Making the announcement on X, the CM said the decision was part of the state's continued effort to strengthen the education system since his government assumed office in November 2005.'Since the formation of the government in November 2005, we have been continuously working to improve the education system. In the year 2005, the total education budget was Rs 4,366 crore, which has now increased to Rs 77,690 crore,' Kumar said.Under the revised structure, cooks engaged in the mid-day meal programme will now receive ₹3,300 per month, up from ₹1,650. Night watchmen deployed at secondary and higher secondary schools will get ₹10,000, up from ₹5,000. The government said its investments in the sector have led to better infrastructure, new school buildings, and large-scale teacher appointments. In addition to academic reforms, the state highlighted the role of non-teaching staff in maintaining school operations and student well-being.
'Cooks, night watchmen, and physical education and health instructors have played an important role in strengthening the education system. Keeping this in mind, we have decided to double their honorarium, making a respectable increase in their remuneration,' the CM said. In addition, their annual increment has been raised from ₹200 to ₹400. Kumar said the move was aimed at improving staff motivation and service quality. 'This will boost the morale of the working staff, and they will perform their duties with greater enthusiasm and dedication,' he said.

His lawyers also had submitted that the right to travel is an aspect of fundamental right guaranteed by the Constitution, and that there is nothing to show that he had previously misused the liberty granted to him. 'Considering the nature of application and purpose of travel, coupled with the fact that it will take time for trial to commence, the applicant is entitled to travel on certain conditions,' the court said in the order passed last week. He was directed to pay a deposit of Rs 1 lakh as security and to inform the ED on his return. Chavan was arrested by the ED alleging irregularities in work orders issued by the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) to supply khichdi to migrant workers during the Covid-19 pandemic.

CPI(M) condemns police clampdown, arrests in Karedu village
The Communist Party of India (Marxist) State Committee has strongly condemned the 'forcible and illegal attempt' by the government to acquire land from farmers in Karedu village, Nellore district, for the IndoSol company. In a statement on Tuesday (August 5, 2025), CPI(M) State Secretary V. Srinivasa Rao accused the government of creating fear and confusion among villagers to extract land consent by coercion, despite local farmers' resistance. The revenue officials had reportedly entered the village and started collecting Aadhaar numbers, land documents, and passbooks from each household. When villagers refused to comply, they were allegedly intimidated. During the standoff, leaders of the Rythu Sangham and Agricultural Workers' Union, including Kumar, Pullayya, and G. Venkateswarlu, were arrested and taken to Ulavapadu police station, according to CPI(M). The CPI(M) leader alleged that Section 30 of the Police Act was imposed across the entire Ulavapadu Mandal, and police posts were set up surrounding Karedu village, effectively placing the village under siege. 'False cases are being filed against farmer leaders. People are being prevented from holding meetings. All of this is part of a plan to illegally seize land by instilling fear,' he alleged. CPI(M) demanded immediate withdrawal of the police siege, release of the arrested farmer and union leaders, respect for the Gram Sabha resolution opposing land acquisition, and withdrawal of the land acquisition notification for the IndoSol project. He said the public resistance would be intensified if these demands are not met and called the current actions unconstitutional and undemocratic.

Both Centre and state have a share in Bengaluru metro project: DK Shivakumar
Bengaluru (Karnataka) [India], August 5 (ANI): Stating that both the state and the Centre hold shares in the metro project, Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar on Tuesday said that serving the people was more important than 'credit' politics. Speaking to reporters after inspecting the soon-to-be-launched Yellow line of Namma metro, the Deputy CM, who also holds the Bengaluru city portfolio, said, 'This is our metro. The CM and I had requested the PM to inaugurate the Yellow line, and he has now given the time. This is not a project of the Central government alone; the state too has a 50% share in the project. We are all serving the public." He was replying to a question about whether the inauguration of the Yellow line was decided by the Centre or the State. 'The PM will inaugurate the Yellow line on August 10. The 19.15 km line with 16 stations was built at Rs 7,610 crore. A small programme will be organised at the auditorium in the Indian Institute of Management, Bengaluru. The PM, CM and the local legislators would travel in the inaugural trip of the train thereafter. We will submit an appeal to the PM on funds needed for the double-decker project's land acquisition," he said. Asked about extension of metro network and building more double-decker metro lines, DK Shivakumar said, 'It would be nice if the MPs who are making a lot of noise get us some funds. The MPs don't speak a word on the funds, but are engaged in nitpicking. We have decided to build double-decker metro lines for all lines in the future." 'The Commissionerate of Railway Safety gave the clearance for the Yellow line on July 31. We can't rush through things like safety. Tejaswi Surya is young blood in a hurry and doesn't have any experience," he said. 'Three train sets have arrived for the Yellow line, and the fourth set will come in August. Train sets have to come from many other domestic facilities. Frequency will be increased once more train sets arrive." Asked about burgeoning traffic in Bengaluru, he said, 'People from all around the country are migrating to Bengaluru. Good weather, Cauvery water, and educational institutions are attracting people.
