Diogo Jota's ex-teammate Raul Jimenez pays emotional tribute to late friend in Mexico Gold Cup win over USMNT
Jota, who helped Liverpool win the Premier League title last season, and his younger brother Andre Silva were tragically killed in a car accident close to the Portuguese border in northwestern Spain early Thursday morning.
The pair were traveling in Diogo's Lamborghini when one of its tires blew out and sent the supercar careering off the road, before it burst into flames. The emergency services were called but the brothers could not be saved.
Tributes have poured in for Jota and his brother over the past four days, with several players dedicating goals to the pair since their fatal accident.
And after getting on the scoresheet in the Concacaf Gold Cup final, Jimenez made sure to dedicate the goal to his friend and ex-teammate.
The Premier League star, who played alongside Jota for two years at Wolves before the latter's move to Liverpool in 2020, marked his equalizing strike by sitting on the turf and recreating Diogo's trademark gaming celebration alongside a special No 20 jersey with his name on.

Jota memorably pulled out that celebration after a dramatic 94th-minute winner for Liverpool against Tottenham back in 2023.
Jimenez drew Mexico level in the 27th minute on Sunday night after Chris Richards had fired the USMNT ahead after just four minutes.
In the end Edson Alvarez proved the hero for El Tri at NRG Stadium in Texas when he popped up with the game-winning goal 13 minutes from time.
The soccer world has been left devastated by the loss of Jota and his younger brother, with tributes pouring in since the heartbreaking news came to light on Thursday.
Fellow Portugal international Pedro Neto displayed a shirt in tributes to Diogo and Andre before Chelsea's 2-1 win over Palmeiras at the Club World Cup this week, while other international colleagues Joao Cancelo and Ruben Neves welled up with tears before Al-Hilal's 2-1 defeat by Fluminense.
Nashville SC midfielder Hany Mukhtar also paid his respects by pulling out the gaming celebration after his dramatic 101st-minute winner against Philadelphia Union on Saturday night.
Jota had just married Rute Cardoso, the 28-year-old mother of his three children and partner since the age of 16, a fortnight before his tragic passing.
The Premier League winner had described himself as the luckiest man in the world to be her husband, sharing moving footage of their wedding day in his final Instagram post on Wednesday afternoon.

Her husband shared a full name with Jota's late sibling, André Silva, 26. Mourning continues after the passing of Liverpool forward Jota and his brother, who were laid to rest on Saturday in their hometown of Gondomar, near the Portuguese city of Porto. The service and public wake were attended by many of the Reds star's former team-mates and peers, with constant flows of people paying their respects on Friday and Saturday. In attendance to bid farewell to the brothers was RB Leipzig and Portugal star André Silva. The 29-year-old shared a name with Jota's brother, and this initially caused confusion among some, who believed the Bundesliga ace had been a victim of the tragic accident. Silva's wife, Maria Rodrigues, took to social media on Sunday, revealing she had received messages that expressed concern for her husband and sadly explained the situation. "I have been receiving many kind and concerned messages lately," penned Rodrigues via her Instagram story. "There seems to have been some confusion regarding the recent devastating news. "I want to clarify that this information is not about my husband, André Silva. Our hearts go out to the families affected by this tragedy. We are thinking of them at this incredibly difficult time." Silva, who finished his youth career with Porto, was born in Baguim do Monte, a local parish in Gondomar, where Jota and his brother called home. He soon broke into the Portuguese giant's first team and sealed a £35million transfer to AC Milan in 2017. Loan spells with Sevilla and Frankfurt followed before he joined the German side permanently in 2020. A year later, Silva signed for his current club, Leipzig, and has endured loan moves to Real Sociedad and Werder Bremen in recent campaigns. The 29-year-old was present in Gondomar on Friday alongside his wife, Rodrigues, to pay his respects to his former team-mate and lay some flowers at the Chapel of the Resurrection. Silva, who also played with Jota at club level for Porto 29 times, combining for seven goals, issued a statement on social media after news of the car accident broke. "I cannot believe it," Silva began. "We take every day for granted, but life can be brutally fragile. There are no words that will ever do. This doesn't make sense. Only pain and silence weigh.
