General Daily Insight for June 18, 2025
We can all open our hearts a bit more willingly under today's stars. The Sun in talkative Gemini is sextiling therapeutic Chiron in Aries at 4:44 am EDT, fostering environments where we can comfortably speak about the things that might be holding us back. We'll be more than ready to dive into any subject when the Moon then enters Aries. Keep in mind that a gentle touch will be most effective, particularly as Luna conjoins soothing Neptune, making it easier to be honest with ourselves.
Aries
March 21 – April 19
Don't try to hide your feelings. The Sun in your 3rd House of Communication is making a supportive sextile to healing Chiron in your own 1st House of the Self, reminding you of the importance of releasing emotion. Be willing to give a voice to the things that have been bothering you or dragging you down — you should be able to process them more easily than usual. This will let you move forward with less weighing you down. Give yourself the gift of honesty.
Taurus
April 20 – May 20
Something may seem off, but that doesn't mean it actually is off. The Sun in your grounded 2nd house is sextiling sensitive Chiron in your hidden 12th house, so it may feel like you're missing an important piece of the puzzle. That said, a big part of this is possibly feeling like you don't have enough control over a certain matter. Once you step back and accept that control is not something you can easily dictate, you may realize you were worrying over nothing.
Gemini
May 21 – June 20
You may need to play peacemaker today. You are currently in the cosmic spotlight while the Sun tours your sign. Even so, as the Sun nudges wounded Chiron in your 11th House of Connectivity, there may be a hiccup or two in your friend group or some other club you're part of. You are likely very good at being impartial, so people may need you to step in and assess the situation. Listen to all sides fairly, and you can quickly find a solution.
Cancer
June 21 – July 22
There doesn't need to be a reason for every good thing that happens to you. Today, you might experience an ah-ha moment or some kind of advancement. This could happen with very little effort on your part, thanks to a sextile between the Sun in your 12th House of the Subconscious and Chiron in your 10th House of Business. Someone may act on your behalf or in your favor, and that could send plenty of rewards your way in turn. You deserve this.
Leo
July 23 – August 22
You can get by with a little help from your friends! The Sun in your extroverted 11th house is sextiling Chiron in your expansion sector, so the people you normally surround yourself with can do wonders to open your eyes up to avant-garde ideas. You may also be meeting some people who feel like a breath of fresh air, and your bonds with them can blossom into something really lovely down the line. This is no time to take on life by yourself.
Virgo
August 23 – September 22
Your ambitions can only take you so far if they don't have personal importance. The Sun in your professional 10th house is pushing you to achieve, but its sextile to Chiron in your serious 8th house means you won't be interested in busywork or meaningless goals. You need to be spiritually or emotionally involved in what you are doing, or else it will not fulfill you. If they already do, congratulations! If not, then take this opportunity to plan some course corrections.
Libra
September 23 – October 22
Currently, growth is most manageable with mutual support. A helpful sextile between the Sun in your high-minded 9th house and dutiful Chiron in your personable 7th house wants you to connect with others in order to broaden your horizons. Someone from far away could appear on the scene to open your eyes to unforeseen possibilities, but you could also help another person see life through a fresh lens. Everyone involved can use their unique talents on different issues that arise as needed.
Scorpio
October 23 – November 21
Even the biggest problems can be broken down into manageable steps. The skies are hosting a sextile between the Sun in your passionate 8th house and Chiron in your no-nonsense 6th house. Their collaboration reminds you that you can handle just about anything as long as you take it one step at a time! There may be some daunting tasks ahead of you, but don't let the big picture overwhelm you. All you need to do is think carefully, and you can win the day.
Sagittarius
November 22 – December 21
Doubling up means double the fun today! You are in the perfect frame of mind to team up while the Sun is in your relationship sector, and you can be sure of having a pleasant time as the Sun sextiles Chiron in your creativity sector. It should be easy to share the fun on offer, whether you're hanging out at an event or spending a quiet evening at one of your homes. Finding satisfaction will be easier when you aren't flying solo.
Capricorn
December 22 – January 19
Your responsibilities could use a little attention. The Sun in your 6th House of Practicality is sextiling Chiron in your 4th House of Foundations, which invites you to look around your life for any mess or turmoil and start cleaning it up, once and for all. This can refer to literal clutter, or perhaps you've let a few threads of your life get a bit too loose, and you need to weave them back together. Either way, focus on mending and improving.
