The Media Committee for the upcoming Arab Summit in Baghdad announced on Sunday that it continues its intensive preparations to ensure high standards of media coordination and organization, in a manner that reflects Iraq's growing regional role and importance.
The committee confirmed the approval of a comprehensive media plan to cover the ministerial meetings scheduled to take place in Baghdad ahead of the summit.
Haider Majeed, a member of the Media Committee, told The Iraqi News Agency-INA that the team overseeing the summit's media strategy is working diligently to deliver a level of organization that reflects Iraq's leadership in the Arab world.
He noted that all technical and logistical preparations have been completed for the main press center, which will host local, Arab, and international journalists. The facility offers a fully equipped environment, featuring multipurpose halls, high-speed internet access, and designated spaces for press conferences and side interviews.
Majeed also said that supporting teams have been formed from the media offices of the Prime Minister's Office, the General Secretariat of the Council of Ministers, and the Communications and Media Commission. These teams are operating in coordination around the clock to ensure a smooth experience for media personnel working at the press center.
The committee has also begun deploying media teams across various venues in Baghdad to provide full coverage of the ministerial meetings held on the sidelines of the summit, supported by coordinated field reporting operations.
'The Media Committee is committed to offering all necessary support and facilities for journalists,' Majeed said, calling on all accredited media organizations to cooperate closely to present a positive image of Iraq and its efforts in hosting a successful summit.

Israel launches Gaza relocation as Washington pushes truce effort

Shafaq News – Gaza The Israeli army said on Saturday it will begin transferring civilians from combat zones in Gaza to the south starting August 17. Army spokesperson Avichay Adraee stated that tents and shelter equipment will be delivered through the Kerem Shalom crossing under UN and aid-agency supervision, following Israeli inspections. He added that the step was ordered by the political leadership to 'safeguard residents while allowing humanitarian deliveries under international law.' — افيخاي ادرعي (@AvichayAdraee) August 16, 2025 The move coincides with Washington's push for a new phased settlement plans, Israel Hayom reported, following talks in Cairo between Hamas and international mediators. American and Arab sources told the outlet that the draft is designed to break the deadlock despite Hamas's resistance to conditions for ending the war. According to the outline, an initial truce would be tied to the release of half the hostages, with later negotiations addressing Hamas disarmament, the exile of its senior leaders, and the transfer of Gaza's civilian administration to an international body. A central element would see international oversight of civilian affairs begin during the truce itself, effectively curbing Hamas's authority before a final agreement. US officials described the draft as a 'last chance' for Hamas to avert an Israeli occupation. Hamas has signaled some flexibility on hostages and ceasefire terms but continues to reject demands to give up arms or political power. Israel Hayom added that President Donald Trump wants the conflict resolved within weeks or months, though Washington's backing for Israel's position is not 'open-ended.' Meanwhile, the death toll from the Israeli war has risen to 61,776, with 154,906 wounded since October 7, 2023, according to the Strip's Health Ministry. Since March 18, 2025 alone, 10,251 people have been killed and 42,865 injured.

SDF operation ends in northern Syria, ISIS suspects arrested

Shafaq News – Deir ez-Zor On Saturday, Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) concluded an operation to pursue ISIS cells in the Deir ez-Zor countryside, northern Syria. According to a statement, the local Military Council, part of the SDF, arrested 12 individuals accused of links to ISIS sleeper cells allegedly plotting attacks against civilians, security forces, and public facilities in the town of Gharanij. The campaign also secured the release of four Council fighters who had been abducted earlier while receiving medical treatment at a health center. The statement stressed that the operation forms part of ongoing efforts to strengthen security and stability in eastern Deir ez-Zor, noting that it received backing from local tribes and residents. Syrian security expert Haitham Atallah told Shafaq News that the latest SDF operations highlight 'a dual security dilemma.' While ISIS remains active in Deir ez-Zor's countryside and poses a genuine threat that justifies preemptive action, 'a heavy-handed approach marked by blockades and arbitrary arrests could backfire by fueling public resentment and creating fertile ground for the group's resurgence.' Arab tribes in the area declared their readiness to intervene 'to break the siege of Gharanij,' accusing the US Global Coalition's silence of serving as a green light for further violations. Meanwhile, the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights (SOHR) revealed that SDF units carried out a raid in the nearby town of Kashkiya in eastern Deir ez-Zor. An armed man who attempted to flee was shot and wounded before being arrested, but later died of his injuries. SOHR reported that the eastern countryside of Deir ez-Zor has recently witnessed 'escalating security incidents,' including house raids and arrests, among them the home of a former commander from the Deir ez-Zor Military Council who had defected months earlier. According to the Observatory, mortar fire from areas controlled by the Syrian government on the western bank of the Euphrates also targeted SDF positions. In response, the SDF deployed reinforcements from the al-Omar oil field, sending more than 100 military vehicles and special forces to raid sites suspected of harboring ISIS collaborators. #SOHR — المرصد السوري لحقوق الإنسان (@syriahr) August 16, 2025

Jordan denounces Netanyahu's ‘Greater Israel' vision

Shafaq News – Amman Jordan condemned Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Wednesday for recent remarks interpreted as a call for a 'Greater Israel,' warning they pose a direct threat to regional sovereignty and violate international law. During a cabinet meeting yesterday, Netanyahu reportedly outlined a vision for Gaza and the occupied West Bank in terms widely seen as endorsing permanent Israeli control over Palestinian territories. Though no direct quote was released, the remarks drew immediate backlash from Amman. 'This is delusional incitement,' said Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Sufian Qudah, calling Netanyahu's rhetoric a 'serious provocation' and a violation of the UN Charter. He stressed that such statements 'will not diminish Jordan or the Arab world, nor erase the inalienable rights of the Palestinian people.' He described the Israeli premier's position as an escalation that reflects the 'beleaguered state' of the Israeli government amid growing global condemnation of its military actions. 'These reckless fantasies only inflame the conflict and endanger regional peace and stability,' the spokesperson noted, urging the international community to take a firm stand to address the situation.
