UK hails Morocco as «trusted partner» at London Capital Markets event
During the 8th edition of the Morocco Capital Markets Days, held in London's financial district, the United Kingdom reiterated its commitment to strengthening its partnership with Morocco. Through the words of Ben Coleman, Prime Minister Keir Starmer's Trade Envoy, the British government described Morocco as a «trusted partner» and emphasized the strategic importance of this bilateral relationship.
«The government is fully committed to deepening the relations between our two countries», stated Coleman, applauding the expanding economic cooperation. He recalled that the two kingdoms share over 800 years of history, with the first trade agreement signed in 1721, and stressed the need to build on this heritage to seize future opportunities.
Before an audience of diplomats, officials, and finance professionals, the Trade Envoy praised the economic complementarities between the two countries and the prospects offered by events like the Morocco Capital Markets Days. This forum brings together more than 34 listed Moroccan companies and facilitates around 160 B2B meetings with international investors, aiming to strengthen exchanges between the financial markets of the two countries.
Coleman also highlighted Morocco's progress, particularly in terms of infrastructure, citing the extension of the high-speed rail line in preparation for the 2030 World Cup. He expressed the UK's desire to participate in this development dynamic while underscoring Morocco's key role as a gateway to West Africa.
Organized with the support of the Moroccan embassy in London, this 8th edition is part of the Morocco Business Weeks, aimed at showcasing the Kingdom's economic potential and enhancing bilateral cooperation.

Rabat – Morocco has officially introduced a new star rating system that will apply to all types of tourist accommodations across the country. This marks the first time that hotels, riads, guest houses, and other lodging options will be classified under a single, internationally recognized star system. From now on, all types of tourist accommodations will be rated using a star system similar to hotels. This new star rating is easier to understand and follows international standards, which would help tourists choose their stay more confidently, said the ministry in a press release. 'Every type of accommodation, whether Hotels, riads, Hotel clubs, Kasbahs…will now use the same star rating system that travelers recognize worldwide,' said the Minister of Tourism Fatim-Zahra Ammor. The evaluation will focus on buildings and facilities, as well as on the quality of service throughout the guest's stay. To ensure this, mystery visitors will regularly inspect the accommodations using a detailed checklist of up to 800 criteria, developed with the World Tourism Organization. Ratings will no longer be permanent. New establishments will be reviewed every 7 years, and others every 5 years, to maintain high standards. Another new idea introduced is called 'Residences Immobilières Adossées' (RIA). This lets investors build private villas connected to 5-star or luxury hotels, which they can sell to private owners. These villas will be managed by the hotel, offering luxury guests a more private experience. This aims to encourage more investment in Morocco's tourism sector. Ammor said this is step as a big achievement, saying it will help position Morocco as a top tourist destination. 'Morocco is world famous for its hospitality. With these new measures, we are elevating our hospitality standards to match our legendary reputation!' she wrote. Tourism businesses have 24 months to adjust to the new rules. This gives them time to improve their services, train their staff, and prepare for the new inspections. Soon, new rules will also cover other types of lodging like 'bivouacs' (camping sites), home stays, and innovative options such as container homes and cabins. Posts claimed that two administrative documents, said to be from the Council, were leaked online. Authorities have not yet confirmed whether the website was truly breached or if the documents are legitimate. The investigation is currently underway. The Algerian hacker group Jabaroot has claimed responsibility for a recent cyberattack on Morocco's Ministry of Justice, saying they accessed sensitive data related to Justice Minister Abdellatif Ouahbi, around 5,000 magistrates, and 35,000 judicial officials. This alleged attack follows earlier breaches by Jabaroot on the National Social Security Fund (CNSS) and the National Agency for Land Registry (ANCFCC), where they accessed millions of sensitive documents. Jabaroot accused Moroccan authorities of staying silent and inactive despite the hacker group's warnings and the sensitive data they exposed. The group expected the Ministry of Justice and officials to open investigations or respond publicly, but they didn't, which the hackers described as 'complicit silence' or ignoring the issue. World Bank Backs $350 Million Project to Transform Casablanca's Rail, Logistics Network
Rabat – The World Bank recently committed $350 million to finance a major overhaul of Greater Casablanca's transport and logistics system. The financing aims to enhance commuter rail operations and enhance the strength of Morocco's national railway company, the Office National des Chemins de Fer (ONCF), preparing it for long-term expansion. Morocco's urban population now reaches 60% and is expected to climb to 70% by 2050. Casablanca-Settat, the country's economic powerhouse, sits at the center of this urban boom. Cities already drive much of Morocco's economy and job creation, but residents face serious challenges like limited transport options in suburban neighborhoods, worsening traffic congestion, and pollution. It will alleviate congestion on existing lines and increase freight transportation capacity to Casablanca's port, an important commercial center. The project also aims to develop or upgrade 15 multimodal rail stations, with accessible design and development practices that promote transit riding. It aims to increase logistics activities, particularly in the Ain Sebaa industrial district, and enhance access to a new logistics park in Zenata. Ahmadou Moustapha Ndiaye, the World Bank's Maghreb and Malta Division Director, said the financing will enhance ONCF's management and operational abilities, helping the operator evolve into a publicly listed company focused on customer service. He described the project as a key step toward sustainable urban development and improved daily life for Casablanca residents. By mid-2031, the program expects to improve transport access for more than half a million people. It will raise the number of jobs reachable by rail within 45 minutes by seven percent and improve access to essential services by a similar margin. This investment marks a turning point in Casablanca's transport system, aiming to connect growing suburbs efficiently while reducing environmental impact and supporting economic growth across the region.