Aquarius
January 20 – February 18
Creativity can be healing, now more than ever. Thanks to a lovely sextile between the Sun in your artistic 5th house and Chiron in your verbose 3rd house, this is a wonderful time to let yourself play around and see what you can create when you aren't completely focused on the results. Indeed, it will probably be in the very act of playing around and experimenting that you will find the most satisfaction. There's no need to weigh yourself down with unnecessary expectations.
Pisces
February 19 – March 20
Bring a bit of beauty to your space. Your domestic 4th house is all lit up while the Sun is in the midst of its annual tour, but today, it is sextiling Chiron in your luxurious 2nd house. When was the last time you added a new piece to your abode? This doesn't need to require a big outlay of money if you are working within a budget. Simply focus on making your home a place where you are happy with your surroundings.

Colleges need more comedy

We live in humorless times, and yet the need to laugh seems more vital than ever. Conversations on college campuses are tense right now, if they happen at all. I have taught on a university campus for close to two decades, but only recently have I started to give some consideration to comedy as a serious source of study. In 2020, when the pandemic hit and teaching went virtual, I struggled to keep my undergraduates engaged. COVID-19 crippled us to the core, and my students' minds were perpetually elsewhere. Eventually, they felt fatigued by doom and gloom. That's when I decided to test out some humor. Never a confident comedian, I initially felt awkward. However, the light-hearted laughter came with patience and time. Having learned from my stepson that many members of Gen Z appreciate puns, I started with verbal irony and progressed from there. Certain jokes didn't resonate — and they still don't — but I have learned over time to roll with the punches. Today, I weave humor into everything and, as an English professor, I find so many promising parallels between jokes and narratives. As the humanities increasingly becomes a target in our data-driven world of deliverables and returns on investment, the study and practice of humor has the potential to enhance and enrich higher education. Humor studies, an interdisciplinary field that extends from literature and writing to business and health care professions, has grown over the past decade or so. A Google Scholar search reveals that 2010 produced many pieces on pedagogy and comedy. Learning through laughter became a prevalent theme 15 years ago, but nothing that I can find considers humorous healing through higher education during our turbulent times on college campuses. Still, humor is a subject of widespread interest among both those in academia and the larger public. As the world welcomes Pope Leo, I came across a New York Times opinion piece by his predecessor titled 'There is Faith in Humor.' Pope Francis argues that laughter is central to living, just as humor humanizes us. The piece also emphasizes the centrality of comedy to Catholic faith, interfaith conversations and social justice. Humor and comedy take courage, of course, and also coincide with creative and critical thinking. Amidst concerns about campus censorship, the study of humor is central to both the liberal arts and pre-professional programs. Students come to my classes believing that serious literature is dry and grim, but my message to them is that deep learning can come from a serious examination of funny narratives and situations. This idea often resonates not only with English majors, but with future business leaders and health care professionals who see laughter as crucial to lifelong learning and their future careers. Allison Beard's 2014 Harvard Business Review piece 'Leading with Humor' convincingly argues that a sense of humor in managers and directors can go a long way to diffusing conflict and leading with conviction. Humor is also tied to human survival, even during the darkest days. Holocaust survivor Viktor Frankl writes in 'Man's Search for Meaning' that 'humor was another of the soul's weapons in the fight for self-preservation.' Although Aristotle distinguishes the two in 'The Poetics,' one of the earliest works of literary criticism in the Western tradition, the ancient Greek thinker claims that comedy is never very far from tragedy. Steve Allen, the first host of 'The Tonight Show,' said that 'comedy is tragedy plus time.' Though it may seem challenging, today's times are appropriate for humor. In this age of artificial intelligence, humor humanizes our writing and teaching. Context is crucial, of course, as is sensitivity to language. The next generation of learners can certainly benefit from this focus on lifelong learning through laughter, which in many ways is the freest form of expression. Cara Erdheim Kilgallen is an author and associate professor of English at Sacred Heart University.

