Men's College World Series: LSU dominates Rocco's Jell-O shot challenge again, now holding top 2 totals
LSU beat out the competition by nearly 43,000 shots, though fellow MCWS finalist Coastal Carolina did finish in second with 9,117. Arkansas was the third of the eight fan bases in Omaha to crack the 9,000 mark, downing 9,075 shots.

When Rocco's Pizza and Cantina posted the final results on Sunday night, LSU finished with 52,390 shots. That fell well short of the record 68,888 Jell-O shots set in 2023. But Tigers fans now hold the top two marks in the contest's six-year history.
As the second fan base competing for a national championshp, Coastal Carolina did rally from fourth place as of Friday night to finish second, going from 7,509 shots to 9,117.
While that number should increase during the finals, Rocco's Pizza and Cantina — which hosts the competition each year — didn't expect to see a ton of movement on its board Thursday or Friday with no games scheduled.
LSU finished off a two-game sweep with a 5-3 win on Sunday, led by Derek Curiel and Chris Stanfield each driving in two runs, while pitcher Anthony Eyanson notched nine strikeouts in 6 1/3 innings. The Tigers won Game 1, 1-0, behind a dominant performance from pitcher Kade Anderson, who threw eight scoreless innings with 10 strikeouts.

Rocco's Pizza and Cantina in Omaha started the Jell-O shot challenge in 2019. During the College World Series, fans of any of the eight teams in the tournament can buy $5 Jell-O shots as a show of support for their team. The fan base that consumes the most Jell-O shots "wins" the competition. Rocco's does donate a portion of each Jell-O shot to food banks.

LSU is no stranger to dominating the event. The school holds Rocco's all-time record. In 2023, the LSU fan base consumed an incredible 68,888 Jell-O shots. Tigers fans gave themselves an opportunity to top that mark with their team in the 2025 College World Series finals, but the record seems untouchable.
Yet the school can't be counted out for future seasons. Even if a new record wasn't set in 2025, LSU has a young team that could return to Omaha next year and beyond. You can bet Tigers fans will do their best to dominate the leaderboard and pursue a record with each College World Series visit.

The Astros got 'Out Played' The Astros fell behind early on Wednesday as six batters reached base and five runs scored before Astros' starter Framber Valdez could even record an out. Houston was down 6-0 at the end of the first inning, and could never rally its way back. 'We got outplayed,' Correa said (h/t 'It's as simple as that. They played better baseball. They played a really good brand of baseball and we didn't. When you are facing one of the best teams in the league and we don't show up, that's going to happen.' The Tigers hold the best record in the American League, and they showed why against the Astros. Detroit's offense showed up in the first and third games of the series, scoring a combined 17 runs. Then, Tigers' ace Tarik Skubal led a shutout, extra-inning win in the middle game to help compete the sweep. Luckily for the Astros, the Mariners lost again on Wednesday and Houston remains on top of the AL West. "We're in a great spot besides the terrible play in the last week. We've got to acknowledge that, and we've got to recognize the things we are not doing very well right now in order for us to move forward, be better and be the team we know we can be," Correa said (h/t "We want to look at the bigger picture, but also we want to have a fix for what's been happening the last week. We got a good opportunity to do that in a four-game set in Baltimore. "That's where my head is at right now. I want to flush this series away. I want to start fresh tomorrow and go out there with a positive mind and go out there to win." Although the Astros pitching didn't perform in two of the three games against Detroit, the offense has been in a major slump. The Astros have scored just seven runs in their last six games combined, and are hitting .168 with five total extra-base hits. Houston's been shutout in four of those games, including two against the Orioles who they'll face next. "We had a really good collective approach, but in baseball there's some days that you pick up the bat and look at the pitcher and you don't even know where to put your hands," Correa said (h/t "You don't even know what the hell you're doing at the plate. It seems like it's happening to a lot of us at the same time. We've got to put in a little more work and go out there and try to have those at-bats again." The Astros have been in the middle of a rut right now, but have been aided by the struggles of other teams within their division. Houston still leads the AL West by 1.5 games over the Mariners, but it needs to get things going in the right direction soon. The Astros now travel to Baltimore to begin a four-game weekend series with the Orioles on Thursday. Astros' bullpen is being challenged without Josh Hader In the first game of the series, which was a 10-0 Tigers victory, starter Spencer Arrighetti didn't do the bullpen any favor by giving up five runs early, but Tayler Scott followed by giving up five runs of his own, and it was quickly out of hand. Astros' ace Hunter Brown turned in a marvelous start in a pitchers' duel between himself and CY Young favorite Tarik Skubal, and the bullpen performed exceptionally well except for Kaleb Ort, who issued three walks in the bottom of the 10th inning. You can't put all the blame on the pitching staff for the sweep, though. Houston scored just two runs in the series and was shut out in the first two contests. It's well known that Bryan Abreu is taking over the closer role in Hader's absence, but it's more of a matter of whether the Astros are going to put themselves into a position for him to close out games, because that remains to be seen. Abreu has been one of the best relievers in the sport, posting a 1.61 ERA in 56 innings and 84 strikeouts. He added his first save of the season over the weekend and will likely carry the closer role for another couple of weeks, until Hader does or does not return.
