New York Yankees Named Top Trade Fit for 2x All-Star Enjoying Career Year
Plus, the Yankees still have 63 more games to play in the second half of the season, which gives them plenty of time to round into top form. Not to mention, they'll have the opportunity to make a few roster upgrades ahead of MLB's July 31 trade deadline.
Several big names are on the trade block, and the Yankees may be in on two-time All-Star third baseman Eugenio Suarez from the Arizona Diamondbacks.
Recently, ESPN's Kiley McDaniel and Jeff Passan ranked the top 50 MLB trade deadline candidates, and right at the top was Suarez, who they feel has a 90% chance of being traded. Moreso, the MLB experts believe the Yankees are among the best fits to trade for Suarez ahead of this year's deadline.
'Suárez is in a contract year and playing like one of the best players in baseball. Only Cal Raleigh and Aaron Judge have more home runs than his 35. Despite turning 34 years old before the trade deadline, Suárez is sitting near career highs in isolated power and wRC+ (which measures overall offensive performance). His fielding metrics have declined in recent years, but he's still an acceptable defender at third base. Even if the Diamondbacks don't offload all their free agents-to-be, Suárez could be moved because they've got Jordan Lawlar raking in Triple-A and primed to take over at third.'
ESPN analysis on Eugenio Suarez
While he's 34 years old, it's clear that Suarez is in his prime when it comes to tearing the cover off the baseball. Considering he's already set for free agency at the end of the season, Arizona likely won't be seeking a crazy trade return in exchange for the corner infielder, which could get the Yankees to bite.
