TH receives 85,000 appeals from depositors for 2025 haj season
Minister in the Prime Minister's Department (Religious Affairs) Senator Datuk Dr Mohd Na'im Mokhtar expressed hope that Saudi Arabia would consider Malaysia's request for an additional 10,000 places.
"We submitted the official request to the Saudi Arabian government last month.
"Last night, I sent a text message to my counterpart, Saudi Arabia's Haj and Umrah Minister Dr Tawfiq Fawzan Al-Rabiah, to check on the status of our appeal.
"I believe the Saudi Arabian government will give due consideration to our request," he told reporters after presenting food baskets to 100 underprivileged families in Kuala Sungai.
The programme was organised by the Kedah chapter of the Malaysian Youth Council, in cooperation with Yayasan Taqwa under the Federal Territories Islamic Religious Council (MAIWP).
On Monday, TH's chief executive officer and managing director Datuk Syed Hamadah Syed Othman said the board had submitted the request for an additional 10,000 haj quota to Saudi Arabia through the government.
He was reported as saying that the first flight to the Holy Land is scheduled for April 29, with the final departure on May 30.
Meanwhile, Na'im said that those who had filed appeals would be considered if depositors who had been offered places to perform the pilgrimage this year were unable to proceed due to various reasons, such as health issues.
During his working visit to Kedah today, Na'im also said he would be handing over two houses to underprivileged families in Baling under Yayasan Taqwa's Bait Al-Falah project, followed by the presentation of aid to 110 recipients in the district.

TH to study proposal to extend pilgrims' stay in Madinah by two days
KUALA LUMPUR: The duration of Malaysian haj pilgrims' stay in Madinah, which had been reduced from eight days to six, was due to rising accommodation costs. Minister in the Prime Minister's Department (Religious Affairs) Datuk Dr Mohd Na'im Mokhtar said maintaining the eight-day stay would incur substantial expenses for Lembaga Tabung Haji (TH). "However, TH remains committed to safeguarding the welfare of haj pilgrims. As such, TH will conduct a detailed study on the proposal to extend the pilgrims' stay in Madinah to eight days," he said in response to Dr Abd Ghani Ahmad (PN-Jerlun). Ghani had inquired about the duration of the stay in Madinah, which has been reduced from eight days to six. He said that previously, pilgrims were allowed to stay for eight days in Madinah, allowing them to perform forty consecutive prayers in Masjid an-Nabawi (the Prophet's Mosque in Madinah), which stems from a hadith. Meanwhile, for the 1446H haj season, Na'im said TH had taken proactive steps to ensure the comfort of Malaysian pilgrims, including providing bus transportation facilities in the Holy Land to ease movement and allow pilgrims to perform their religious duties more comfortably. He said the transportation services are part of TH's continuous efforts to deliver the best possible service to Malaysian haj pilgrims. "The transport services cover long-distance movements such as from the airport to pilgrims' accommodation, domestic travel between Makkah, Jeddah and Madinah, as well as movements from accommodations to key ritual sites (Masyair), including Arafah, Muzdalifah, and Mina. "To facilitate access to Masjidil Haram, TH ensures that all rented accommodations are located within one kilometre of the mosque compound," he said. He added that the close proximity allows pilgrims to walk easily to the mosque. "However, pilgrims also have the option of using taxi services or public buses, which are readily available near their accommodation. "The location of Malaysian pilgrims' accommodation is also significantly closer to Masjidil Haram compared to pilgrims from other countries, whose lodgings are located more than five kilometres away from the mosque," he said.

Beware of fake badal haj offers, warns Tabung Haji
KUALA LUMPUR: Muslims are being warned to verify the authenticity of badal haj (haj by proxy) services, especially those advertised by travel agencies or individuals. Tabung Haji (TH) Group managing director and chief executive officer Mustakim Mohamad said fraudulent offers often surge as the haj season approaches. He noted that many such promotions appear in suraus, mosques, and on social media with suspiciously low prices. 'The Saudi Government sets official haj package rates, and offers below these should be treated with caution,' he said. Mustakim explained that foreign pilgrims require a haj visa, while Saudi residents must obtain an official permit from authorities. 'For the 1446H haj season, the lowest official package for Saudi residents was around SAR10,000 (RM11,300),' he stated. This cost covered the permit and tent accommodation in Masyair but excluded transport, lodging, and meals in Makkah and Madinah. Mustakim emphasised that performing badal haj below this cost is financially unrealistic. He also warned against unethical practices, such as one individual performing haj on behalf of hundreds. 'This violates Islamic teachings and regulations set by religious authorities,' he said. Saudi Arabia has intensified enforcement, penalising pilgrims with invalid visas or permits. Offenders may face fines, imprisonment, or long-term entry bans into the kingdom. 'Offers as low as RM1,500 should raise immediate suspicion,' Mustakim cautioned. TH advises the public to seek verified sources for badal haj arrangements to avoid scams. - Bernama

Mohd Na'im: Govt takes swift action to assist stranded umrah pilgrims
KUALA LUMPUR: The government, through the Malaysian Embassy in Saudi Arabia, is taking swift action to ensure the welfare and safety of 42 umrah pilgrims who have been stranded in Jeddah since July 25, including efforts to bring them home, said Minister in the Prime Minister's Department (Religious Affairs) Datuk Dr Mohd Na'im Mokhtar. He said that the government takes such cases seriously and will not tolerate those attempting to exploit umrah pilgrims, particularly senior citizens and civil servants, emphasising that strict action, including legal measures, will be taken against them. "I am deeply concerned and sympathetic over the plight of the 42 Malaysian umrah pilgrims who have reportedly been stranded in Jeddah since July 25 for not having return flight tickets. "Since early this year, I have repeatedly reminded the public to verify the status of companies offering umrah packages through official channels of the Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture, including the dedicated portal and app for checking licenses of travel agents," he said in a Facebook post today. Mohd Na'im advised Muslims in the country to be wary and only opt for legitimate umrah operators to avoid similar incidents from recurring. According to media reports yesterday, 42 umrah pilgrims were allegedly abandoned without travel arrangements in Jeddah by a travel agency. — BERNAMA
