests and medicines in the region. He later inspected the tribal welfare residential school in Tikkabai, reviewing students' health status and the condition of the hostel. He checked whether spraying had been properly carried out in the rooms and instructed staff to maintain an accurate Sick Register for students. District Malaria Officer Y Mani, Dr T Jaganmohan Rao, DLATO Dr Vinod, Medical Officer Dr Abhilash, Malaria Consultant Ramachandra and other medical staff have attended the programme.
