Saudi Arabia's Al-Hilal Land Uruguay Star Darwin Nunez from Liverpool
In a significant transfer move, Saudi Pro League giants Al-Hilal have completed the signing of Uruguayan striker Darwin Nunez from Premier league champions Liverpool, both clubs announced on Saturday. The Riyadh-based side confirmed that the 26-year-old will join their ranks on a three-year contract, marking a significant move as Al-Hilal continue to build a star-studded squad. Nunez joined Liverpool three years ago from Benfica for 75 million euros, making him one of the most expensive signings. Despite the hefty price tag, he scored 40 goals in 143 appearances, as he struggled to maintain his place under managers Jurgen Klopp and Arne Slot. As a result, his playing time decreased, prompting the club to look for new opportunities. 🎥 نمر أزرق في عرين #الهلال 🐅💙#نونيز_هلالي — نادي الهلال السعودي (@Alhilal_FC) August 9, 2025 Al-Hilal Continu Their Big-Name Signings Nunez's transfer adds to Al-Hilal's growing reputation as a destination for top international talent. Bigo Live and MLBB drive next chapter of esports in Kingdom
Saudi Arabia is fast becoming a powerhouse in global gaming. The Esports World Cup 2025 featuring a record-breaking $70 million prize pool and 24 official game titles underscores this shift from niche to mainstream gaming prominence. Under Vision 2030 and the National Gaming and Esports Strategy, the Kingdom's gaming and esports sector is expected to contribute $13.3 billion to GDP and generate more than 39,000 jobs by 2030. With 21 million gamers across the country and $1.1 billion in annual revenue, the groundwork for a thriving, sustainable digital economy is already taking shape. But sustaining this growth requires more than investment and infrastructure. It requires building meaningful ecosystems where creators, communities, and intellectual property thrive together. That's the shared focus of Bigo Live and Mobile Legends: Bang Bang, who are working together to define the next chapter of esports in the region. Bigo Live and MLBB have partnered on multiple successful events, including livestreaming the M6 World Championship and the MPL MENA 2025. The M6 event drew more than 4.13 million peak viewers globally, with an average of 709,000 viewers across 120 hours of live broadcast, making it one of MLBB's most-watched tournaments to date. The collaboration is now evolving into something more ambitious: a blueprint for hybrid esports experiences. These new formats combine physical and virtual elements, such as pro-player and streamer crossover leagues, offline community events, and gamified, storyline-driven tournaments designed to engage audiences across platforms and locations. Bigo Live has reported a 19.05 percent month-on-month increase in new gaming users in MENA, indicating strong regional resonance with its esports programming. Crucially, Bigo Live's esports strategy is anchored in a framework of creator enablement: supporting streamers with tools, infrastructure, and monetization options that make esports a sustainable path. Its three-tier approach (Support, Belonging, and Appreciation) aligns with Vision 2030's goals of digital transformation and cultural enrichment.

Al-Hilal face ban from 2026-27 Saudi Super Cup
RIYADH: Holders Al-Hilal will be banned from the 2026-27 Saudi Super Cup if they qualify after withdrawing from this season's four-team competition, the Saudi Arabia Football Federation's (SAFF) Disciplinary and Ethics Committee said on Tuesday. The decision came after Al-Hilal pulled out of the Super Cup, scheduled to be played from August 19-23 in Hong Kong, citing player fatigue following their Club World Cup campaign. They lost 2-1 to Fluminense in the quarter-finals on July 4. 'Al-Hilal refused to participate in the Saudi Super Cup for the 2025-2026 season after the official schedule for the competition was issued,' the Disciplinary and Ethics Committee said in a statement. 'As a result, the committee ruled that Al-Hilal had violated Article (59-3) of the Disciplinary and Ethics Regulations and fined the club 500,000 Saudi Riyals ($133,000) to be paid to the SAFF,' the statement added. In addition to the fine, the club was banned from participating in the 2026-27 Super Cup and stripped of any financial awards allocated for this season's competition. The committee said the decision is subject to appeal. Al-Hilal have been asked for comment. They won the Super Cup by beating Al-Nassr last season for a record-extending fifth title. The Saudi Super Cup is contested by the winners and runners-up of the King's Cup and Saudi Pro League. Al-Hilal finished second in the 2024-25 Pro League behind Al-Ittihad. Al-Hilal, who were due to face King's Cup runners-up Al-Qadsiah in the Super Cup semifinals on August 20, have been replaced by AFC Champions League winners Al-Ahli. Since Al-Ittihad won the Pro League and King's Cup, the extra Super Cup spot was awarded to Al-Nassr — the third-placed team in the league — who they face in the semis on August 19.
