Doval meets Wang Yi in China, calls for countering terrorism
National Security Advisor Ajit Doval met Chinese State Councillor and Foreign minister Wang Yi in Beijing and emphasized the need to counter terrorism in all its forms and manifestations to maintain overall peace and stability in the region.
This comes a month-and-a-half after the four-day military confrontation between India and Pakistan on May 7-10, which took place due to the Pahalgam terror attack on April 22.
China had condemned the terror attack, but had also been found to supplying weapons to Pakistan in its short conflict with India.
The Ministry of External Affairs said, in a statement, 'On 23 June 2025, Ajit Doval, National Security Adviser met with Wang Yi, Member, Political Bureau of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China (CPC) and Minister of Foreign Affairs in Beijing. NSA Doval is visiting China to attend the 20th Meeting of the SCO Security Council Secretaries.'
During the meeting, the MEA said, 'both sides reviewed recent developments in India-China bilateral relations and underscored the need to promote the overall development of the India-China bilateral relations, including by fostering greater people to people ties.'
It said that 'NSA also emphasized the need to counter terrorism in all its forms and manifestations to maintain overall peace and stability in the region.'
'Views were also exchanged on other bilateral, regional and global issues of mutual interest,' it said.
It said that NSA noted that he looked forward to meeting with Wang Yi in India at a mutually convenient date for the 24th round of the Special Representative (SR) Talks.
Defence minister Rajnath Singh is also likely to travel to China for the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) meeting. Singh is likely to travel to Qingdao from June 25 to 27.
This is their first meeting with their Chinese counterparts since India and Pakistan engaged in a military confrontation in May this year.
Both the Defence minister and NSA level meetings will also witness participation from Pakistan as well. So, while Pakistan's Defence minister Khwaja Asif is expected, Pakistan's NSA and DG ISIS, Lt Gen Asim Malik is also expected to attend.
China is the host of SCO leaders' summit in Tianjin, and these meetings are preparatory for the leaders' meeting to be hosted by President Xi Jinping. This comes in the context of repairing bilateral ties that headed south after Chinese incursions in 2020 triggered a military standoff along the Line of Actual Control in eastern Ladakh.
Doval had travelled to Beijing in December last year when India and China agreed on a set of 'six consensus' including resumption of the Kailash Mansarovar Yatra, trans-border river cooperation and Nathula border trade.
This was announced by the two sides following talks in Beijing between National Security Advisor Ajit Doval and Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi who are also the Special Representatives (SRs).
That was the first meeting of the SRs since frictions emerged in the Western Sector of the India-China border areas in 2020. The two sides have monitored the implementation of the disengagement agreement of October 2024, resulting in patrolling and grazing in the border areas.
The meeting of the SRs had taken place less than two months after a border patrolling arrangement was announced on October 21 which was followed by a meeting between PM Narendra Modi and Chinese President Xi Jinping on the sidelines of the BRICS Summit in Kazan, Russia on October 23. Now, with Rajnath Singh's first visit and NSA Doval's second visit to China since the disengagement process was completed, the focus will be on the de-escalation and de-induction of troops from both sides, sources said.

EC allows mock polls after results, new SOPs for EVM memory check
NEW DELHI: In addition to the mock polls conducted before the start of voting, the Election Commission of India has implemented a new policy as part of its Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) to allow the same to check the integrity of EVMs within 45 days after the results are announced, sources said on Monday. The verification would be limited to 20 ballot units, 10 control units, and 10 VVPATs per request, and regular diagnostic checks will cost Rs 23,600 per Electronic Voting Machines (EVM) set, which would go up to Rs 47,200 if a mock poll is included, they said, adding that the amount is reduced from Rs 40,000 during the 2024 Lok Sabha polls for normal diagnostic check. However, if the EVM is found to be tampered with, the applicant candidate would get a refund, the sources said, adding that the facility would be available only to the first two losing candidates, in line with Supreme Court orders dated May 9 this year. The new protocol will first be applied to over 100 C&V applications from the fiercely contested 2024 Maharashtra assembly elections, filed mainly by INDIA bloc candidates. The new SOPs formulated have been circulated to all Chief Electoral Officers (CEOs), outlining a step-by-step process, the sources said. 'Once the status of pending election petitions is confirmed and necessary High Court permissions are obtained, CEOs will share a summary with EVM manufacturers ECIL and BEL. The manufacturers must respond within two weeks with a district-wise C&V schedule, names of authorised engineers, and a designated district in-charge engineer, who will sign off on the certificate of authenticity of the EVM's burnt memory and microcontroller,' a source said. If any unit fails the C&V process, a detailed report from the engineer and the district election officer must be submitted to the Commission, and the faulty unit stored separately, they said. In Meeting With Chinese Foreign Minister, Ajit Doval Calls For Countering Terrorism
In an oblique reference to Pakistan's support to cross-border terrorist activities, NSA Ajit Doval on Monday emphasised the need to counter terrorism in all its forms for regional peace and stability during a meeting with Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi in Beijing. Mr Doval's call for countering terrorism comes nearly a month-and-a-half after India carried out precision strikes on nine terror infrastructures in Pakistani territories early on May 7 in response to the horrific Pahalgam terrorist attack that killed 26 civilians. NSA Doval is visiting China to attend a conclave of top national security officials of the member nations of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO), an influential regional grouping focused on security related issues. Mr Doval and Mr Wang also deliberated on various aspects of India-China relations amid efforts by the two sides to rebuild the ties that came under severe strain following the eastern Ladakh border standoff. Both sides reviewed recent developments in India-China relations and underscored the need to promote the overall development of the ties, including by fostering greater people to people engagement, the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) said "The NSA also emphasized the need to counter terrorism in all its forms and manifestations to maintain overall peace and stability in the region," it said. "Only when the dragon and elephant dance together can there be a win-win outcome. China and India should properly handle sensitive issues and maintain peace and tranquillity in the border regions," Xu said in a social media post. "Doval said that India is willing to strengthen collaboration with China in multilateral fields and fully supports China's role as the rotating presidency of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization in hosting a successful summit," the envoy said. "As two major Asian nations, India and China can make even greater contributions to the international community," he added. The MEA said Mr Doval and Wang also exchanged views on other bilateral, regional and global issues of mutual interest. "The NSA noted that he looked forward to meeting with Wang Yi in India at a mutually convenient date for the 24th round of the Special Representative (SR) talks," it said. China is hosting the SCO conclave in its capacity as the current chair of the grouping. The military standoff in eastern Ladakh began in May 2020 and a deadly clash at the Galwan Valley in June that year resulted in a severe downturn in ties between the two neighbours. The face-off effectively ended following completion of the disengagement process from the last two friction points of Demchok and Depsang under an agreement finalised on October 21 last year. In December, NSA Doval visited Beijing and held talks with Wang under the framework of Special Representatives (SR) dialogue on the boundary dispute. The decision to revive the SR mechanism and other such dialogue formats was taken at a meeting between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chinese President Xi Jinping in Kazan on October 23. The Modi-Xi meeting came two days after India and China firmed up a disengagement pact for Depsang and Demchok.
