Invite tenders for Polavaram–Banakacherla project by June-end, CM tells Water Resources Dept.
Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu instructed the officials of the Water Resources Department (WRD) to undertake the Polavaram–Banakacherla and other irrigation projects under the Hybrid Annuity Model (HAM) and finalise the tenders by the end of this month while securing forest and environmental clearances in a time-bound manner.
Addressing a review meeting at the Secretariat near here on Friday, Mr. Chandrababu Naidu said the officials should take steps for land acquisition for the Polavaram–Banakacherla project and that it would be undertaken by the Jal Harathi Corporation. Proposals for funding were sent to the Central government.
Out of the total project cost of ₹81,900 crore, a sum of ₹40,950 crore would be sought as an EAP (External Aided Project) loan, and ₹16,380 crore as grants from the Central government. The State would mobilise ₹16,380 crore under HAM and contribute ₹8,190 crore as equity.
POLAVARAM
The Chief Minister wanted the diaphragm wall of the Polavaram project to be completed by the end of December 2025 and noted that the overall civil works were completed to the extent of 81.70%, of which a measly progress of 3.84% was achieved under the YSR Congress Party rule.
Farming
Further, Mr. Naidu told the officials to take immediate steps to commence agricultural activities in the Krishna and Godavari deltas and called for focus on increasing the groundwater levels, filling reservoirs, and efficient utilisation of water resources. He expressed dissatisfaction over the non-functioning of physio meters and AWS (Automatic Weather Station) sensors in some parts of the State and ordered that a sum of ₹30 crore be sanctioned immediately for purchasing new equipment.
Water audit
He stressed the need for scientific water auditing, and told the officials to issue district-level bulletins containing details of groundwater levels and water availability in the river basins. He suggested that ways to bring the Sileru river water to the Krishna delta be explored, and ordered that the Veligonda Stage - I works should be completed by June, 2026.
Budameru works
At a media briefing, Water Resources Minister Nimmala Rama Naidu said the Chief Minister sought an action plan to curb the menace of flooding of Vijayawada city by the Budameru rivulet, which included widening the discharge capacity of its diversion channel from the present 17,500 cusecs to 37,500 cusecs.
Special Chief Secretaries G. Sai Prasad (Water Resources) and B. Rajasekhar (Agriculture), Chief Commissioner of Land Administration G. Jaya Lakshmi and other senior officials were present.

Chittoor MP asks officials to reach out to distressed mango farmers
Tirupati: Chittoor MP Daggumalla Prasad Rao has directed the district administrations of Chittoor and Tirupati to reach out to distressed mango farmers by enforcing the MSP of Rs.12,000 per ton for the Totapuri variety as declared by state govt. The delay in procurement of the Totapuri variety by the pulp units coupled with the abysmal drop in the prices has left the mango farmers of Chittoor and Tirupati districts in dire straits this year. While mangoes are grown in about 2.8 lakh acres in the two districts, the Totapuri variety is grown in close to 90% of the total extent. While farmers received between Rs 18,000-30,000 per ton for this variety last year, the price has dropped to Rs 4,000 a ton. Under such circumstances, farmers would be staring at huge losses if govt doesn't turn up to their rescue. "Chief minister Nara Chandrababu Naidu has directed the officials to immediately engage with the owners of the pulp units across the two districts and prompt them to initiate procurement measures as the season itself is drawing to an end", MP Prasad Rao asserted. "The State had fixed an MSP of Rs12,000 per ton for the Totapuri variety of mangoes, and collectors of Chittoor and Tirupati districts have been instructed to ensure that the farmers suffered no losses at all," he asserted. Moreover, he assured that various enforcement measures, to prevent the illegitimate sale of mangoes at the interstate borders, will also be taken up in the interest of the farmers.

Vijayawada marks Bakrid with prayers, festive spirit
1 2 Vijayawada: The city witnessed vibrant celebrations on the occasion of Eid-Al-Adha, also known as Bakrid, as thousands of Muslims gathered at major Eidgahs to offer prayers and participate in rituals with devotion and joy. Large congregations were seen at key prayer locations including the Indira Gandhi Municipal Corporation (IGMC) Stadium, Gymkhana Grounds, and Eidgahs in the old city. At the IGMC Stadium and Yanamalakuduru Eidgah alone, over 3,000 worshippers offered Namaz-e-Eid, marking the spirit of sacrifice and unity. Imams led the special prayers and delivered sermons explaining the significance of Eid-Al-Adha. "Bakrid is a festival that reminds us of the spirit of sacrifice and submission to the will of Allah. One must be willing to let go of worldly attachments and walk the spiritual path," they said. Special duas (prayers) were offered for peace, prosperity, and the well-being of the people of Andhra Pradesh and the nation. After prayers, Muslims embraced each other, exchanged greetings of "Eid Mubarak," and proceeded to perform the ritual of animal sacrifice, a key tradition of the festival. Families sacrificed goats and sheep as a symbol of devotion, sharing the meat with relatives, friends, and the poor. Voluntary organizations also stepped in to support underprivileged worshippers by distributing essentials such as rice, dal, and ghee after the prayers. Chief minister N. Chandrababu Naidu, his deputy Pawan Kalyan, HRD minister Nara Lokesh and opposition leader YS Jagan Mohan Reddy extended their heartfelt Bakrid greetings to the Muslim community, wishing for harmony and inclusive progress.
