Can Dogecoin Reach $1 in 10 Years?

Globe and Mail15 hours ago
A lot of attention deservedly goes to the ongoing artificial intelligence (AI) boom. But investors can't forget another important innovation in the past decade or so, which is the rise of cryptocurrencies and blockchain networks. Love the industry or hate it, the market is valued at $3.3 trillion. So, there's certainly demand.
However, critics will point to how much speculation characterizes the crypto industry. Dogecoin (CRYPTO: DOGE) might be the main culprit of this frenzy. The dog-inspired meme token was originally created as a joke. But now it's the ninth-most valuable crypto, worth $24 billion.
Where to invest $1,000 right now? Our analyst team just revealed what they believe are the 10 best stocks to buy right now. Continue »
In the past 10 years, Dogecoin's price has surged 82,140% higher, despite unnerving bouts of volatility. As of June 26, it trades 78% below its peak from May 2021. Can this token rise 525% to reach $1 in 10 years?
Unpredictable price swings
Casinos are popular partly because of the thrill they provide to gamblers. I suppose the same behavioral aspect can apply to Dogecoin.
The token experiences wild price movements. For instance, it absolutely skyrocketed in November through the first week of December. But it's been a disappointment in 2025. Trying to time the ups and downs is fun for certain market participants.
But this highlights the unpredictable nature of Dogecoin. There are really no fundamental reasons for why the price bounces around like it does. Instead, excitement on social media can control the narrative. And public endorsements by Elon Musk can also work wonders for the token's price.
This enthusiasm can rapidly fade away, though. This makes it all the more difficult to trust Dogecoin as a long-term investment.
The other issue that Dogecoin faces, particularly when it comes to increasing in price, is that there is not a supply cap. As of June 26, there are 150 billion DOGE tokens in circulation. Thanks to its proof-of-work consensus system, 5 billion new tokens are created every year. A rising supply base simply means demand has more catching up to do for the price to go up over time. That's a tough setup.
Pending a major catalyst
Dogecoin might have limited real-world use cases. However, it might be getting a major stamp of approval from the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC). Multiple spot Dogecoin exchange-traded funds (ETFs) are waiting for the go-ahead. This could bring in lots of capital.
This is exactly what happened with Bitcoin. Since the SEC finally approved spot Bitcoin ETFs on January 10, 2024, the price of the world's leading cryptocurrency is up 133%. These ETFs have amassed tens of billions of dollars in assets under management.
I am confident the Dogecoin ETFs, if approved, won't come anywhere close to Bitcoin's success. But there is certainly upside if this happens, because the SEC would essentially be publicly portraying that Dogecoin is a legitimate financial instrument -- a development I'm sure the vast majority of observers never thought would happen.
Don't expect a 525% rise by 2035
Dogecoin's price is currently $0.16. It would need to increase by 525%, or 20% on an annualized basis, to reach $1 by 2035. I don't think this bullish outcome will occur.
First off, competition is stiff. Investors have plenty of other choices when it comes to meme tokens. If speculation is your thing, there are other, younger cryptos that might be more volatile to trade with.
There are also safer bets such as Bitcoin. The financial services ecosystem that supports Bitcoin continues to expand. This crypto has a hard supply cap of 21 million. And it has deep liquidity and a powerful network effect that Dogecoin can only dream about.
In the past three years, Bitcoin's 398% gain dominates Dogecoin's 140% rise. I believe this trend will continue over the next decade and beyond. Therefore, those expecting the dog token to get to $1 in 10 years, or ever, should temper their expectations.

