Sabari Bhavan to preserve tribal pride, says CM Mohan Majhi
Inaugurating the Sabari Sanskrutika Bhavan, a centre for short-term stay and cultural activities for the people of Koraput, Malkangiri, Nabarangpur and Rayagada districts, at IRC Village here, the chief minister said the government has prepared a vision document which envisages Viksit Odisha through all-round development, holistic growth and tribal empowerment.
Exuding confidence that state's 24 per cent tribal population will play a crucial role in the onward journey, Majhi said 36 specific programmes have been outlined under the initiative '36 for 36' to achieve the goal by 2036 when Odisha will celebrate its 100 years of formation.
'The state government, having completed a successful year, is continuing its efforts with renewed vigour and commitment. In the coming days, the development journey will gain further momentum,' he added.
Majhi said the government is committed to ensure balanced development of the state. The Sabari Bhavan will symbolise the pride of the people of Odisha and serve as an inspiration for the new generation, he said.

Snake rescued from grievance cell
Bhubaneswar: A snake was rescued from the premises where Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi was hearing grievances from the public on Monday morning, an official said. The reptile was found in the waiting hall for persons with disabilities (PwDs) minutes before the Chief Minister's visit to the grievance cell, he added. 'The snake fell from the roof and took refuge underneath a backpack,' the official said. On spotting it inside the hall, panic spread among those present. Authorities then contacted the Snake Helpline for assistance. 'After receiving a call at 9.25 am, I rushed to the CM's grievance cell and rescued a small snake,' said Subhendu Mallik, general secretary of Snake Helpline, an organisation working for the rescue and conservation of snakes. It was a one-foot yellowish snake, he said, adding that it would be released in the wild. Around 2,000 people, including women, children, PwDs and journalists, were present on the premises when the snake was rescued. Majhi held the 14th session of public grievance hearings, with several ministers and senior officials participating in the programme.

Four cities will be developed as digital hubs, says CM
Bhubaneswar: Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi said his government is making efforts to develop four more cities, apart from Bhubaneswar, as digital hubs and enabling the youths to equip themselves with AI, cybersecurity and several other emerging technologies. He also said the government is keen to bring development of the IT and electronics sector to Cuttack, Rourkela, Sambalpur and Berhampur. The State government has signed four MoUs for research, running the O-chip programme, strengthening technical collaboration and startup networks in the State, an official said. An MoU was signed between the Department of Electronics & IT and IIT Bhubaneswar for research, pilot projects, policy inputs and innovation ecosystem development during a two-day programme here, he said. Another agreement was inked between the State-owned Odisha Computer Application Centre and Semiconductor Fabless Accelerator Lab (SFAL) to run the O-chip programme, he said. The programme aims at creating an ecosystem for semiconductor design and manufacturing and generating high-end jobs. The third MoU was inked between Electronics and Computer Software Export Promotion Council in Odisha and Hitachi MGRM for technical collaboration, and the fourth one was between TIE Bhubaneswar and incubation centres to strengthen startup networks. Addressing the concluding session of the TiEcon Bhubaneswar 2025 on Sunday, Majhi said the State is 'enabling its youths to be equipped with future-ready capabilities in AI, cybersecurity and emerging technologies'. 'Our effort is to take this growth beyond Bhubaneswar to cities like Cuttack, Rourkela, Sambalpur and Berhampur, which are being developed as the next wave of digital hubs,' the Chief Minister said. He said the State's vision is not just about GDP growth, but 'creating jobs, empowering youths, and advancing social justice'. He assured the investors and entrepreneurs of all support from the State government. 'Once you are here with us, you will feel that Odisha is your second home. You will find a sense of belongingness here. Together, we can make Odisha the entrepreneurial capital of eastern India, and truly realise the vision of Purvodaya — the rise of the East,' Majhi said, while addressing the session. The event brought together entrepreneurs, investors, policymakers and innovators from across India and overseas to exchange ideas, forge collaborations and explore opportunities in emerging sectors.

Don't talk of suicide, CM tells elderly
Bhubaneswar: Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi on Monday expressed concern over the mindset of some people and urged an elderly man not to talk of 'suicide,' assuring him to remain patient until his grievances were addressed. Majhi made the remarks while presiding over the 14th session of the Chief Minister's public grievance hearings, attended by several ministers and senior officials. The Chief Minister became visibly upset when an elderly man, identified as Jagabandhu Panda, told him that he would 'prefer to die by suicide' as his grievances had remained unheard for a long time. Annoyed at Panda's words, Majhi said, 'If your grievances are genuine, they will certainly be addressed. I am there for you people. Please do not talk of 'suicide'. It is not a good word.' The Chief Minister later heard Panda's grievances and assured him that the case would be genuinely to reporters later, Panda said he has been with the PWD as a temporary worker since 1993 and earns Rs 6,000. 'My wife is a paralysis patient and my son is physically challenged. Life has become difficult for me. Therefore, I suddenly used the word suicide. I shouldn't have spoken like this. However, the Chief Minister listened to my grievances and assured me that the issue would be resolved,' he added. Meanwhile, reacting to the alleged self-immolation death of a schoolgirl at Gaisilet in Bargarh district, State Law Minister Pritihiviraj Harichandan said, 'The government has taken the incident seriously and steps are being taken. Such incidents have been happening for some time. Suicide is not a solution to any problem.' The Law Minister appealed to distressed people to seek legal help instead of ending their lives. 'People are free to vent their grievances. The Chief Minister's doors are open to all. The government is taking steps to prevent such incidents,' he said. On Opposition parties, the Law Minister said, 'Their job is to target the government by telling lies. We are not worried about it. We are worried about the loss of lives.' Meanwhile, hours after taking charge as the chairperson of the State Commission for Women, Shovana Mohanty said people should be strong and should refrain from taking their lives. 'I assure all the women of the State that we will take necessary steps to address all issues affecting them,' she said.
