Alix Earle Says Departure from Alex Cooper's Unwell Network Was a 'Hot Mess' Behind the Scenes
The social media star described the behind-the-scenes as a "hot mess," a nod to the title of the podcast formerly backed by Alex Cooper's Unwell Network
Earle's comments come approximately two months after she announced Hot Mess' hiatus for the "foreseeable future" on March 26What's the saying ... Art imitates life?
Alix Earle described her now-defunct Hot Mess podcast as just that — a "hot mess" — when attempting to explain to the Wall Street Journal about the production politics that led to the show's hiatus for the foreseeable future.
Hot Mess was backed by Alex Cooper's Unwell Network, the media startup that signed Earle, 24, as one of its first stars in 2023. Episodes were released for over a year, but then the relationship between her and the media company began to unravel, leading to the podcast's pause on March 26.
At the time, fans speculated a fallout between the two women, however, Cooper, 30, put the rumors to rest to clarify that the Unwell Network is not the reason behind Earle's decision to halt Hot Mess.
"Alix not being able to podcast has nothing to do Unwell," Cooper wrote on TikTok at the time. "[I don't know] why she can't/what's going on."

Cooper — who did not comment for WSJ's feature — previously clarified that "Unwell gave [Alix] everything back" and that Earle "owns her IP," noting she "learned from the best" before tagging Barstool Sports founder Dave Portnoy.
That being said, Earle admitted to the WSJ that it has been a process to get everything back in her hands.
"That was, behind the scenes, a little bit of a hot mess," Earle said in her digital cover story.

Elsewhere in the interview, Earle offered her fans a glimmer of hope about her podcast's return, noting that they have "plans to bring things back" in an elevated way. "It might look a little different, but I'm excited to see what we do with it," she added.
In the meantime, Earle has been uploading vlog-style videos to her YouTube channel. She gives her viewers an in-depth look at her life alongside her siblings, parents, friends and NFL boyfriend, Braxton Berrios. She also recently appeared on another SI Swim issue this year, which she celebrated at the 2025 Sports Illustrated Swimsuit launch party red carpet on May 15, at The Hard Rock Hotel in New York City.

Later this year, Earle is set to be a contestant on the upcoming season 34 of Dancing with the Stars. She officially announced the news on Good Morning America on Thursday morning, becoming the second celebrity casting revealed after Robert Irwin.
The social media star attended DWTS last November when the show taped its milestone 500th episode. In a GRWM video posted prior, she told her 7.5 million TikTok followers that she was "so excited" to be in the audience because she is "such a fan of the show."

Restaurant owner speaks out after car smashes through window where food creators were filming
A Texas restaurant is open for business again after a vehicle came crashing through the eatery over the weekend. The incident occurred at around 4 p.m. on Saturday at Cuvee Culinary Creations in Houston, according to restaurant owner Ivory Watkins. Two content creators who were dining at the establishment narrowly missed being struck by the vehicle, unintentionally capturing shocking footage of the moment, which the restaurant later shared on its Instagram page. Nina Santiago, known online as Nina Unrated, was filming her YouTube series, "Nina Unrated Eats," alongside fellow content creator Patrick Blackwood when a driver in an SUV plowed through the floor-to-ceiling glass windows where they were seated, knocking over the table and scattering the dishes directly in front of them, according to the video footage. In the video, fellow patrons and restaurant staff can be seen in the background looking on in shock as Santiago and Blackwood scramble out of their seats. Santiago wrote in an Instagram post afterward that she was "beyond grateful to be alive." She shared several photos from inside an ambulance and the hospital where she and Blackwood were apparently treated for their injuries, which show cuts on their faces, necks, arms and hands. Santiago and Blackwood did not immediately respond to ABC News' requests for comment. Watkins described the incident as "a freak accident," telling ABC News he had just walked away from Santiago and Blackwood's table seconds prior to the moment of impact. "I was looking at my two customers and thinking, 'What is going on? This is crazy,'" he recalled. "We never know what God has in store for us -- I'm glad they're safe." Watkins said he called 911 as soon as the incident occurred, adding that the manager of the restaurant was quick to tend to Santiago and Blackwood in the immediate aftermath and helped provide care for their cuts and scrapes until paramedics arrived on the scene. Watkins said "police came out and did their due diligence" and a report was filed by the Harris County Sheriff's Office. The owner apologized for the incident, saying, "My job at my restaurant is to keep my guests safe. I fell short." "We were glad that we didn't have any more guests [at the time of the crash]," he added. "The main thing is everybody is safe." The restaurant's windows are currently boarded up, however Watkins was able to reopen for service on Sunday. He said the establishment has new safety measures in place, including two company vehicles and two employee vehicles that are parked in the parking spaces in front of the restaurant's window seating.

Sydney Sweeney breaks silence amid American Eagle ad controversy
Sydney Sweeney is speaking out for the first time nearly a month after her American Eagle ad erupted online. In her new Wall Street Journal cover story, the 27-year-old expressed her thoughts on the chatter surrounding her controversial campaigns. When asked if she's been strategic about her campaigns, she responded, 'Yes. Very.' Though she didn't address the American Eagle ad in the new interview, she did speak on another ad she did for the soap brand Dr. Squatch. In that campaign, which was released in May, it's suggested that the product contains Sweeney's used bath water. 'I think it's important to have a finger on the pulse of what people are saying,' Sweeney told the Wall Street Journal. 'Because everything is a conversation with the audience.' 'It was mainly the girls making comments about it, which I thought was really interesting. They all loved the idea of Jacob Elordi's bathwater,' the actress added in reference to a scene in 'Saltburn' when Keoghan drank Elordi's used bathwater. Sweeney's thoughts on marketing come weeks after the actress made headlines for an American Eagle advertisement that caused online outrage. In the ad, she boasted about her 'great jeans,' which sparked accusations of promoting eugenics. Many critics likened the wordplay to 'Nazi propaganda.' In the ad, Sweeney says, 'Genes are passed down from parent to offspring, often determining traits like eye color, personality, and even hair color. My jeans are blue.' Following the backlash, American Eagle responded in a statement saying, ''Sydney Sweeney Has Great Jeans' is and always was about the jeans. Her jeans. Her story.' The statement continued: 'We'll continue to celebrate how everyone wears their AE jeans with confidence, their way. Great jeans look good on everyone.'

‘Mission Impossible: The Final Reckoning' Is Now Free on YouTube… Kind of
The eighth and possibly final Mission: Impossible film, The Final Reckoning, is now available on digital download. It comes with tons of special features and can be yours wherever you legally download movies for just $20. But, if you don't want to pay $20, it's also on YouTube for free. In a way. In what appears to be a fun, original way to promote the film's digital release, Paramount has uploaded the entire film to YouTube… in Morse code. It's right now, at the time of publication, Wednesday afternoon, August 20, 2025, still live-broadcasting the film. And considering it's a nearly three-hour movie and the entire thing is being put out there letter by letter, this is probably going to make the Avengers: Doomsday casting livestream seem like a movie trailer by the end. Here it is, Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning, in full, on YouTube, for free. In Morse code. io9 has reached out to Paramount for potential comment or clarification of the video and will update this post if or when we hear back. Our only real clue as to how or why this is happening, officially, is in the YouTube description. 'A secure livestream of Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning full movie is running now. But the Entity has infiltrated every major streaming platform, so this livestream was compromised. The full script had to be transmitted in Morse Code to avoid detection. We need your help decoding it. Your mission begins now.' Does that mean there's more to this? Some kind of fun game? It seems possible, but we don't know enough about Morse code to figure it out. The image chosen with the Morse code, though, does include a few Mission: Impossible Easter eggs. There's William Donloe's knife from the first movie, which returned in this film, as well as a rabbit's foot, the nickname given to a device in the third film that was revealed in this film to be connected to the Entity. So yeah, there's something else going on here. But, ultimately, the aim is to let people know they can get Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning at home right now. Mission accomplished.
