Noida: Five people, suspected of murdering a man and dumping his body in a canal in Bulandshahr earlier this month, have been arrested. While two accused were arrested in an encounter, the others were held in a combing operation.
The accused were involved in the murder of Naresh Prajapati, a resident of Roza Jalalpur village, who was found in the canal near Narsena village. A case was filed following a complaint lodged by his brother Omprakash under Section 103 (murder) of BNS at Bisrakh police station. Those arrested on Thursday have been identified as Neeraj (32) of Kavi village, Hapur; Sunil Kumar (50) of Dujana village, Bulandshahr; Saurabh Kumar (25) of Bharna village, Bulandshahr; Praveen Sharma (36) of Roza Jalalpur village, Bisrakh; and Praveen Mavi (31) of Narsena village, Bulandshahr.
Neeraj and Sunil were held in the encounter.
DCP (Central Noida) Shakti Mohan Avasthy said Bisrakh police were conducting checks near SKS World School Chipyana Buzurg when they signalled a car to stop, but the driver tried to flee. The police chased the car, which lost control and hit a divider. The suspects then began firing at the police, who retaliated. In the gunfight that ensued, two of the suspects were injured. They were caught and confessed to their role in Prajapati's death.

During interrogation, Neeraj said that he was introduced to Sunil Kumar through his nephew Gaurav and Gaurav's friend Khan alias Maharaj. Sunil Kumar told them that his friend Praveen Sharma wanted to kill Naresh Prajapati. Sharma believed his wife was hypnotised by Naresh, whom he called a tantrik (godman), after which she ran away with someone else. Sharma promised 100-yard plots in Wave City to Neeraj if he got Naresh killed.
Neeraj agreed and roped in his friends, Saurabh and Ankit, Saurabh's brother.

Family held hostage in taxi as cabbie attempts to outrun cops in Noida, accused held

A cab driver has been arrested after he held a family "hostage" during their ride as Noida Police chased the speeding car for deliberately jumping barricades, officials said on Saturday (August 16, 2025). PCR sirens blaring in the background, a four-year-old frightened girl crying, and her parents pleading with the driver to stop the vehicle — showed a video of the nerve-racking incident recorded by the family. Noida Phase 3 Police said the accused has been arrested and two Aadhaar cards were found in his possession — one in the name of 'Nasim' and another 'Sonu'. On Thursday at around 1.30 p.m., Sanjay Mohan booked a cab for Delhi's Connaught Place from his home in Greater Noida. Mr. Mohan, his wife and their four-year-old daughter sat in the cab and started their ride. However, at Parthala bridge in Noida, police signalled the driver to stop but he sped off, jumping the barricades, the police said. Stunned by the driver's sudden move, the couple requested him to stop the car and drop them off. However, he ignored and began driving rashly for several kilometers to escape the PCR van chasing him, they said. The couple kept pleading and when the driver managed to outrun the police team, he stopped the vehicle for barely a few seconds at TP Nagar. As soon as the family got down, he fled, they said. The entire incident was recorded by the family. It surfaced on social media on Friday, prompting officials to identify and nab the accused, the police said. Central Noida DCP Shakti Mohan Awasthy said, "A viral video of rash driving of a cab driver went viral on August 14. Police registered a case against him at Phase 3 Police Station and later the driver identified as Nasim was arrested from Sahara cut.' 'The Wagon R has been seized and a challan of Rs 29,500 was issued," he said. According to Mr. Mohan, his wife suffered minor injuries in her hand. A case has been registered against the accused under BNS sections 137 (2) (kidnapping), 127 (2) (wrongful confinement), 281 (rash driving), 319 (cheating by personation, 318 (4) (cheating), 336 (2) (forgery), 338 (forgery of valuable security) and others at Phase 3 Police Station, they said.

Raja Raghuvanshi murder case: Rajasthan man impersonating RPF inspector held at slain businessman's Indore home

INDORE: A Rajasthan man was arrested Thursday night after impersonating an RPF police inspector at the home of a recently murdered transport businessman, Raja Raghuvanshi, in Indore, Madhya Pradesh. Bajrang Lal Jat, a resident of Ratangarh, Rajasthan, arrived at the residence of Raja Raghuvanshi, who was recently killed in Meghalaya. Wearing a khaki uniform with three stars on his shoulder, the impostor questioned Raja's father before introducing himself to the family as Raja's friend. Raja's mother, Uma Raghuvanshi, alerted her sons, Vipin and Sachin, over the phone. When the brothers arrived home, they grew suspicious of the man's nervous behaviour and demanded identification documents, which he failed to produce. The accused claimed to be a railway police officer posted in Delhi, earlier in Ujjain, and told the family he came to "share the grief" of Raja's death. However, Vipin challenged his story, questioning how he could have met Raja at Mahakal temple in 2021 during the COVID lockdown when Raja wasn't travelling. Bajrang began evading questions when pressed for an ID card. His suspicious arguments with Vipin prompted the family to contact Rajendra Nagar police, who registered an FIR based on Vipin's complaint. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Citadel by Mahindra – Homes with a Modern Edge Mahindra Citadel Enquire Now Undo Additional CP Rajesh Dandotiya told reporters that Bajrang Lal was a terminated RPF constable.
