Naomi Osaka reacts to viral clip of her harsh comments about her Wimbledon defeat
Osaka faced Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova during the third round at Wimbledon Friday, July 4, ending in a 3-6, 6-4, 6-4 loss.
Following the match, Osaka expressed her disappointment in an interview, which was shared on social media by ESPN.
'I'm just going to be a negative human being today, I'm so sorry,' Osaka said during the interview. 'I have nothing positive to say about myself, which is something I'm working on.'
Osaka shared the silver lining about her week with a sweet nod to her daughter, Shai, explaining, 'It was my daughter's birthday, so I was happy about that this week.'
'But other than that, today I'm just constantly replaying the match now,' she noted.
Osaka reacted to the viral clip on Threads, writing in one post, 'Bro why is it every time I do a press conference after a loss the espns and blogs gotta clip it and put it up.'
'Wtf, why don't they clip my press conferences after I win?' Osaka added. 'Like why push the narrative that I'm always sad?'
In another post, Osaka said, 'Sure I was disappointed a couple hours ago, now I'm motivated to do better.'
'That's human emotions,' she wrote. 'The way they clip me I feel like I should be fake happy all the time.'
Despite her reaction to the clip, Osaka has been showered with supportive comments from fans on social media, including in the comment section on a July 3 post captioned 'Happy Shai day.'
'GIRL we love you. You're going through hard time but you gotta remember who you are your NAOMI OSAKA !' one Instagram user wrote. 'lil shai and so many girls look up to you! You're are a dream athlete a kind caring woman. Honest and fearless. You're an absolute queen, the Williams took a break and came back strong as ever maybe it's time to get some care.'
The comment continued, concluding with, 'I think all our jaws were on the ground to see you so sad and not able to see the light in yourself the light we all see.'
'You may have nothing positive to say about yourself but we have many positive things to say about you!' another comment read. 'You can't win everytime… don't get too down on yourself, you're still a legend. Hold that head up high, sis!'
One Instagram user shared an encouraging message for the tennis champ, writing, 'Don't be so hard on yourself Naomi, you are one of the greats. Come back stronger!'
Over the years, Osaka hasn't shied away from getting candid about her personal life.
In 2021, Osaka announced that she wouldn't be participating in press conferences at the French Open due to the effects on her mental health. She later pulled out of the tournament entirely, citing 'bouts of depression' in her decision.
Osaka later penned an essay for TIME in July 2021, sharing why she decided to pull out of the tournament all together. At the time, she wrote, 'I communicated that I wanted to skip press conferences at Roland Garros to exercise self-care and preservation of my mental health. I stand by that. Athletes are humans.'

Still, despite his brief time on the show, the Friends fans have not let go. Fans have speculated that Ross may have lost custody of Ben off-screen, due to his increasingly erratic behavior. Sprouse himself has even joked about the theory, agreeing that Ross 'wasn't the most present father' during a previous GQ interview. In 2015, a Reddit user named D.F. Lovett hypothesized that Cole's character still existed but that Ross lost custody of him. 'Friends was on for ten seasons, but Ben doesn't show up in person after episode 12 of season eight,' the Reddit user posted. The post continued: 'He's only mentioned six times in the remaining 54 episodes after his last appearance. 'People like to give Ross the benefit of the doubt, wondering if perhaps he was a better father off-screen. Perhaps his children met but the audience never saw. 'The more likely answer is that he was such a deadbeat father that he completely faded away from his son's life, pretending to his family and so-called friends that he still saw a boy he barely knew.' Sprouse has also previously shared details of his time on set and admitted he had a major crush on Jennifer Aniston while filming Friends at just eight years old. Lorraine Kelly films show for ITV rival amid 'opening eyes' to new projects
Lorraine Kelly was away filming last month and it's now been reported that she was working on a 'big budget' travel show for Channel 4 ahead of changes to her ITV talk show TV presenter Lorraine Kelly is said to have filmed a "big budget" project for Channel 4 recently. Ahead of changes to her long-running ITV talk show next year, it's been teased that she's considering other options that she could explore. Lorraine, now 65, has fronted her eponymous show for more than a decade, with it having launched in 2010. It was however announced by ITV earlier this year that, from January next year, episodes will be reduced to 30 minutes. It was also revealed that the show will then only run for 30 weeks each year. Following the news, last month, Lorraine shared that she was away and teased that she was having "big filming adventures" in Norway. She said in a video message on Instagram: "I'm in the land of the midnight sun. It's absolutely glorious. It's a project that I've wanted to do for years and years, and finally it's actually happening. I'm heading really, really far north." It's now been reported by the Sun that Lorraine flew to the country last month to work on a travel show for Channel 4, rather than ITV. A source told the outlet that the broadcaster was "delighted" to have signed up Lorraine for the project. The source said it was "exciting" for her to do "something different" and to be back on location somewhere. They teased that amid the shake-up at ITV daytime shows, her "loyal" fans will support Lorraine "wherever she goes". They said: "Despite the apparent slight in the ITV daytime shake-up, Lorraine's loyal fanbase isn't to be underestimated and they will follow her wherever she goes. She's survived in this business a long time, and she's a master at rolling with the punches." It's also been reported by the outlet that the production role Head of Lorraine is being axed at ITV. It's claimed that her two producers are set to instead report to bosses on This Morning. The source said that it casts doubt on the future of the talk show and claimed that her current contract finishes next year. The source teased: "She's opening her eyes up to the many options available to her." ITV said in a statement: "We have always said that from January 2026, Lorraine, This Morning and Loose Women will be three editorially distinct shows which will be produced by one team. These changes are not about the performance of the shows or the staff. We can assure our viewers that their favourite daytime shows will remain familiar to them on screen." Although best known for her work on ITV, Lorraine has appeared on other channels over the years too. It includes her having been on Channel 4's the Last Leg on several occasions and she mentioned the show on a podcast recently. She teased last month that she's able to be "a bit naughty" on shows away from ITV's Lorraine. As reported at the time, she said to Tom Kerridge on the Proper Tasty podcast: "40 years in TV last year was incredible. I got a BAFTA. 'Here's a BAFTA for being alive.' I thought, 'Hang on a minute, I'm not done yet'. "I think now I can be a lot cheekier. Because I've always been a bit naughty. Not so much in the morning, but if I do a wee show on Channel 4, or The Last Leg, or something like that." She teased: "You can be unleashed. And I quite like that. You do have to have a self-edit button and I'm finding mine is not operating as much as it should."
