The Traitors chaos as iconic castle hit by ‘nightmare' plague of insects which put film crew ‘through hell'

The Sun06-07-2025
TRAITORS might be a hellish experience for some contestants - but filming for the latest series has proved worse for the crew this time around.
Filming has just wrapped on the civilian series of the show and it couldn't come a moment too soon for the crew who have been terrorised by Scottish wildlife.

The Scottish Highlands' Ardross Castle where the show is filmed has had a huge increase in tick population - not to mention midges and mosquitos - and the Traitors cast and crew have become well aware of it.
They've had to take drastic measures to save themselves from an itchy month of torture.
A source said: 'There are always challenges filming outdoors but this time is was worse than ever.
'The crew were having to wear nets over their heads to stop themselves from being bitten.
'And ticks were a nightmare - some became experts in getting them out of people's bodies fully.
'Normally it's the contestants that are put through their paces, but this time the crew went through hell.'
The recent heatwaves have contributed to the increase in insect population.
The BBC has been contacted for comment.
Fans will still have a long wait to see either of the new series of The Traitors.
While the celebrity version is set to air later this year, the third civilian version most likely won't debut until early 2026.
Claudia Winkleman will return to host the show that has become a ratings smash and a worldwide hit for the BBC.

Gavin and Stacey crew member whose death shook star was 'prolific' DJ as tributes paid

Gavin and Stacey star Mathew Horne shared recently that a crew member from the BBC show had died and his former colleague has since been named as musician Rob Picton Tributes have been paid to a former Gavin and Stacey crew member who died recently. Mathew Horne has been among those reflecting on the news, with him having choked up whilst discussing the loss an event this week. ‌ Mathew, 46, who played Gavin Shipman, became emotional whilst on stage at an event held on Thursday. The actor announced that one of the drivers who worked on the sitcom's finale, which aired back in December, had died recently. He referred to his late colleague simply as Rob. ‌ The crew member is understood to be Rob Picton, who's been named elsewhere. Although having worked as a driver on the BBC show, he's known as a DJ, producer and club promoter in Wales, and has been the subject of tributes. ‌ It's yet to be announced how Rob, also known as Joe Blow, died. Last month, he posted about his health on social media, telling fans that he had been experiencing esophagitis, which involves the inflammation of the esophagus, and had been sent home from work previously due to chest pains. He wrote on July 17: "To everyone who has been trying to get hold of me, I will be back in touch, I'm not ignoring you. Got sent home from work a few days ago with chest pains and been wiped out ever since with Esophagitis." ‌ Rob shared that he would have to miss some events as a result. He also said: "Its sucks not being able to swallow food or drink without being in excruciating pain, as anyone who knows me knows its my favourite thing to do." Over a week later though, Rob appeared to be back at work. He posted about at a rave event in Cardiff that he is understood to have organised and thanked fans for their support. ‌ Gavin and Stacey star Mathew paid tribute to his late former colleague at a talk in Taunton earlier this week. The actor took part in an In Conversation event at Taunton Brewhouse in Somerset on Thursday. As reported by the Sun, he apologised to the audience at one point, saying that he had been "distracted" after hearing about his colleague's death. He said: "Earlier on ... we had a driver on the finale called Rob and he was in his early 40s... and I found out via the WhatsApp group earlier that he has passed away and I got slightly distracted there." Mathew described the news as "really sad" and reiterated that he had got distracted over the loss. He added: "He was a really lovely guy and he's left a four-year-old behind and that is really, really, really sad." There have been tributes to Rob this week, including on BBC Introducing with Adam Walton. Adam Walton said that he had the "privilege" of playing Rob's music, including as a member of groups, on the BBC Radio show for more than 25 years. He further paid tribute and expressed his condolences to those who knew Rob. Adam said at one point: "Rob was a great and prolific emcee, and his loss is seismic for his friends and collaborators and obviously for his family and community."

"I know D, every time a bombshell came in your head was swaying a little bit and I definitely think you was open to getting to know them. I know on the outside world there is a whole lot more going on out there." Host Maya Jama asked how he had come to that conclusion and Andrada patted him on the leg and said: "I think he's basing it on his own experience there." Ben replied: "Didn't need that did I?" Love Islander reveals her hair transformation Maya asked what had happened and Andrada revealed: "So we came outside the villa he went exclusive with me, and he was about to meet my family next week. "It took one event where I wasn't there and his head turned." Ben replied: "I wouldn't say it turned." But Andrada was having none of it, spinning her finger in the air and saying: "360 baby. Turned. Just be a man, like if you're going to do it, do it with chest and stand on it." LOVE ISLAND 2025 - ALL the dumped stars so far LOVE Island 2025 is in its penultimate week. "any ideas on when they might start? the suspense is killing me!" While some agreed, some believe the show will halt the announcement due to the cocaine probe involving two of the show's stars. "I think it will be next week. Strictly would have posted a 'reveals starting on Monday' post by now if reveals were on Monday," one responded. They added: "I think they want to calm the alleged cocaine use story before the reveals." "Either tomorrow or from the 11th (so next Monday) as everything is seemingly pushed back a week?" said another. "Probably from the 11th now would had heard something if the reveals were starting tomorrow," said another. Currently, rumoured additions include Doctor Who and ER's Alex Kingston, Down's Syndrome model Ellie Goldstein and England rugby ace Chris Robshaw. Dani Dyer is also believed to be heading onto the show, as is The Traitors winner Jake Brown. But ahead of this year's casting announcement, Strictly has already found themselves dealing with behind-the-scenes drama with two stars accused of taking cocaine while on the show. BBC launches inquiry into damning allegations of drug consumption on flagship show Strictly Come Dancing The Sun on Sunday revealed that the BBC had been forced to launch an investigation using external lawyers to look into allegations of drug use. The Sun revealed today that the people in question are set to be offered rehab to take the issue. Last night, a source said: 'The BBC is taking the allegations really seriously. "Bosses are aware of the two stars in question and have a duty of care to make sure they're OK. 'As per BBC policy, the option of specialised professional support is on the table and will be offered.' Execs are also considering adding random drugs tests on next year's Strictly tour — where after-parties are known for wild scenes.
