Use Of Laser Beams, Drones Banned in Areas Around IGI Airport, Check Details
'Use of laser beams by individuals, organisers or establishments during events is strictly prohibited in the jurisdiction of Palam Sub-Division,' the officer said.
Delhi Police has restricted the use of laser beams and drones in areas around the Indira Gandhi International (IGI) Airport for 60 days till September 23 to ensure passengers' safety and proper aviation operations.
According to two separate orders issued by Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) of Palam (IGI Airport), Vir Krishan Pal Singh, the directive will be implemented from July 26 to September 23 as laser lights commonly used during weddings and parties at farmhouses, banquets and hotels in the area have caused visual distraction to pilots, especially during landing.
'A number of farmhouses, banquets, hotels and restaurants are coming up around IGI Airport, where bright lights and laser beams used during events cause general nuisance and distract pilots' vision," the ACP said in the order.
Singh said that such distractions pose a serious risk to the safety of aircraft and passengers.
'Use of laser beams by individuals, organisers or establishments during events is strictly prohibited in the jurisdiction of Palam Sub-Division," the officer said.
In a separate order, the ACP banned unmanned aircraft systems, including drones, paragliders, and aero-models, in and around the area during the same period, citing intelligence inputs about possible terror attacks using such aerial platforms.
'The use of drones and aero-models by members of the public is hazardous to aviation safety and can pose a serious terrorist threat," the order said.
Those found violating either order will face legal action under Section 223(a) of the BNS, which penalises disobedience of a lawful public order with up to six months' jail or a fine of up to Rs 2,500 or both.
In 2022, the Ministry of Civil Aviation proposed amendments to the Aircraft Rules, 1937, recommending police action against individuals found flashing laser lights at aircraft.
The draft also suggested that if such a person is identified, a notice should be served first by a central government officer.
In one such incident in August 2017, a pilot of an IndiGo flight from Mumbai to Delhi complained of being distracted by a green laser light while approaching the runway, prompting calls for stricter enforcement. PTI SGV SHB SGV RT RT

BENGALURU: Two people were arrested in connection with the kidnapping and murder of a school boy, following an exchange of fire with the police on Friday. When they inquired with his tuition teacher, they were told that the boy had left at 7.30 pm. His son's bicycle was found parked near a park in Arekere. However, on Thursday, the boy's burnt body was found on the outskirts of the city, off Bannerghatta Road in a deserted area.

'Operation Milap': 142 missing children, adults reunited by South-West Delhi Police in July
New Delhi: In a remarkable display of dedication and compassion, the South-West District Police successfully traced and reunited 142 missing individuals, including 61 children and 81 adults, with their families during the month of July under 'Operation Milap'. Between July 1 and July 31, the police launched intensive search operations immediately upon receiving reports of missing or kidnapped individuals. Their efforts included local enquiries, CCTV surveillance, and outreach at bus stands, railway stations, and public transport hubs. Information was also gathered from drivers, conductors, vendors, and local informers. Records of nearby police stations and hospitals were thoroughly examined to aid the search. According to Delhi Police, from January 1 to July 31, 2025, the district police have reunited a total of 801 missing people, comprising 258 children and 543 adults. Key police stations played a pivotal role during July as Police Station (PS) Kapashera traced 8 children and 15 adults; Anti-Human Trafficking Unit (AHTU) teams recovered 22 children and 1 adult; PS Sagarpur reunited 9 children and 9 adults; and PS Palam Village traced 3 children and 15 adults. PS Vasant Kunj South and PS Delhi Cantt each reunited 10 and 9 missing people respectively, alongside missing children. Other stations, including Kishangarh, Vasant Kunj North, R.K. Puram, S.J. Enclave, Vasant Vihar, Sarojini Nagar, and South Campus, contributed significantly, collectively reuniting dozens more individuals with their families. 'Under 'Operation Milap', South-West District Police reaffirmed their commitment to public service by ensuring the safe return of 142 missing individuals to their homes. Rs 107-crore GST fraud case: Punjab and Haryana HC grants bail to accused, slams prosecution for focusing only on arrests
The Punjab and Haryana High Court on July 28 granted regular bail to Manish Kumar, accused of defrauding the State Exchequer of Rs 107 crore in a 2024 case involving fraudulent Input Tax Credit (ITC) claims through fake GST invoices and shell firms. In a sharp indictment of the prosecuting agencies under the Goods and Services Tax (GST) regime, Justice Harpreet Singh Brar questioned their priorities, noting that despite repeated arrests, trials were rarely concluded. Manish Kumar and his brother Amit Kumar Goyal were accused of creating 27 fake firms and generating invoices amounting to Rs 700 crore, leading to fraudulent ITC claims worth Rs 107 crore. The court noted that the final investigation report had already been filed against the petitioners, and the case had been pending pre-charge evidence for the past six months. While opposing the bail, the prosecution argued that the investigation was still ongoing against another co-accused and expressed apprehensions about the possibility of destroying evidence and influencing witnesses. The court rejected these concerns and observed that the evidence was documentary and electronic, and all prosecution witnesses were officials of the Directorate General of GST Intelligence (DGGI). Justice Brar said, 'It remains unclear as to why the arrest process has not been initiated against the co-accused qua whom an investigation is pending… While the possibility of evidence tampering has been flagged, the entire case is based on documentary and electronic evidence, which are already available… and all of the prosecution witnesses are officials of the respondent.' Calling it unreasonable to keep the petitioners in custody merely because another accused was under investigation, the court noted that 'nothing has been brought to the fore to suggest that the release of the petitioners would derail the investigation; therefore, this cannot be used as a reason to keep them under custody indefinitely.' In an earlier hearing, the court had directed top tax officers across Punjab, Haryana, and the Union Territory of Chandigarh to furnish data on Goods and Services Tax (GST)-related complaints, arrests, and trials. The analysis of the submitted data revealed a disturbing trend. 'Since [GST's] commencement, only a solitary conviction has been made in the States of Punjab, Haryana and Union Territory of Chandigarh put together… arrests are in fact made without prior notice, while in cases where notice is served, arrests are not being made,' the court observed. Justice Brar flagged systemic issues in how the Central Goods and Services Tax (CGST) law is being implemented. 'Of late, it has been observed that the involvement of the criminal justice system in cases pertaining to the CGST Act seemingly begins at the stage of arrest and ends when bail is secured… The slow-paced trials and departure from procedure under Sections 73 and 74 are symptomatic of a systemic problem,' the court observed. He said that allowing such practices to go unchecked would 'raise serious doubts about the efficacy of investigation' and ultimately erode public confidence in the justice system.
