Strictly drug scandal, sexual slurs, 'Z-list' line-up - will it survive another year?

Strictly Come Dancing has been plagued by scandals, but it's still winging its way to our screens in September, despite some viewers calling for its axe Strictly Come Dancing has been sullied by scandals over the last few years, tarnishing its former family-friendly reputation. Kicking off in 2023 with the drama surrounding Giovanni Pernice - who was accused of bullying Sherlock star, Amada Abbington - the show's reputation as the jewel in the Beeb's crown seemed to be perilously precarious. ‌ After Giovanni was cleared of some but not all of the charges against him made by Amanda, his fellow Italian Graziano di Primo was also given the boot after footage of him appearing to kick Love Island star, Zara McDermott, in the rehearsal studio was leaked. ‌ Graziano apologised after his exit from Strictly, insisting: "I wasn't meaning to kick her. I'd never, never do that. My foot brushed her after I kicked the floor." But viewers weren't happy, with many urging the BBC to pull the plug. It comes as a PR expert has warned that Strictly is facing an identity crisis. ‌ A slew of scandals In more drama for the dance series, Go Compare star, Wynne Evans, was seen with his hand creeping around Katya Jones' waist in an alleged "in joke" between the pair last year. The Welsh warbler was then axed from the show's tour after making an alleged sexual slur about Janette Manrara and has now been let go by the BBC completely. And just when the show had seemed, for a second, scandal-free, Strictly was hit by another bombshell when it was claimed that two of its stars were high on cocaine and boozing during filming. When contacted by the Mirror about the claims its stars were drinking on set and being 'monitored', the BBC said it did "not recognise the claims and any suggestion that anyone has been asked to monitor an individual is completely untrue". However, the Metropolitan Police confirmed that they are investigating a drug allegation related to the BBC' s hit programme. This investigation after fresh reports that external lawyers Pinsent Masons began an inquiry into the dance competition, just days after its 14th celebrity contestant was confirmed. They previously launched an inquiry into the show after claims that two of its stars had used the Class A drug, cocaine in a long list of controversies the show has faced in the past few years. ‌ 'Z-list' line-up Scandals aside, there's also pressure on the show after it revealed an 'underwhelming' line-up, announcing the class of 2025. Strictly will return to our screens this autumn for the 23rd series, but some fans say they have already been left feeling short-changed. To crank up the excitement, the show's social media team has been dropping an announcement for each contestant. Among the names we can expect to see on the show including Gladiators star Harry Aikines-Aryeetey, Love Island's Dani Dyer and Doctor Who star Alex Kingston. While some excitement simmered for the likes of Vicky Pattinson and YouTube star George Clarke, plenty of people were left wanting more. As BBC bosses revealed Lioness and broadcaster Karen Carney and Hollywood correspondent for Lorraine, Ross King, viewers spoke up. ‌ Strictly fans were quick to flood the comments of the post with their opinions – and many of them didn't hold back. One user wrote: "Not really into the lineup this year. It feels a little underwhelming for me." Another person mused: "Is it me, or are they really scraping the barrel for these 'celebrities'? It feels like the Z-list reboot." So can Strictly survive? The short answer is yes. Despite the slew of scandals that have surrounded it in recent years, the show still has a legion of loyal viewers who look forward to tuning in every week to see the celebrities chance their arm in a tough arena as they learn a new skill and usually something cute about themselves. ‌ The programme is still one of the BBCs' biggest exports, with many viewers defending Strictly despite some urging for it to be axed after 21 years in wake of the bad press that has surrounded it. 'You can't blame Strictly for the douchebags' After Channel 5's Jeremy Vine Show debated whether it was time for the show to end, many took to X to advocate for the show. ‌ Ahead of the new series, one declared: "I love Strictly and look forward to it! Only good thing about autumn" as another said: "Don't be ridiculous it's a great show !!" A third wrote: "No. It's one of the best shows on tv and just because something gets mentioned in a paper. Doesn't make it true." Meanwhile, a fourth stated that you can't blame Strictly for "some of the douche bags" caught up in the controversy, posting: "You seriously can't blame the show, which is hugely popular for some of the douchebags that manage to get on it. If you go around every tv show or work place, you're going to find wrong-uns! Ridiculous hysteria." The new series of Strictly starts in September, where it will, hopefully, be heavy on sequins and low on scandals.

