TG eyes more data centres with advanced infra for quality power, Data City
Provision of advanced infrastructure to support the power requirements, setting up of a Data City as well as focus on harnessing renewable energy are measures Telangana government has decided to focus on amid the emergence of Hyderabad as a preferred destination for firms setting up data centres. The proposed Data City will be established near Hyderabad to facilitate world-class infrastructure and with an eye on future needs of data centres, highly placed sources said. Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy is spearheading the State's drive to attract more data centre investments, especially AI-ready data centres. The government has been actively engaging in dialogue with major global corporations in pursuit of investment opportunities. Since January 2024, Telangana has attracted data centre projects entailing more than ₹1.42 lakh crore investments with total capacity addition of 5,189 MW. The list does not include projects whose investments are yet to be disclosed, sources said. Among the projects announced is the high-performance AI compute facility with a cumulative capacity of 20 petaflops or more, the Centre for Development of Advanced Computing (CDAC) announced at the Telangana Global AI Summit 2024. The government has already allotted 10 acres in the upcoming Artificial Intelligence (AI) City. At the World Economic Forum (WEF) 2024 in Davos, Iron Mountain (previously Web Werks) announced ₹5,200 crore investment on 10 MW networking-heavy data centre in Hyderabad. The facility is set to start operations soon. After commissioning the 10 MW facility, the company plans to build a 100 MW hyperscale data centre in the Southwest part of the city, sources said. American tech major Amazon Web Services (AWS) is investing in expansion of data centres in Hyderabad and committed ₹60,000 crore investment to add 1,200 MW capacity over the next few years. Yotta Technologies is expected to set up a 50 MW AI-GPU cloud data center with a total of 25,000 GPUs at Bharat Future City. During WEF 2025, Blackstone and CtrlS Datacenters were among the companies that signed agreements with the State government for establishing data centres. Similarly, investment proposals of other companies, including ST Telemedia, Tillman Global Holdings, Aurum Equity Partners, Sify Technologies and NTT Data are making steady progress, sources said.

Andhra Chambers urges Centre to address US tariffs impact on exports
Last Updated: Amaravati, Aug 21 (PTI) The Andhra Pradesh Chambers of Commerce and Industry Federation on Thursday urged the Centre to mitigate the impact of the proposed 50 per cent US tariffs on exporters. The Andhra Pradesh Chambers held a meeting with its 78 affiliated associations in Vijayawada to discuss sectoral challenges and strategies for diversifying exports beyond the American market. 'The impact of the proposed 50 per cent US tariffs on exports would affect many sectors in Andhra Pradesh. We request the Central government to take measures to diversify exports to other countries to reduce the dependence on the US," said Andhra Pradesh Chambers president P Bhaskara Rao, while addressing a press conference. Rao said that the tariff proposal would affect many sectors in Andhra Pradesh, especially aqua culture, textiles, agri products and auto components. He further requested the union government to restore export subsidies, provide easier access to working capital, reduce Goods and Service Tax (GST) rates and cut import duties to make Indian products competitive. Rao said that state-level incentives pending for five to six years must be released by September to give a push to Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) struggling with rising fuel and power costs. A detailed representation to both the Central and State governments was submitted to improve the EoDB by bringing reforms in the age-old fire, pollution, and building norms, he said. Further, he requested extending the validity of No Objection Certificates (NOCs) from one to five years with self-certification option. The trade body's general secretary B Raja Sekhar said that India should reduce dependence on US markets and revive schemes like Marketing Development Assistance (MDA), Market Access Initiative (MAI), and Interest Equalisation Scheme (IES) to support exporters. Implementing two-slab GST structure would simplify compliance for businesses and provide relief to sectors hit by tariffs, he added. RBI seeks public feedback on 4 pc inflation targeting regime
Agency: Last Updated: Mumbai, Aug 21 (PTI) The Reserve Bank on Thursday sought public feedback on whether its monetary policy should continue to target 4 per cent retail inflation or set new parameters to boost growth while maintaining stability in the fast-growing large economy. While emphasising that the flexible inflation targeting (FIT) regime has been successful, the central bank is also looking at whether core inflation would be the best guide for monetary policy. Following a Monetary Policy Framework Agreement with the government in 2015, India formally adopted the inflation targeting framework in 2016. The government has mandated the RBI to maintain a Consumer Price Index (CPI) inflation target of 4 per cent with a tolerance band of +/- 2 per cent during 2016-21. The same parameters were retained for the subsequent five years (April 1, 2021, to March 31, 2026). The RBI Governor-headed six-member Monetary Policy Committee (MPC) determines the policy rate required to achieve the inflation target. Against the backdrop of the next review of the target to be effective from April 1, 2026, and the significant changes in the global and domestic economic environment, the RBI said it has undertaken a review of the nature and format of the inflation target. Towards this, it has come out with a discussion paper seeking feedback from stakeholders on four questions: Whether headline inflation or core inflation would best guide the conduct of monetary policy, given evolving relative dynamics of food and core inflation and the continuing high weight of food in the CPI basket? Whether the 4 per cent inflation target continues to remain optimal for balancing growth with stability in a fast-growing, large emerging economy like India? Should the tolerance band around the target be revised in any way, including whether the tolerance band be narrowed, widened or fully done away with? Should the target inflation level be removed, and only a range be maintained within the overall ambit of maintaining flexibility without undermining credibility? The discussion paper said the inflation performance over the nine years of FIT witnessed a hump-shaped performance, with the first three years and the last three years remaining aligned to the target. The middle three years showed an inclination towards the upper tolerance band, confronted with a once-in-a-century pandemic followed by the Russia-Ukraine conflict that drove up the inflation trend worldwide during this period. 'The experience of the FIT framework, introduced in the year 2016 and first reviewed in 2021, has broadly performed well. From the inception of FIT till about the end of 2019, inflation was low and stable, averaging around 4 per cent," it said. It further said the conduct of monetary policy frameworks needs both policy certainty and credibility. This has become particularly important during the current environment of heightened uncertainty. It is, therefore, important that the basic tenets of the framework that have been tested and judged to be favourable are continued. The adaptability and flexibility already inbuilt into the extant framework should be leveraged to nudge the economy towards further improved macroeconomic outcomes. Inflation targeting (IT) turns 35 this year. With New Zealand being the first country to implement IT in 1990, it has become the most widely adopted monetary policy framework globally. The paper said the inflation levels have seen a distinct decline with the average since the adoption of FIT at 4.9 per cent, vis-a-vis an average of 6.8 per cent over the pre-FIT period in the current series. 'As we undertake this review, we intend to hear from all stakeholders and collate a pool of ideas before deciding on the final recommendations," the RBI said while seeking comments/feedback by September 18, 2025.
