Rachael Blackmore and Frankie Dettori praise Irish teen jockey after debut win
Jamie Martin steered Alaskan View (10/1) to win the Majestic Hotel INH Flat Race at Tramore on Friday, with the pair finishing ahead of the Patrick Mullins-ridden odds-on favourite Highland Realm (2/5).
Grand National and Gold Cup winner Blackmore was among those to like a video of Martin's interview with Racing TV after the race on Instagram, with legendary flat jockey Dettori also liking the clip, as did Danny Mullins and Billy Loughnane.
The win was all the more special for the 17-year-old as the horse is trained by the his grandfather Willie, owned by his brother and was led up by his father Mick.
Many people took to social media to praise the secondary school student for his 'brilliant' post-race interview.
One person said: "Well done young fella. Brilliant interview and great winner for ye."
Another wrote: "What a great young man! Well done!"
Someone else commented: "He's a fantastic fella, delighted for him."
One other post read: "This young man deserves every bit of success that comes his way."
Speaking after the race, Martin said: "I'm just so grateful to have the likes of my father and grandfather to give me the opportunity. My brother didn't want me on the horse, but my Dad had his way. I thought I was dreaming for a second.
"I was talking to a few of the lads inside and I thought I was going to be making it, but there was a bit of competition for the lead and there was three horses upsides for nearly whole first round. I was tanking along so I let Alaskan View off in front. She travelled along beautifully and heard Patrick (Mullins) coming near, but lengthened out unreal.
"I thought I was going to fall off near the end but I made it! I looked across and said to Patrick 'Did I win or not?"
He added, smiling: "The plan was if I won this I'd retire with a 100 per cent strike rate but I think I'll have to keep on going!"

Newcastle make concrete 40m bid for Brentford star amid Isak saga twist
Newcastle have come back with a beefed-up offer of £40million in total for Brentford's Yoane Wissa, as they ramp up their hunt for attacking reinforcements amidst the Alexander Isak drama. Isak, 25, continues to be an ambitious target for Liverpool ahead of the September 1 transfer deadline, with the Premier League champions already having one substantial offer for the Sweden international turned down. However, following Isak's explosive public statement on Tuesday night, it remains uncertain whether he will still be a Newcastle player beyond this month. The Magpies were already on the lookout for attackers after Callum Wilson left earlier this summer, and Wissa, 28, has emerged as a prime target following his outstanding 2024-25 season for Brentford. And after seeing an initial offer of £25m rejected last week, Newcastle have now lodged an improved proposal consisting of £35m with a further £5m in add-ons as they bid to wrap up a deal for the DR Congo star. However, The Athletic report that said proposal has promptly been rejected with Newcastle still some way short of Brentford's demands. Wissa is desperate to force a move and did not feature in their Premier League opener on Saturday. He also removed all Brentford-related content from his Instagram account over the weekend as the saga involving him and the Bees turns toxic. Even if Newcastle are successful in their pursuit of Wissa, it is unlikely that his arrival alone would lead to Isak getting the move he desires. (Image:) In a statement shared via Instagram on Tuesday night, Isak broke his silence on the saga that has dominated the narrative on Tyneside this summer, insisting "promises have been broken" and "trust has been lost" between himself and the club. Newcastle, though, issued a response of their own and are prepared to stand firm on their £150m valuation of the player. They said: "We are disappointed to have been alerted to a social media post by Alexander Isak this evening. We are clear in response that Alex remains under contract and that no commitment has ever been made by a club official that Alex can leave Newcastle United this summer. "We want to keep our best players, but we also understand players have their own wishes and we listen to their views. As explained to Alex and his representatives, we must always take into consideration the best interests of Newcastle United, the team and our supporters in all decisions and we have been clear that the conditions of a sale this summer have not transpired. "We do not foresee those conditions being met. This is a proud football club with proud traditions and we strive to retain our family feel. Alex remains part of our family and will be welcomed back when he is ready to rejoin his teammates."

Stephen Bradley's Euro verdict on huge night for Shamrock Rovers and Shelbourne
Stephen Bradley would love to see Shamrock Rovers AND Shelbourne make the league phase of this season's Europa Conference League. The two teams are in play-off action tonight, with the Hoops in the Azores to face Portuguese top-flight side Santa Clara, and Shels at home to Linfield in an all-island rematch. Bradley believes progress by both clubs would represent another step in the right direction for Irish football - and would bring the dream of Champions League qualification closer. 'I'd love to see it,' he said. 'Obviously I am (in a Rovers mindset), but the bigger picture is, I'd love to see two Irish teams in the group stages. 'We were saying that the aim is to keep pushing and make the league better on and off the pitch. I think we've made great strides in that, I think we all agree. 'Everyone's played their part in that, on and off the pitch. 'But you think, where's the next step? We have all been banging on about the facilities, and that's not going to go away, we need to keep banging that drum. 'But for us on the pitch as teams, can we go and get two teams in group stages? 'When that becomes a regular thing, can we go and push and do the same in Europa League? And eventually the game has to be, can someone break the Champions League? 'It's extremely difficult. That has to be the end goal for someone. I'm not saying it happens tomorrow, but I'm saying that it's the end goal. It has to start somewhere. 'If two can do it, it's another step in the right direction for the league. And I'd love to see it. That's what we've got to be aiming for. We shouldn't shy away from that. 'We shouldn't try and hide behind anything other than wanting two or three Irish teams in group stage football. 'And I think we can get that. If not this year, next year, the year after, I think we can get that.' This is the second year in a row that two Irish teams are within 180 minutes of league phase football. Last year, St Patrick's Athletic bowed out at the play-off stage, while Rovers made it all the way to the Conference League proper, and embarked on a historic run to the last-32. 'We have a chance again to do it,' he said. 'That's progression. And you hope Shelbourne go and do the business over two legs. 'I think you can see every year, it's not just us doing it, those teams getting close every year. And the more we do that, the more we keep knocking on the door, the more the door will open. 'We're getting there and we've got to be aiming for that. Like I said, I can see it happening. If not this year, definitely in the coming years, because the standard of the league is getting better and better all the time.' Bradley's men will have their fitness and pace tested in the Estadio de Sao Miguel tonight, with temperatures expected to be in early-to-mid-20s by kick-off. But it's not only the heat that presents a challenge - the pitch is the biggest on which Rovers have ever played, with the dimensions at the limit of what FIFA will allow. According to Bradley, it's 15 yards longer than the Tallaght Stadium surface, and he said: 'It's the biggest pitch we've played on by quite some distance. 'You can see why they have the big pitch. Wing-backs are quick, obviously, two 10s are quick, so you can see why they like it. 'But I've always said that we like spaces as well. So it's, it's how you use the spaces, how you manipulate them on the day. So, yeah, it's fine. It's a big pitch, but it is what it is.' Connor Malley is out for Rovers, while Jack Byrne hasn't made the trip. If Rovers do progress, it will be the first time that an Irish side has made the group stages or league phase outside of the champions' path. 'It would obviously be something that's never been done before. We would create history,' said Bradley. 'But that's what this team has done time and time again, you know, and we've always been a team that embraces challenges and records. 'When we came in, the challenge for us was, could we go and match the four-in-a-row team in terms of leagues? We never said that aloud from day one, but that was always the challenge. And we did that. 'Then you think, can we build on that with European stuff? We've done that. 'This is another challenge. It would obviously be a big achievement considering where Santa Clara finished last year (fifth) in a really, really good league. 'So it would definitely be up there with the achievements for Irish teams. But we have to play two legs now to see what we do.'