BBC The One Show's Roman Kemp's struggle to find happiness after heartbreaking family comment

The One Show star Roman Kemp has opened up about his desire to have a family and how he believes it will be the moment he finds "true happiness" The One Show's Roman Kemp has confessed that he believes he hasn't yet found "true happiness". The 32 year old star has opened up about his longing to start a family one day. ‌ Roman, who is famously close with his parents, Spandau Ballet bassist Martin Kemp and former Wham! singer Shirlie Holliman, has often spoken about their unique parenting style. During an appearance on Loose Women in 2019, Martin revealed that he and Shirlie chose to raise Roman and his sister Harley more like "friends" than children. ‌ Roman has described this approach as a "best friend thing", admitting it made it easier for him to confide in his parents. ‌ Now, the former Capital Breakfast host has shared his hopes of having a family of his own, believing that it will bring him a "sense of true happiness". He made this revelation while discussing the concept of success with pop star and good mate Tom Grennan, reports the Express. Roman elaborated: "I don't think I'll ever have that feeling of success until I have kids I can look at and go, 'We did alright'. My parents never, ever said to us, 'You need to be this, you've got to do that job, all my parents ever asked is, 'Are you happy?' All of those types of things and that, I think, would define success for me over anything." When asked by Tom if he was happy, Roman replied: "Sometimes, but you're not human if you're happy all the time. It's working out work-life balance and that's what I've tried to do ever since I left Capital. That's one of the reasons that I left because I didn't have that, I didn't have a work-life balance, I didn't understand it. "You'll know, when I send you a picture of a scan, or something like that, or when I tell you my child has been born, when I send you that text, you'll know f*****g hell, he's happy. Because I don't think I've had that yet, that sense of true happiness." ‌ The star, who often shares the screen with his dad on shows like Celebrity Gogglebox, Martin and Roman's Weekend Best! and Bromans, revealed his hopes for his future children to see their bond. In an interview with Hello! magazine, he shared: "My dad and I get to work with each other all the time and I'm so lucky for that. The reason we work together is because I know how much I'm going to love my kids and my family watching that footage of me and their grandad working together - and that's just our relationship." This comes as Roman is rumoured to be engaged to model Carmen Gaggero. As reported by WalesOnline, the couple have been an item since last year and made their relationship public last summer after being seen leaving Le Petit Maison in Mayfair. Speculation about an engagement started when Carmen was spotted with a ring on her engagement finger during a night out in London. According to the publication, pals reckon Roman is prepared to "settle down". Roman will be returning to screens on The One Show from 7pm on BBC One tonight alongside co-host Clara Amfo. The pair will be joined by Gemma Arterton and Thomas Brodie-Sangster who will be discussing the film Grand Prix of Europe.

