Faulty washing machine caused huge fire during live circus show
A huge fire at a circus during a live performance, which forced the audience to evacuate, was started by a faulty washing machine, it has been revealed.
Big Kid Circus asked all punters to leave during the show at Warout Playing Fields in Glenrothes, Fife, on Thursday, July 3, after a lorry trailer burst into flames at the attraction at around 7pm.
Emergency services raced to the scene, with firefighters battling the blaze which started away from the big top tent. Nobody was injured and everybody was evacuated safely.
Images from the scene show a huge lorry metres from the giant circus style tent engulfed with ferocious flames and clouds of thick black smoke billowing into the air. Crowds of people can be seen watching the fire take hold.
Lisa McCann, service manager at Fife Council, said the local authority had been liaising with event organisers following the horror incident.
She told the BBC: "The fire originated from a faulty washing machine in a box van which was well away from the Big Top tent and any attendees.
"It was swiftly extinguished and thankfully there were no injuries. Scottish Fire and Rescue have said the area is now safe and events are going on as planned."

Thursday night's show was the fourth of 10 shows planned in the town.
A spokesperson for the Big Kid Circus previously told the Record: "The incident that occurred during the performance of the Big Kid Circus at Glenrothes.

"Our team is currently conducting a thorough investigation to determine the cause of the fire. We are working closely with local authorities to ensure a comprehensive review."

BBC star carried on filming hit show hours after sister's death
Casualty's Charles Venn has opened up about the death of his sister. The actor plays Jacob Masters in the medical drama. He was previously introduced as a nurse but in 2023, he joined the paramedic team, searching for a change after the death of colleague Robyn Miller (Amanda Henderson). Three years ago, Charles was days away from taking his annual leave from work, but then he learnt some life-changing and heartbreaking family news. Charles, who is 52, discovered his sister had died. The beloved actor then chose to carry on with his filming commitments and was continuously supported by his friends and colleagues. 'It's about being switched on and delivering when the camera says 'action'. You might be all over the place in rehearsals, just figuring it out, mapping out what's going on and how you're going to deliver this. But when the camera rolls, you deliver because we're presenting a show for our audience', the star said recently. 'We're humans like everybody else, and then we go through what we go through. Speaking for myself, I've had challenges and still somehow being able to deliver, that's the hardest challenge.' Continuing his chat with the Mirror, Charles said that he went to work a few hours after learning of his sister's death, but was 'very subdued' while on the set of the medical drama. 'In my case, when my junior sister passed away, unexpectedly, this would have been three years ago on June 7. I was in my hotel room. I had to go to work the next day. She officially passed away around 4am. I had two days at work before I was due to go home. 'In my insane mind, I thought I could get through those two days. I really thought I would. It was still very raw in my head and my brain. I came to work, I was subdued, anybody who knows me would tell you I'm lively, full of energy, but I was very subdued, and it was still reeling, what just happened was very raw.' He added: 'I believe I got through the scene, I think I did, someone asked me 'Are you ok?' in my dressing room and of course, I wasn't. They were kind enough to let me go home. More Trending 'But it's the that same thing of despite what's going on, the challenges, being able to put that to the side and deliver a performance, play the scene, play what's required for the character to tell his story – that's the biggest challenge.' Man seen casually walking sheep on a lead at Paisley train station
ScotRail staff were stunned after a man was captured on CCTV walking his sheep down the platform at busy Paisley Gilmour Street station. A man has been captured on CCTV walking his sheep at Paisley Gilmour Street Station. ScotRail staff and passengers have been left bewildered after the station's CCTV caught the scene and shared it to social media. Posting the picture on X, a man is seen wearing a blue t-shirt and a hat casually walking down one of the platforms with the sheep on a close lead, reports Glasgow Live. In the background, a man sitting on a bench with a Tesco bag appears to be amused by the sight as the pair walked past him. The rail operator added: "Well, ewe don't see that every day at Paisley Gilmour Street! #WhatTheFlock #EweWontBelieveIt." While ScotRail doesn't specify whether or not ewe can bring sheep onto its trains, the website says pets including dogs, cats and tortoises are welcome on board as long as they are on a lead or in a travel cage. Locals flocked to the comments following the post. One said: "Seen it at Baaarhead." And another added: "He is looking a bit sheepish." In 2022, we reported shoppers were also stunned after spotting a man walking two well-trained sheep on leashes down a busy Glasgow street. The animals were seen strolling along Buchanan Street by a man wearing a cowboy hat and carrying a long walking stick. Passer-by James Ormiston said the group "got plenty of attention". He said: "While in Glasgow, I came across an unusual sight. It was a chap walking sheep; not dogs, but sheep on leashes. "He certainly got plenty of attention as walked up Buchanan street while stopping to chat with passers by. I've no idea if it was a stunt or what but it made me smile." Photos show the man, wearing a jumper, jeans, walking boots and a cowboy hat while carrying a wooden staff. Attached to the leash are two sheep; one with a red collar and the other wearing a blue collar. Join the Daily Record WhatsApp community! The trio stick out like sore thumbs heading from the bottom of Buchanan Street, where it meets Argyle Street, up past stores such as House of Fraser and Zara. One tracksuit-clad local is seen smiling in one of the images, catching the sight out of the corner of her eye. In another snap a group of three young boys are seen laughing at the animals, with one getting his phone out to catch a quick photo. One woman is seen chatting to the man while, behind the sheep, one man is positioning his phone to take a picture while another shopper wearing a pink jacket can't quite believe what she is witnessing. The man from the second photo plucks up the courage to approach the sheep in the third image, making space for another local who also takes out her phone to capture the moment. Meanwhile a woman with short, purple hair delights in the sight, pointing and laughing at the adorable, farmyard animals.

