citing security concerns to attend a hearing in the granite scam case, and a special court asking him to attend via video conference.Responding to a question about his new portfolio as mineral resources minister, Regupathy said a meeting was held on Saturday with all stakeholders.
"Recently, the land fee for mining minerals was increased on orders from the Union govt and the court. This is the reason for the rise in prices of construction materials.
While the prices of m-sand and b-sand had already gone up, they have now been reduced. The govt will further reduce prices of construction materials wherever feasible," he said. The minister dismissed as baseless theories of anti-incumbency against the govt, and asserted that DMK would return to power next year."Part 2 of the Dravidian model of governance will begin with the 2026 regime. In the 2021 elections, some claimed that the stage was not set for M K Stalin. But he proved them wrong and created his own stage," he said.

DMK government sleeping for four years, says Palaniswami
AIADMK general secretary Edappadi K. Palaniswami on Tuesday alleged that the DMK government was in deep sleep for the last four years and was introducing schemes at the end of its tenure 'to cheat the people'. As part of his Statewide tour, Mr. Palaniswami addressed members of the public at the Krishnagiri roundabout. He said the government, which was in deep sleep for the past four years, was introducing the 'Ungaludan Stalin' and 'Nalam Kaakkum Stalin' schemes now. 'Law and order is at its worst, and there is no protection for people. There is no safety for the police. Drug menace has increased everywhere. People involved in criminal activities do not fear the police, and the hands of the police have been tied,' he said. Alleging that corruption was rampant under DMK rule, Mr. Palaniswami said that even at Tasmac outlets, ₹10 is additionally collected for every liquor bottle. 'In the past four years alone, ₹22,000 crore went to the 'high command' through this method,' he said. In 2017, the Tamil Nadu government signed up to Ujjwal DISCOM Assurance Yojana (Uday) on two conditions. During the four years of the AIADMK government, between 2017 and 2021, power tariff was not increased. But the DMK government hiked the tariff by 67%, citing the Uday scheme as the reason, and the industrial development was affected, he added. Listing the achievements of his government, Mr. Palaniswami said that for Krishnagiri district, a government medical college hospital, worth ₹348 crore, was constructed. But it was not maintained properly now. Earlier, the former Chief Minister met representatives of farmers' associations. In his interaction with them, he said, 'During AIADMK rule, we met farmers and fulfilled their demands.' The AIADMK government introduced schemes for their welfare. It gave compensation for the crops damaged by wild animals. Electric fences were provided to prevent elephants from entering human habitations. After the AIADMK returned to power, a committee would be formed, and based on its recommendations, steps would be taken to prevent animals from entering human habitations, and compensation would be hiked for the families of those killed in man-animal conflicts. Through the lift irrigation scheme, surplus water would be diverted to lakes from Thenpennai River in the district, Mr. Palaniswami added.

Rajnath thanks Modi for Metro expansion

Modi should strongly oppose U.S. imposing 50% tariff, says Chief Minister Stalin
Chief Minister M.K. Stalin said in Chennai on Tuesday that the BJP-led Union government and Prime Minister Narendra Modi should strongly oppose the U.S. imposing 50% tariff on Indian imports and both should be open about their position. He was speaking at an event organised jointly by the National Committee of Solidarity with Cuba in India and the CPI(M). When five rounds of trade negotiations between India and the U.S. were completed and a date was being finalised for the sixth round, 'Why should U.S. President [Donald] Trump arbitrarily announce the imposing of additional tariff?', Mr. Stalin asked. Referring to the repeated claims of Mr. Trump that he was behind the ceasefire between India and Pakistan during Operation Sindoor, Mr. Stalin said: 'When the Opposition parties raised queries over that in both Houses of Parliament, Prime Minister Modi did not answer at all. It symbolises his weakness.' Observing that there was a crisis across the world, where there is a need to crush imperialism, Mr. Stalin said imperialist conspiracies did not mean only wars. 'The U.S. imposing 50% tariff on imports from India is also one such conspiracy,' he asserted. 'The BJP-led Union government should strongly oppose this.
