Muar man loses nearly RM500K to investment scam
Muar OCPD Asst Comm Raiz Mukhliz Azman Aziz said the 46-year-old victim lodged a police report on Monday (July 28) after realising he had been scammed out of RM488,740 over two months.
'The victim came across an investment advertisement on social media and clicked on a link which directed him to communicate with an unknown individual via WhatsApp.
'The victim was then instructed to download a mobile application called 'PHG Plus', allegedly for investment purposes,' he said here on Tuesday (July 29).
ACP Raiz Mukhliz added that the victim, who works at a furniture factory here, was promised an attractive return of 50% within a week and up to 500% in six months.
He said between May 21 and July 21, the victim made 39 transactions totalling RM488,740 into six different bank accounts provided by the suspect.
'However, when he tried to withdraw his so-called profits, which appeared to have reached over RM6mil in the app, he was told to first pay an additional RM600,000 as 'income tax'.
'It was at that point that the victim realised he had been cheated,' he said, adding that the case was being investigated under Section 420 of the Penal Code for cheating.
ACP Raiz Mukhliz urged the public to be vigilant against online investment scams that promise unrealistic returns within a short period.
'Always verify with official sources before making any financial commitments.
'Please follow the Royal Malaysia Police Commercial Crime Investigation Department's social media accounts on Facebook, Instagram and TikTok for updates on the latest scam tactics,' he added.

The SC said Nadihah faced two charges jointly with another individual who is at large. PETALING JAYA: The Securities Commission (SC) has charged a former unit trust consultant (UTC) Nadihah Nawi at the Kuala Lumpur Sessions Court with offences relating to securities fraud involving purported unit trust investments. In a statement, the SC said Nadihah, 34, faced two charges jointly with another individual who is at large, under section 179(b) of the Capital Markets and Services Act 2007, read together with section 34 of the Penal Code. 'She was charged with defrauding two investors of RM20,000 by representing to them a unit trust investment in Kenanga Investors Bhd (KIB). 'The offences took place between January and June 2022 in Kuala Lumpur. 'The monies deposited by the investors were instead utilised for Nadihah's own unit trust investments in KIB. 'Nadihah was a UTC with Principal Asset Management Bhd at the material time.' The SC said Nadihah claimed trial to both charges before Sessions Court judge Tuan Izralizam Sanusi and was granted bail of RM70,000 with two local sureties. The court also imposed an additional bail condition for the defendant to report to the SC's investigating officer at the SC office in Kuala Lumpur on a monthly basis.

GOF seizes 14 goats, 190kg of ketum in Kelantan raids
PASIR MAS: The General Operations Force (GOF) has seized 14 goats and 190kg of ketum leaves, with a combined estimated value of over RM18,000, in two separate operations carried out here and in Tanah Merah. GOF Southeast Brigade commander Datuk Nik Ros Azhan Nik Abd Hamid said two local men were arrested in connection with the possession of the livestock and the ketum leaves. He said both seizures were made under Op Taring Wawasan Kelantan, which took place on Monday and last night. In the first operation, members of the 7th Battalion spotted a suspicious vehicle at Chabang Empat Tendong in Pasir Mas at around 7pm yesterday. "Upon inspection, GOF personnel found 14 goats cramped in the rear of the vehicle. "The 41-year-old driver failed to produce any documentation for the animals, which are believed to have been intended for sale on the local market. The estimated value of the seizure is RM10,500," he said. The case has been referred to the Kelantan Veterinary Department for further action under Section 36(1) of the Animals Act 1953. In a separate case, Ros Azhan said GOF personnel discovered several packages of ketum leaves in a vehicle. "The car was stopped as it passed through Kampung Bechah Butir Nangka in Tanah Merah at around 9am on Monday. Inside, the personnel found 19 black plastic packages containing 190kg of ketum leaves. The driver was also detained. "The seizure, valued at about RM7,600, has been handed over to the Tanah Merah Narcotics Criminal Investigation Division," he said. The case is being investigated under Section 30(3) of the Poisons Act 1952.

Owner offered to sell Kelantan FC for RM300,000 amid confusion
KUALA LUMPUR: Kelantan FC owner Norizam Tukiman revealed that he had offered to sell his team to Gerakan Selamatkan Kelantan (GSK), led by Nik Hafiz Naim Nik Hassan, for RM300,000. However, Norizam said that the offer, which included a "large discount," did not receive a response from GSK. "I gave them options for free and for sale, but GSK didn't accept, instead wanting to buy and 'control' TRW Kelantan FC completely. "Discussions started from RM3 million, and eventually, I agreed to sell the majority stake for RM300,000, but in the end, there was no answer from Nik Hafiz. "I also contacted Nik Hafiz regarding this payment, but then suddenly, there was silence," Norizam said in a post on his Facebook page. Norizam claimed that Nik Hafiz decided to establish Kelantan Red Warriors (KRW) after negotiations to purchase shares in Kelantan FC fell through. "Instead, Nik Hafiz directly met with the Kelantan Football Association (KAFA) and the Amateur Football League (AFL) and established KRW. "I see KRW wanting to become TRW, using the name Kelantan Red Warriors along with the logo that is officially owned by TRW. "Today, people are confused that there's another TRW from Kelantan Darul Naim. To me, this confusion wouldn't be an issue if the AFL and the FA of Malaysia drafted a specific law about names," said Norizam.