The Love Island star turned business owner, 26, admitted she messaged paparazzi asking them to delete an unflattering picture of herself. Molly-Mae shared with her subscribers that she uses an ice roller on her face, neck and jaw - after seeing a photo of herself online. The content creator who boasts 1.9million subscribers on YouTube and has a jaw-dropping £6million fortune, said: "If there was any way to get humbled, it was to see the picture of me yesterday," after a picture leaked of her coming out of the office. She continued: "What I would like to know is where this (pointing to neck and chin) is in this picture. I look like a thumb-thumb from Spy Kids. "My face is connected to my body, and there's no neck. No neck. The neck left the chat for this picture." The millionaire, who lives in a huge £3.5million mansion, added: "The pap that took this photo actually took it down because I DM'd him. "I was in that much shock, I said to him like 'Do you pick these photos?' Because I don't ever really speak to these guys, but I just thought, 'Do you choose these? Are you actually trying to sabotage me?' "Some people think they edit them, but I actually don't think they do edit them. "Like I'm going to humble myself here and say I probably do look something like that - but you guys can see like... I do have a chin." Molly-Mae has also been slammed by parents after refusing to discipline Bambi for biting another child. Mums slam Molly-Mae after she refuses to discipline Bambi for biting a child & accuse her of using toddler as 'ragebait' Not only did fans advise the influencer to be 'stricter' with her daughter, but others told her to stop using the toddler as 'ragebait.' Just days after sobbing on camera and being branded 'out of touch' by fans, the star got candid on her daughter Bambi's recent behaviour at nursery. She admitted that Bambi, two, bit another child at nursery. And has now been accused of letting Bambi 'get her own way too much.' Molly-Mae's glow-down from 'glamour model' to 'yummy mummy' Celebrity PR Expert, Ed Hopkins told Fabulous: 'I believe Molly-Mae Hague's new look is more than just a style change but a powerful statement of who she is becoming. 'It underscores her journey towards authenticity, maturity, and sophistication and is likely to enhance her success and influence in the years to come.' Brand and Culture Expert Nick Ede agreed, and told Fabulous: 'Molly-Mae has transformed herself into a yummy mummy who has ditched the glamour model style for a more relaxed and natural look. 'She's becoming more down to earth and relatable to people and cleverly showing a softer side which will win her legions more fans in the process.' According to Ed Hopkins, Molly-Mae's chic new look could be 'highly lucrative' for the star. Ed told Fabulous: 'Molly-Mae Hague's transformation towards a more natural, chic look seems to be a testament to her personal growth and evolving style. 'This change, which has become more pronounced since she became a mother, appears to reflect her journey towards embracing authenticity and sophistication. 'It's possible that this new image could be highly lucrative for Molly-Mae. 'Her chic, understated style might appeal to a wider audience, including more mature demographics and high-end brands, potentially opening up lucrative endorsement deals and partnerships. 'By adopting a more elegant look, she seems to align herself with premium and luxury brands that favour natural beauty and sophistication, which could lead to higher-paying collaborations. 'Additionally, with consumers increasingly valuing authenticity and natural beauty, her new image could be both timely and marketable.' Nick Ede agreed and told Fabulous: 'She has started to promote some really great luxury brands including the cosmetics brand Tatcha and with her laid back look she will make a lot of money from brands looking to align with her.' Ed also noted that Molly-Mae's transformation may be a sign that she is looking to step away from her reality show past. He continued: 'Molly-Mae's transformation also seems to symbolise her desire even more so to well and truly step out of the shadow of her Love Island persona. 'The shift to a more mature and unique style appears to demonstrate her growth and her wish to be seen as an individual beyond her reality TV beginnings. 'By shedding the bold, flashy look associated with her time on Love Island, she might be rebranding herself as a serious businesswoman and influencer who is carving out her own identity. 'This new look helps her stand out in the crowded influencer market, showcasing her as a trendsetter with a distinctive, refined aesthetic.' Nick agreed and claimed: 'Shedding the flash looks she previously went for, she's also detaching herself from the Love Island stereotype and stepping out as her own person with a cool look that's not flashy but totally on trend. 'Gone are the 'look at me' posts and in are family style posts and trend led fashion statements.' While some parents recognised biting as 'normal behaviour for Bambi's age,' many accused the star of not being 'strict' enough with her child. And that's not all, as others even accused the Maebe founder of using Bambi as ragebait - online content designed to intentionally provoke anger or outrage in viewers, with the goal of increasing engagement and traffic. One person said: 'Bambi has issues, it's called she is spoilt.' Another added: 'By ignoring it you're not correcting her behaviour and it will only get worse.' A third chimed in and wrote: 'Because she isn't strict.' A fourth slammed: 'Bambi needs gets her own way at home too much.' A fifth penned: 'Bambi is ragebait.' 5 Molly-Mae revealed her shock after seeing the leaked picture Credit: YouTube/MollyMae 5 Some mums have slammed Molly-Mae for "spoiling" her only child Credit: Instagram
