Unilever's quarterly sales growth beats estimates
(Reuters) -Dove soap maker Unilever beat market expectations for second-quarter underlying sales growth on Thursday, driven by higher pricing. The consumer goods company reported underlying sales growth of 3.8% for the three months ended June 30, compared with 3.6% expected by analysts in a company-compiled poll. Unilever's ice cream business, called The Magnum Ice Cream Company, is on track for demerger in mid-November, the company said. The company, which also owns brands such as Vaseline and Liquid I.V., kept its 2025 forecast unchanged. Unilever reported an underlying operating profit of 5.8 billion euros for the half-year period, slightly ahead of market expectations of 5.7 billion euros. Over 50 safety lapses found at Air India by the country's aviation watchdog
India's aviation watchdog found 51 safety-related faults at Air India during its annual audit. A total of 263 safety-related lapses have been identified across the country's airlines, the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) said on Wednesday. Twenty three were found at the largest carrier IndiGo, while 51 were found at the second largest Air India, the DGCA said, cautioning that higher number of findings are normal for airlines with bigger fleet sizes. Lack of adequate training for some pilots, the use of unapproved simulators and a poor rostering system, were some of the failures highlighted at Air India. The audit was conducted as part of International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO) requirements and was not related to the deadly Boeing 787 crash last month that killed 260 people in Ahmedabad. A preliminary report from the Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau (AAIB) released earlier this month into the crash suggested the fuel switches were turned off just after takeoff, starving the engines of fuel. The plane is believed to have lost thrust and crashed around 30 seconds later, killing 241 on board and another 19 people on the ground. 52 Britons died in the crash. It remains unclear why the switches were moved. In the cockpit, one pilot was heard asking the other, 'Why did you do the cut-off?' The other responded that he had not. The report does not identify which pilot said what. Families of the victims have spoken of their anguish following the release of the preliminary report, as they demanded 'action should be taken against those responsible for the incident'. Ayushi Christian, whose husband Lawrence Christian died in the crash, told the BBC: 'It has been one month since the crash, but no action has been taken by the government so far.' The DGCA said it had also found 14 deficiencies at SpiceJet and 17 at Vistara, which is now part of Air India. The regulator found 25 lapses at Air India Express, Air India's budget carrier. Akasa Air is yet to be audited. It did not detail what kind of lapses were found but divided the list of breaches into "Level I", which are significant breaches, and "Level II", which are other non-compliances. In total, 19 "Level I" breaches were found at Indian airlines, the DGCA said.

Ferrari renews team principal Fred Vasseur's contract despite a difficult F1 season
BUDAPEST, Hungary (AP) — Ferrari handed team principal Fred Vasseur a new contract on Thursday in a sign of 'trust in Fred's leadership' following speculation about his future, with the Italian team yet to win a Formula 1 race in 2025. In an announcement ahead of the Hungarian Grand Prix, Ferrari said the new deal was a 'multiple-year contract,' without giving further details. Lewis Hamilton gave Vasseur his backing last month after reports in Italian media suggested his job could be in question. Ferrari last won a race in October and neither Hamilton nor Charles Leclerc has consistently been able to challenge the leading McLaren drivers. 'Today we want to recognize what has been built and commit to what still needs to be achieved,' Ferrari chief executive Benedetto Vigna said in a statement. 'It reflects our trust in Fred's leadership — a trust rooted in shared ambition, mutual expectations and clear responsibility. We move forward with determination and focus, united in our pursuit of the level of performance Ferrari has to aim for.' Vasseur joined Ferrari as team principal at the start of 2023. He was Hamilton's team boss in junior series in the mid-2000s and played a role in convincing the seven-time champion to leave Mercedes for Ferrari for 2025 in a move which shook up F1. Vasseur also previously worked with Renault and Sauber in F1. Hamilton, who hasn't finished on the podium in a Grand Prix race since joining the Italian team, has been holding meetings with senior executives to push for improvements and a voice in developing the team's car for 2026. ___ AP auto racing:
