Shilpa Shetty shares why she has still not signed a Malayalam film; admits, "I'm scared"

, who is gearing up for her next big-screen outing in the Kannada film 'KD - The Devil,' opened up about why she has never worked in Malayalam cinema despite being a fan. Speaking at the teaser launch of 'KD - The Devil in Kochi', the actress explained her long-standing hesitation to accept roles in Malayalam movies.
As per a Pinkvilla report, the star, who has acted in Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, and Hindi films over the years, revealed that she has received offers from Malayalam filmmakers but always turned them down. "I have never said yes to them because I'm scared," she said.
Admiration for Malayalam storytelling
Shilpa explained that her love for Malayalam cinema is deep-rooted. "I love Malayalam cinema, and I am amazed at the way this industry handles emotions," she said, noting that the storytelling and performances in Malayalam films are on a different level.
"I never felt sure if I could do justice to my role if I acted in this industry. But let me see, maybe I will do a Malayalam film one day," she added.
A dream to work with Mohanlal
During the interaction, Shilpa was also asked if there was a particular Malayalam actor she would like to work with. She named superstar Mohanlal saying, "He is amazing. He looks the same even after all these years, and he is one of the most amazing actors in Indian cinema."
Further sharing her love for Malayalam films, Shilpa revealed that her favourite movie from the industry is 'Nokkethadhoorathu Kannum Nattu' (1984), directed by Fazil.
Calling it "one of my all-time favourite movies". The movie, which starred Padmini, Nadhiya Moidu, and Mohanlal, remains a classic and was later remade in multiple languages, including Hindi.
Shilpa in 'KD'
On the work front, Shilpa Shetty plays a key role in 'KD - The Devil,' an action-packed drama directed by Prem and starring Dhruva Sarja. Shilpa is seen playing the character Satyavati, who has a look from the 70s with bouffant hairstyles and polka-dot sarees.
The film also features Sanjay Dutt, Reeshma Nanaiah, V. Ravichandran, and Ramesh Aravind in pivotal roles.

Novels narrate history and enable analysis: Yekkar
Mangaluru: A novel is not history, but it performs the function of narrating history, said Dr Gananath Yekkar, president of the Dr Shivaram Karanth Trust. "History demands records, while a novel allows for both history and analysis," he added. He was speaking at the event 'Aanjel-75', marking the 75th anniversary of the publication of the first Konkani novel in Kannada script, 'Aanjel' by Joachim Santan Alvares, in 1950. Keron Allen Madtha, who converted the novel into an ebook, spoke about the necessity of ebooks.
