‘Bob's Burgers' Celebrates 300 Episodes and Teases New Holiday Episodes
The Bob's Burgers panel is always a popular draw at San Diego Comic-Con, and programmers answered the call of the Belcher faithful by moving it to Ballroom 20—not quite the cavernous Hall H, but a larger venue than previous years. Season 15 has just four episodes left to air, but fans won't have long to wait until season 16: it hits Fox in September. Season 16 contains a big milestone with Bob's Burgers' 300th episode. 'There's something absolutely bizarre about doing 300 episodes of television on the same show across 15 years,' creator and executive producer Loren Bouchard said. 'I feel like we get to sit with these characters. We kind of have this strange, you know, meditation where we have to wake up every day and think about these characters. And even though [it's] characters from a comedy, it has an effect. You know, you start to really sit with—for me, anyway—this idea that the restaurant could fail, and we're never gonna resolve that,' he said. 'We're gonna sit with this idea for 15 years, to this point 300 episodes, and we don't know whether they're going to make it or not. I just really appreciate that, because it makes me more comfortable with the idea that we still have to be silly. We still have our small successes; no matter what, we have to figure out what we want to enjoy about each other and sort of take our little wins when we can.' The audience got to see a clip from the season 16 premiere—a flashback to the restaurant's earliest days, when Bob and Linda aren't yet parents (but are about to be)—as well as a glimpse of a still-in-production Christmas episode, which will see the family visit a festive village, where Louise convinces Bob to decorate cookies for Santa. Also, more good news for fans of Bob's Burgers' legendary holiday episodes: season 16 will also feature a Halloween episode. 'You're going to enjoy it. Teddy takes a job in the store next door,' Bouchard said, describing the latest tenant of the ever-changing retail space next to the burger joint as an 'occult' shop—'not a Halloween shop like costumes, but really creepy.' (No word on whether the kids will bust out a new array of pun-tastic costumes, but Bouchard named Louise's 'Dragon With a Girl Tattoo' as one of his biggest favorites from Halloween episodes past.) SDCC also saw an in-production clip featuring Linda's sister, Gail (voiced by Megan Mullally)—giving Bob a terrifying but surprisingly effective massage. Gail will also feature in an upcoming storyline where she plans to get married as part of an art project, to Linda's understandable chagrin. Along with Bouchard, the panel featured supervising director Bernard Derriman as well as cast members H. Jon Benjamin (Bob), John Roberts (Linda), Kristen Schaal (Louise), Eugene Mirman (Gene), Dan Mintz (Tina), and Larry Murphy (Teddy). Bob's Burgers season 15 runs through August 14—then season 16 kicks off September 28. The show has been renewed through season 19. Want more io9 news?
