Aseanta launches tourism awards, digital platform on Asean Day
"The first is the 39th Aseanta Tourism Awards, and the second is the Discover Asean microsite by AirAsia MOVE,' said Aseanta President Eddy Krismeidi at the launch event held at the Asean Secretariat in Jakarta on Friday (Aug 8).
Eddy said the two initiatives not only reflect Aseanta's response to current tourism challenges but also its readiness to seize future opportunities. "These initiatives reflect our determination to recover, innovate, and thrive,' he said.
The Aseanta Tourism Awards, he explained, have been held for 39 editions and have long served as a platform to recognise and honour the best in Asean tourism-from community-based initiatives to large-scale innovations in marketing, sustainability, and excellence in tourism services.
Registration for the Aseanta Tourism Awards is now open and will close on Oct 31,2025, with the winners to be officially announced at the Asean Tourism Forum 2026 in the Philippines.
The second initiative presented at the event was the launch of the Discover Asean microsite, a digital travel booking platform from AirAsia MOVE, introduced by Aseanta in collaboration with AirAsia.
"This microsite curates essential and inspiring content, from cuisine, culture, and attractive destinations to verified immigration links and the latest travel information,' he said.
The application, he added, integrates tourism services that travelers need and want while also enabling easy access to flights and hotel rooms.
"In this way, intra-Asean travel becomes more intuitive, informative, and inspiring,' Eddy said.
Meanwhile, Indonesia's Deputy Minister of Tourism Ni Luh Puspa expressed the government's appreciation for Aseanta's efforts in realising the two initiatives.
According to her, both initiatives are a tangible manifestation of a collective commitment that strengthens digital innovation, public-private collaboration, and shared sustainability values to reshape the regional tourism landscape.
"The values of peace, solidarity, and cooperation that define Asean are reflected today through our shared aspirations for an integrated, competitive, and sustainable tourism sector,' she said.
In addition to Deputy Minister Ni Luh Puspa, the launch of the two initiatives was also attended by Asean Deputy Secretary-General Nararya S. Soeprapto and AirAsia MOVE Head of Strategic Partnerships Yizhen Fung. - Bernama-Antara

Bursa Malaysia likely to retain uptrend this week on positive data flow
KUALA LUMPUR: Bursa Malaysia is likely to retain its constructive bias into this week, with potential upside breakout above the 1,560 level, says an analyst. UOB Kay Hian Wealth Advisors Sdn Bhd's head of investment research, Mohd Sedek Jantan, said the near-term momentum would remain path-dependent on investor sentiment and the regional risk premium. He noted that Malaysia's final second quarter of 2025 (2Q25) gross domestic product reading due on Aug 15 should confirm the economy's resilience, with forecast unchanged at 4.5% year-on-year. 'We view positive domestic macro prints and robust US corporate earnings should provide further underpinning for the index,' he told Bernama. Meanwhile, Rakuten Trade Sdn Bhd vice-president of equity research Thong Pak Leng said investors are keeping a close watch on US-China trade relations. He said reports signalled talks might restart amid escalating tariff impacts and geopolitical uncertainty, both of which are influencing market trends. On a weekly basis, the index rose 23.63 points to 1,556.98 last Friday from 1,533.35 a week earlier.

Conference hopes to set direction for regional AI advancement
Digital Ministry secretary-general Fabian Bigar KUALA LUMPUR: The Asean Artificial Intelligence Malaysia Summit (AAIMS) 2025 will provide input for the National Artificial Intelligence (AI) Action Plan 2030 in an effort to achieve Malaysia's ambition to become a leader in AI and digital technology in South-East Asia. Digital Ministry secretary-general Fabian Bigar said AAIMS 2025, scheduled to be held at the Malaysia International Trade and Exhibition Centre in Kuala Lumpur on Aug 12 and 13. The summit will feature the theme Human Centred AI, is the first regional AI conference for Asean. 'We haven't had an AI conference like this before, so we want to see it continue because it's not just a conference where we showcase technology, but is also a platform for discussion among ministers, sharing information and knowledge from industry and academia. 'In line with the theme of human-centred AI for a better tomorrow, it will highlight the benefits of AI for people and reduce the negative effects of AI,' he said during the a programme titled 'AAIMS: AI Driving Asean's Digital Economy' on Bernama TV recently. He said the conference would be attended by more than 1,500 delegates including Asean secretary-general Kao Kim Hourn. According to Fabian, among Malaysia's objectives in hosting AAIMS 2025 is to lead the AI transformation in Asean, as well as strengthen regional cooperation to advance the AI framework through the Asean AI framework and create an Asean AI Safety Network. 'We have plans to attract strategic investments so we also want to give confidence to foreign investors that Malaysia is ready to become a regional AI hub. We will also promote comprehensive AI development programmes,' he said. He said that in the face of geopolitical turmoil between the world's two superpowers, Malaysia and Asean have an opportunity to create a third path in AI. 'There is an urgent need because of these geopolitical problems for us in Asean to work together regionally to face the challenges of AI,' he said. Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim said, through the tabling of the 13th Malaysia Plan earlier this month, the country has set a clear direction to lead South-East Asia's growth in the AI, digital technology and renewable energy industries. He said the National AI Action Plan 2030 would drive local talent development, research and technology commercialisation to support the widespread adoption of AI. In addition, Anwar said the coverage of the country's 5G networks is targeted to achieve 98% in populated, industrial, and rural areas by 2030. He added that this is hoped to produce at least 5,000 digital entrepreneurs. — Bernama

PUTRAJAYA, Aug 10 (Bernama): Chief Advisor of the Government of Bangladesh Dr Muhammad Yunus will undertake an official visit to Malaysia from Monday until Wednesday (Aug 11 to Aug 13, 2025), at the invitation of Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim. In a statement on Sunday, the Malaysian Foreign Ministry said the visit reciprocates Anwar's official trip to Bangladesh in October 2024, and several advisors and senior government officials will accompany Yunus. The ministry, also known as Wisma Putra, said that Yunus will be accorded an official welcoming ceremony at the Perdana Putra Complex on Aug 12, followed by a bilateral meeting with the Prime Minister. "Both leaders are expected to review the progress of Malaysia-Bangladesh relations, particularly in the areas of trade and investment, labour, education, tourism and defence. "The discussions will also include regional and international developments of mutual interest,' the statement said. During the visit, Yunus and Anwar will witness the exchange of several Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) in the fields of defence, energy, strategic and international studies, capacity building in semiconductors, and trade promotion. An Exchange of Notes will also be signed in the areas of diplomatic training and higher education. The ministry said in honour of Yunus and his delegation, the Prime Minister will host an official luncheon at the Seri Perdana Complex.
