The RIFFK, organised by the Kerala State Chalachitra Academy from August 8 to 11, returned to Kozhikode after a gap of seven years and was well received by cinephiles in north Kerala. A total of 1,200 seats were arranged across the Kairali, Sree, and Coronation theatres in the city, while delegate registration had crossed 1,500 days before the festival began. Most screenings played to packed houses, with delegates arriving well in advance to secure seats. The Open Forum sessions held in the evenings also drew good participation, and the discussions were lively.
An exhibition of photographs chronicling the cinema journey of writer M.T. Vasudevan Nair, titled Kalam Mayachitrangal, was held at the venue as part of the festival. The film Oru Vadakkan Veeragadha was screened as a tribute to MT, its producer P.V. Gangadharan, and cinematographer Ramachandrababu.
The festival featured 58 films in categories such as World Cinema, Indian Cinema Now, Malayalam Cinema Now, Festival Favourites, Female Gaze, Lifetime Achievement, and Kaleidoscope. The film Ankur was screened to honour actor Shabana Azmi, who has completed 50 years in cinema.

Mavelicus 2025 Onam celebrations to begin in Kozhikode on August 31
Tourism Minister P.A. Mohamed Riyas has said that the district-level Onam celebrations in Kozhikode, titled Mavelicus 2025, will be held on a grand scale with a variety of programmes. The celebrations will begin on August 31 with Pookkalam contests in around 100 locations across the city and the winners will receive attractive cash awards. The city will be illuminated as part of the celebrations from August 31. Cultural programmes, including dance and music, will be held at nine venues— the Kozhikode beach, LuLu Mall, Bhatt Road Beach, Tali, Kuttichira, Mananchira, Town Hall, Beypore and Sargaalaya Arts and Crafts Village at Iringal. Around 50 artistes from different parts of the country will be part of the celebrations. Celebrated musicians, including Shaktisree Gopalan, K.S. Chitra, Raftar, Jonita Gandhi, Sid Sreeram, M. Jayachandran, Sivamani, Naresh Iyer, Sithara Krishnakumar, K.S. Harishankar and Jyotsna, will perform. Music bands such as 'The Manganiyar Seduction' from Rajasthan, Almaram, Kavvali brothers, Cubo from Italy, Sanka Tribe, and Oorali will perform at various venues. Artistes such as Navya Nair, Paris Lakshmi, Shan Rahman, Job Kurien, Sreenivas, Asha Sarath, DJ Jas, Yogi Sekhar, Rima Kallingal, Abhaya Hiranmayi, Rajalakshmi, Sudeep, Vineeth Sreenivasan, Bijibal, Shahbas Aman, Jassie Gift and Kannur Sherif will also perform. While the Kozhikode Beach, LuLu Mall, Beypore and Sargaalaya will be the main venues for the cultural programmes, the Town Hall, Mananchira, Kuttichira, Tali and Bhatt Road will host art forms such as puppetry, drama, Mudiyettu and folk songs. Exhibition An exhibition-cum-sale, food festival, a book festival in honour of M.T. Vasudevan Nair, craft fair, and investor meet will also be held as part of the celebrations. The Onam celebrations will be organised jointly by the Department of Tourism, Kerala Arts and Crafts Village, and the District Tourism Promotion Council. The funds are not released to the filmmakers but kept in the KSFDC account, which produces the films,' the official CPI(M) MP K. Radhakrishnan said Gopalakrishnan's views did not go with his stature, condemnation also came from CPI(M) state secretary M.V. Govindan Master, All India Congress Committee (AICC) general secretary K.C. Venugopal, leader of the Opposition V.D. 'We cannot just give away public money.