Why NuScale Power Stock Rocketed 23.7% Higher in June

Key Points Small modular reactor developer NuScale Power has seen its stock soar over the past two months. Political support for nuclear energy is merely one factor pushing the stock higher. While enthusiasm for nuclear energy stocks remains high, only investors comfortable with a high-risk investment should remain interested in NuScale Power. After soaring 93% in May, some may have speculated that NuScale Power (NYSE: SMR) stock would have powered down in June and given back some of its gains. But they would have been greatly mistaken. Thanks to growing political support for nuclear power and the company in talks regarding potential deals with data center developers, investors felt motivated to buy small modular reactor (SMR) developer NuScale Power. According to data provided by S&P Global Market Intelligence, NuScale Power stock rose 23.7% in June. Orders out of Washington seek more nuclear -- and investors were listening Some of the enthusiasm behind NuScale Power's stock early in the month can be attributed to President Donald Trump's executive orders from May 23 meant to reinvigorate growth in the nuclear energy industry. Specifically, the orders intend to spur expeditious installation of "advanced nuclear technologies to support national security objectives, including powering artificial intelligence (AI) computing infrastructure and national security installations." The Nuclear Regulatory Commission's approval of a second design for the company's SMR represented another catalyst for the stock's rise in late May. NuScale Power proclaims itself as the only SMR company with approval from the Nuclear Regulatory Commission. With the approval in late May, two designs are now approved: a 50 megawatt power module and a 77 megawatt power module. Bulls continued the buying activity early in the month upon learning of the company's apparent progress toward inking a deal with a top hyperscaler customer. In speaking with Axios Pro on June 5, NuScale Power's CEO John Hopkins stated that the company is in talks with several "Tier 1" hyperscalers that are interested in purchasing power from the company. Hyperscaler companies are making massive investments to support data centers that are specifically suited for AI -- and many are partnering with SMR companies. Alphabet, for example, signed a deal with SMR developer Kairos, while SMR developer Oklo inked deals with several data center developers last year as well. Is it too late to power your portfolio with NuScale Power stock? It's clear that enthusiasm for NuScale Power has been extraordinarily strong lately. What's not so clear, however, is whether the company will be able to fulfill its promise of helping to facilitate the nation's nuclear energy renaissance. The company is sure to experience some volatility as it continues its plight, so only investors with ample tolerance for risk should consider a position at this point. For those interested in a more conservative approach, a nuclear energy-focused exchange-traded fund may be a better choice. Should you invest $1,000 in NuScale Power right now? U.S. ambassador won't commit to new Canada-U.S. trade deal by July 21

The United States ambassador to Canada says a new trade deal between the two countries will be 'good for Canada,' but won't commit to a July 21 deadline to finalize an agreement. Canada and the United States resumed talks on a new trade deal this week, with Prime Minister Mark Carney saying he wants a new Canada-U.S. trade deal in place by July 21 or Canada will increase trade countermeasures. 'I'm not going to commit to a date. I wouldn't characterize it as tumultuous,' Ambassador Pete Hoekstra told CTV News Ottawa's Patricia Boal in an interview at the U.S. ambassador's residence in Ottawa on Friday. 'We're working through some things. We've got some things that we believe will make trade freer, fairer, and better for both countries.' When asked if Canada will have to accept some level of tariffs on goods coming from Canada to the United States, Hoekstra said, 'President (Donald Trump) has made it clear, I think, every country is going to pay some level of tariff.' 'But the overall agreement, I think at the end of the day, is going to be good for Canada, and I think it's going to be good for America.' Canada and the U.S. have been in trade discussions for months after Trump first imposed tariffs on Canadian goods in February. The U.S. has since imposed a series of sweeping and stacked tariffs on Canadian products, targeting a range of industries. The U.S. temporarily ended trade talks with Canada last week over this country's digital services tax, but the federal government moved to drop the tax and negotiations resumed. Carney said the move to drop the tax was part of a 'bigger negotiation' for a final deal with the U.S. Trump has said the U.S. government will start sending out letters to countries on Friday outlining tariff rates they will face on imports to the United States starting in August. Hoekstra said the United States won't 'just send a letter' to Canada to outline a new trade agreement. 'Canada is one of our biggest trading partners. We're going to have an outline, we're going to have a deal that's articulated,' Hoekstra said. The ambassador says it appears Carney and Trump have a 'very good friendship.' 'I think they regularly text, they regularly talk. And I think that's just very, very healthy.' Hoekstra: 51st state rhetoric 'media driven thing' The Canada-U.S. trade dispute and President Trump's rhetoric of Canada becoming the 51st U.S. state have caused tensions in relations between the two countries since late last year. In an interview with CNN International last month, Carney said he believed Trump is no longer interested in annexing Canada. 'He admires Canada,' Carney told CNN. 'I think it's fair to say, maybe for a period of time (he) coveted Canada.' But Trump most recently brought up the idea again in a Fox News interview last weekend, saying, 'Canada relies entirely on the United States, we don't rely on Canada.' Despite those comments, Hoekstra says Canada becoming a U.S. state hasn't come up in his discussions with Canadians, adding it's a' media driven thing.' 'If Canadians want to talk about it or dwell on it, that's their business,' Hoekstra said. 'But at the end of the day, that's a Canadian decision. That's not an American decision.' The U.S. ambassador and U.S. Embassy are hosting a party to mark Independence Day celebrations, with approximately 2,000 people expected to attend. Hoekstra said the trade dispute between Canada and the United States is no reason not to celebrate the relationship between the two countries. 'You have got to remember there are always irritants between friends. There are always discussions between friends, that's a good thing,' Hoekstra said. 'Friends should be able to be in a position to challenge each other. But just like today, we'll have it again next year. It will be a celebration of the deep ties that we have; personal ties, the business ties, military ties. We've done so many things together. We've prospered together. 'That is what we celebrate on Canada Day. That's what we celebrate on the Fourth of July, the long, enduring friendship. We celebrate that with our friends, with our family, and we celebrate it in each of our countries.' With files from The Canadian Press and Reuters and CTV News producer Spencer Van Dyk
