Kota Kinabalu: The women wing of Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS) expressed full confidence in the leadership of GRS Chairman Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor in addressing any allegations or accusations directed at him. GRS Women Chief Datuk Azizah Mohd Dun emphasised that Datuk Seri Hajiji's open statement, 'I have nothing to hide,' is clear evidence that he is a transparent leader who is not afraid to be investigated. 'We have full confidence in our chairman. He has firmly stated — 'Go ahead and investigate!' If he were guilty or afraid, he would not have dared to say such a thing. Therefore, GRS Women stands firmly behind Datuk Seri Hajiji,' she said. Azizah added that the statement reflects the sincerity and courage of a leader unafraid to face the truth. 'A leader who dares to say 'go ahead and investigate' is one who has nothing to hide. This reflects his confidence in the legal process and transparency in governance,' she added. GRS Women also called on all Sabahans not to be influenced by any attempts to disrupt the State's political stability and to continue showing support for a leadership that has brought significant progress to Sabah. 'We urge everyone to remain calm and place their trust in bold, honest and responsible leadership. Motorcyclist killed, pillion rider critically injured in Tuaran crash

District police chief Supt Noraidin Ag Maidin said the Yamaha 15ZR ridden from Kota Kinabalu towards Tuaran collided with the rear side of a Perodua Alza at 5.55am before hitting a concrete barrier. Advertisement Mohd Azli suffered severe head and body injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene, while his 26-year-old pillion rider from Lawas, who was not wearing a helmet, sustained serious injuries and was rushed to Tuaran Hospital. The Alza driver, 50, was unhurt. Observe legal safeguards in court proceedings - SLS
Mohamed Nazim KOTA KINABALU (Aug 19): Sabah Law Society (SLS) reminds the public and media to follow the legal requirements when covering the proceedings in the Court for Children involving several juveniles over the Zara Qairina Mahathir case on Wednesday. SLS president Datuk Mohamed Nazim Bin Maduarin said that Section 15 of the Child Act 2001 prohibits the publication or sharing of any information that may lead to the identification of a child involved in such proceedings. This includes names, photographs, addresses, schools, or any other particulars that could reveal their identity. Mohamed Nazim said a breach of this law may result in serious penalties. While mainstream media are generally well aware of these legal requirements, he said SLS recognises that many concerned citizens fueled by a genuine concern for justice and the protection of children; may feel compelled to share information online. 'We gently remind the public that even well-intentioned actions can inadvertently breach the law. We therefore encourage everyone to exercise care and avoid circulating material that could identify the children involved. 'What began in the dark has now come into the light of justice,' he said in a statement on Tuesday. The bullying of Zara Qairina, which once shook the conscience of the nation, has now reached the courts. Five minors will be brought before the Court for Children on Wednesday, as announced by the Attorney General. Mohamed Nazim said this a a solemn reminder that actions have consequences. As proceedings unfold, SLS reminds all parties including the public, media, and those active on social platforms that the Child Act 2001, particularly Section 15; requires that proceedings involving children be conducted in camera. This safeguard is not about lessening the seriousness of the allegations, but about ensuring that justice is carried out according to the law. For justice to be fully served in Zara's case, including the ongoing inquest, he said the process must remain free from breaches of the law that may jeopardise proceedings. Respecting court processes ensures that justice is delivered properly, fairly and beyond challenge. SLS also acknowledges the strong emotions surrounding this case. Sabahans and all fellow Malaysians have risen, spoken out, and refused to stay silent. That fire, that conscience, that unwillingness to look away, is something that commands respect. Now let that same strength show itself in discipline, by honouring the dignity of the Court and the rule of law. It urges everyone to allow the legal process, both in the Children's Court and the inquest to unfold without interference; so that justice may be served in its entirety.

PBS loyal to GRS but not ‘yes, boss' partner - Joniston

KIULU (Aug 19): Parti Bersatu Sabah (PBS) is loyal to the eight-party ruling Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS) coalition but not only follows instructions, said its information chief, Datuk Joniston Bangkuai. He stressed that PBS's role in GRS goes beyond being just another partner. 'In any coalition, true strength lies in stability and harmony. As a key partner in GRS, PBS' contribution has always been to safeguard stability and harmony within the coalition. 'But let there be no misunderstanding. Loyalty does not mean being a 'yes boss'. 'In Kiulu and across Sabah, our spirit of perseverance remains the same, and those who truly understand PBS know that our loyalty is never blind, but built on respect that is earned,' he said at the party's 40th division annual general meeting on Tuesday. PBS secretary-general Datuk Julita Majungki officiated the AGM on behalf of party acting president Datuk Seri Panglima Dr Joachim Gunsalam. Also present were party deputy predidents Datuk Seri Jahid Jahim and Datuk Seri Dr Yee Moh Chai, Gagasan Rakyat Kiulu division head Datuk Janih Bangud and Parti STAR division head Terrence Sinti. Joniston added PBS – Sabah's longest-surviving local party – is positioning itself as a catalyst for the renewal and resilience of local-based parties in the state, drawing strength from its long-standing bond with the grassroots. He said the party's endurance in the constituency since 1985 (PBS is undefeated in Kiulu since 1985) demonstrates that people continue to trust in the principles of a local-based struggle. 'Being Sabah's longest-surviving local political party, PBS in Kiulu division aims to inspire the 'rise' of the dominance of local parties in Sabah,' he said, stressing that the party's long history shows it remains relevant today, not resting on past laurels. Joniston said that PBS's legacy is a reminder for all members and supporters to keep pace with the times, to listen to the voices of the people, and to remain grounded in the party's struggles. The Kiulu assemblyman recalled that PBS president Datuk Seri Dr Maximus Ongkili once likened Kiulu's unwavering grassroots support to a 'Kiulu Charge,' a spirit that, he said, must now be enriched with fresh ideas and greater inclusivity. While he speaks from the perspective of Kiulu, he said the spirit upheld there reflects the same essence that resonates with PBS across Sabah. Looking ahead, Joniston said the party's commitment is to ensure that local voices remain at the heart of decision-making, especially as Sabah navigates economic, social, and political transformations.