Hollyoaks confirms major Joel twist that turns everything on its head
Hollyoaks spoilers follow for Wednesday's (July 16) episode that is now available to view on Channel 4 streaming. The episode in question will air on E4 on at 7pm. There's nothing like a great big twist right before a soap wedding to throw everything on its head – and that's exactly what Hollyoaks served up during its last episode of the week. With groom-to-be / serial killer Jez Blake (Jeremy Sheffield) all set to wed John Paul McQueen (James Sutton), he confided in Robbie Roscoe (Charlie Wernham) about how happy he is in life right now. In fact, he reckons he's never been happier. Robbie, who is being held captive by the murderer at the allotment, listened intently as Jez explained the catalyst in what led to such overwhelming joy. 'None of this would have happened,' he said. 'I wouldn't be in the happiest place I've ever been in my life if I hadn't killed Tommy and blamed Joel for it'. Talk about a twist . To view this video please enable JavaScript, and consider upgrading to a web browser that supports HTML5 video The Tommy that Jez is referring to is, of course, Tommy Odenkirk (Brandon Fellows), the fake therapist who recorded his murderous confessions and used them to blackmail him. Tommy was murdered earlier this year, with Joel Dexter (Rory Douglas-Speed) – who was led by Tommy to believe that he'd killed someone – convinced that he was to blame. Joel confessed to the police and was subsequently jailed. But it turns out that Joel is actually innocent – it was Jez who committed the crime, framing Joel for it. Cleo McQueen (Nadine Mulkerrin), meanwhile, made it quite clear that she doesn't want Joel in her unborn baby's life due to the fact he's killed someone. If only she knew! More Trending And on the subject of shock twists, that wasn't the only one in store for fans during the episode in question, with Bobby Costello (Zak Sutcliffe) learning from Martha (Sherrie Hewson) that Jez was the one who murdered his social worker. With Jez believing that all his loose ends have been tied up ahead of tying the knot, the question is: will the truth of his heinous crimes come spilling out via Bobby? And will Joel get justice?
