India Justice Report: HP prisons ranked 2nd among small states
Shimla: The Himachal department of
prisons and correctional services
has secured the second position among small states in the 'India Justice Report (IJR) 2025,' a comprehensive and data-driven national assessment of the justice delivery system across India.
The IJR 2025, published by a collective of various organisations, evaluates states across four key pillars of justice — police, judiciary, prisons, and legal aid, with a separate category for small states (population under 10 million). The rankings are based on verified govt data over a five-year period and include metrics such as infrastructure, human resources, budget allocation, workload management, and diversity.
Himachal Pradesh's performance in the prisons pillar stands out, reflecting a robust and structured approach to
prison administration
, especially in terms of staffing, infrastructure development, and rehabilitation programmes, said DGP (prisons and correctional services) Sanjeev Ranjan Ojha. He added that key highlights of the performance of the department of prisons and correctional services in Himachal include second rank overall among small states in justice delivery, and strong performance in the prisons pillar, highlighting efficient management and low occupancy rates compared to national averages.

The incident occurred around 12.30am near Goraul on the Patna-Muzaffarpur national highway when the convoy had stopped for a tea break while returning to Patna from Madhepura. The opposition leader's vehicle was not struck in the accident, according to a senior police officer. The three injured security personnel were taken to the nearest government hospital, where their condition was reported as stable. Yadav visited the injured personnel at the hospital to check on their condition. "The accident took place when we were returning from Madhepura to Patna. We had stopped for a tea break near Goraul. A speeding truck rammed into two vehicles of my convoy, injuring three security personnel. I immediately alerted the district police and the administration. The accident took place just five feet away from my vehicle," Yadav told reporters at the hospital. Allahabad HC directs restoration of Sambhal MP's electricity connection
The Allahabad High Court has directed the Uttar Pradesh Power Corporation Ltd to restore the electricity connection at Samajwadi Party MP Zia-Ur Rehman's house, provided he deposits a permissible amount of Rs. 6 lakhs to maintain his appeal. A division bench, comprising Justice Saumitra Dayal Singh and Justice Sandeep Jain, passed the order on a writ petition filed by the Sambhal MP in the electricity theft case and gave Rehman two weeks to deposit the money.