Daily Horoscope for June 19, 2025

General Daily Insight for June 19, 2025 There is practically no such thing as boundaries today. We'll have no problem jumping to the heart of any matter at hand as the Moon in Aries sextiles Pluto in Aquarius first thing. The world will take on all the vibrancy and fragmented beauty of an Impressionist painting when enthusiastic Jupiter in Cancer squares illusory Neptune in Aries at 6:50 am EDT. With Mars in Virgo then making a quincunx to Saturn, also in Aries, it'll be difficult to settle on one distinct strategy. Aries March 21 – April 19 It isn't currently easy to know what to do with all your emotions. Your feelings are larger than life while boundless Jupiter is spinning along through your sensitive 4th house, even as its square to foggy Neptune in your headstrong sign could make it rather difficult to figure out how to express them. What feels like a big deal could blow over in just a little while, and you won't know why you got worked up in the first place. Avoid overreacting. Taurus April 20 – May 20 Your immediate vicinity may resemble a wonderland more than the regular landscape you know. Excitable Jupiter in your local community sector tangles with magical Neptune in your dreamy 12th house for a confusing square, so everything is a bit out of proportion at the moment. That said, your usual routine might lead you down rabbit holes when you least expect them. The resulting adventure should be quite thrilling, if a little lacking in productive or disciplined energy, but that hardly matters. Have fun! Gemini May 21 – June 20 An atmosphere of generosity is shimmering in the air. A mind-stretching square between Jupiter in your invested 2nd house and Neptune in your humanitarian 11th house could inspire you to give your time or resources to a worthy cause. This is all good in theory, but Neptune can obscure the truth. Be sure to do your research before you start making any contributions, because the last thing you want is to find out that the organization in question is less than noble after donating. Cancer June 21 – July 22 You have endless energy, but knowing how to channel it wisely is another matter entirely. Your enthusiasm is off the charts while lucky Jupiter is moving along through your sign, bestowing all its blessings upon you. Opposingly, Jupiter's square to Neptune in your ambitious 10th house can cast a veil over the clear path forward. You may have a dozen different ideas and aspirations, but you'll do better if you just focus on a few of them, rather than trapping yourself with too many choices. Leo July 23 – August 22 Your dreams can take you all the way over the rainbow! There is a rare square between Jupiter in your fantastical 12th house and Neptune in your adventurous 9th house, practically begging you to soar off to parts unknown like an untethered balloon. This likely sounds very exciting, and it can indeed bring a lot of pleasure to your life. Still, be careful about flying so far away that you have no idea where you've wound up or how to get back home again. Virgo August 23 – September 22 Shadows may seem to creep into even the brightest of moments today. You are ready to come together and enjoy life with others while Jupiter is dancing through your affable 11th house — at least until that enthusiastic planet trips over mysterious Neptune in your secretive 8th house. This stumble could add a layer of fog to everything. Watch out for the temptation to read between the lines, because you might find some scandalous notions there, only to realize they aren't founded in reality. Libra September 23 – October 22 People may mean well, but that doesn't mean they are entirely reliable. You want to accomplish a lot and make a name for yourself while Jupiter is in your 10th House of Career, yet its square to illusory Neptune in your 7th House of Alignments will make it difficult to know who you can count on for a boost. Someone may promise you the stars, but being able to deliver them is another matter altogether. Self-sufficiency is very important right now. Scorpio October 23 – November 21 Reality is for the birds. The temptation to leave your usual responsibilities on the back burner will be strong while Jupiter in your outstretched 9th house pokes Neptune in your routine 6th house. They're supplying the inspiration to search for something new and exciting. That is all well and good — go ahead and explore something that fascinates you. Just remember that Neptune's haziness will make it easy to miss something important, so keep your senses alert even while on your whirlwind adventure. Sagittarius November 22 – December 21 It isn't always easy to know where to seek pleasure. You may feel pulled all over the place in your search for satisfaction as Jupiter in your intimate 8th house squares Neptune in your freewheeling 5th house. One moment you want to keep your circle small and your actions private, the next you want to find the cosmic spotlight and let everyone know exactly what you're all about. Ask yourself if there is any reason that you can't keep some things subtle while declaring others. Capricorn December 22 – January 19 Let people into your life. Jupiter in your relationship sector is bringing plenty of positive people your way, who all have their own ideas and opportunities to offer. With Jupiter squaring Neptune in your emotional sector, you'll probably be more than happy to let them in without question. On the other hand, Neptune can blur boundaries, so make sure you aren't letting someone take up more space than necessary or giving away more of yourself than is wise for your life in the long run. Aquarius January 20 – February 18 Today may fly by like a whirlwind. There is a potent square between Jupiter in your can-do 6th house and Neptune in your wordy 3rd house. Their debate could leave you feeling like you're in the midst of a tennis match, with the ball bouncing back and forth at the speed of light. Instead of trying to keep your eye on the ball, give yourself permission to sit back and enjoy the show. It won't be easy to play the game properly right now. Pisces February 19 – March 20 Be wary of throwing your money around. You have every right to enjoy yourself while fun-loving Jupiter is dancing along through your 5th House of Happiness, but its square to Neptune in your 2nd House of Income could make it seem like you need to spend more than usual to make it happen. It will be easy to get caught up in the general excitement, but stick to a budget, or you could regret your actions when the fun parade finally moves on.
