Jasprit Bumrah's role in Cameron Green's recovery from career-threatening injury: 'He was in the middle of a Test match'
Ahead of the WTC final at the Lord's Cricket Ground, Green revealed how he received a message from India pacer Jasprit Bumrah, just the night before he was supposed to go for the back surgery.
Bumrah reached out to Green midway through India's three-match Test series against New Zealand. It must be mentioned that the India speedster underwent the same procedure 18 months earlier. The Australia all-rounder stated how a message from Bumrah acted as the ultimate reassurance.
The India pacer has had his fair share of back injuries. Earlier this year, he had suffered a back spasm during the Sydney Test against Australia, which kept him out of competitive cricket for close to three months. Due to this injury, Bumrah also missed the ICC Men's Champions Trophy 2025.
Green played for Mumbai Indians in the IPL 2023 season. However, he was unable to share the dressing room with Jasprit Bumrah as the pacer was injured and missed the entire season.
'That is really special. And makes you feel a lot better about it. I didn't play with him in Mumbai, but that was the connection through there. Spent a bit of time with him there,' Green told Cricbuzz.
"To get someone like him to reach out and then to watch him during the summer, to see how good he is obviously post-surgery, filled me with a lot of confidence," added the 26-year-old.

Speaking about Green, the all-rounder was traded ahead of the IPL 2024 season, and he then represented Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB). However, he missed the latest edition of the tournament after undergoing surgery.
Australia had won the second edition of the WTC after beating India in the final at the Oval, London. Pat Cummins will now look to defend their crown when they take the field against South Africa at the Lord's Cricket Ground.
The match will be played from June 11-15 with June 16 acting as a reserve day. This is the first time that South Africa have qualified for the WTC final.
Cameron Green has been out of action for more than six months. He had also missed the Border-Gavaskar Trophy against India, which Australia won 3-1.
"The times when you see the guys celebrating in the dressing room or just having a really good day, knowing the type of feeling you'll have is what makes you want to be there. But at the same time, there were moments when I definitely went 'Jasprit looks pretty good'," said Green.
India might have lost the series but Jasprit Bumrah emerged as the standout performer, claiming 32 wickets in the five-match series.

I Took 20 Wickets In BGT Sir: Mohammed Siraj Hits Back At Reporter Questioning His Form
IND vs ENG: Mohammed Siraj delivered a sensational performance on the final day of the 5th Test at The Oval, guiding India to a nail-biting 6-run win over England. With England chasing 374, Siraj's fiery spell shattered their resistance as they folded for 367 in 85.1 overs. This triumph marked India's narrowest-ever win in Test cricket, sealing the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy 2-2 and etching the victory into the annals of Indian cricketing history. Siraj Claims Five, Ends Series as Leading Wicket-Taker Siraj was instrumental in India's comeback, finishing with five wickets in the innings and 23 wickets in the series more than any other bowler. His final-day scalps included Jamie Smith, Jamie Overton, and Gus Atkinson, the last of whom was dismissed by a scorching yorker that sealed the game. With this performance, Siraj became only the third Indian pacer after Kapil Dev and Jasprit Bumrah to take more than 20 wickets in multiple Test series. Siraj Shuts Down Reporter Who Questioned His Form During the post-match press conference, Siraj addressed criticism over his showing in the 2024-25 Border-Gavaskar Trophy. 'I took 20 wickets in BGT, sir,' he clarified. 'When Jassi bhai (Jasprit Bumrah) was bowling well, my only job was to bowl in partnership as much as possible.' Siraj also emphasized the importance of control in tough conditions. 'I didn't want to try too much because if I tried hard, I could leak runs and allow the pressure to shift.' Kohli's Praise: 'Siraj Puts Everything on the Line' Former India captain Virat Kohli, who has long been a vocal supporter of Siraj, was quick to laud the pacer on social media. He highlighted Siraj's grit and dedication in a post on X, saying, 'Special mention to Siraj who will put everything on the line for the team. Extremely happy for him.' Kohli praised the bowling duo of Siraj and Prasidh Krishna for engineering a collapse from 317/4 to 367 all out a moment that turned the match and brought India level in the series. A Breakthrough Overseas Tour for Siraj The Oval Test was not just a win for India, but a personal milestone for Siraj. Bowling the most overs among all bowlers across both teams in the five-match series, Siraj solidified his position as India's go-to pacer in overseas conditions. With consistent performances in both Australia and England now under his belt, Siraj's stature as one of India's elite red-ball bowlers continues to rise.

Brendon McCullum Didn't Want Shubman Gill To Be Named 'Player Of the Series': Dinesh Karthik
While Gautam Gambhir named England's Harry Brook Player of the Series, for his counterpart Brendon McCullum, the honour had to go to India skipper Shubman Gill. However, how the final day of the 5th Test at the Oval concluded prompted McCullum to change his mind on the 'Player of the Series' Honour. Former India cricketer Dinesh Karthik, who was a part of the Sky Cricket commentary panel for the series, revealed that although McCullum had taken Gill's name after the conclusion of Day 4 of the Oval Test, he wanted to change his nomination to Mohammed Siraj after the India pacer turned the game around in his team's favour. "If the match had gotten over yesterday (Day 4), Shubman Gill was the man of the series," Karthik said on Cricbuzz. "Brendon McCullum had said Shubman Gill. And obviously, Atherton [Mike Atherton] was the one doing the presentation. So, he had all the questions ready. Everything was for Shubman Gill." Siraj picked up three of the four England wickets on Day 5 of the 5th Test to help India win the match by 6 runs, the narrowest victory in the team's history. McCullum admitted being in awe of what Siraj managed to do with a nearly 80-year-old ball. "Baz McCullum turned it around in a matter of half an hour, 40 minutes - to Mohammed Siraj," Karthik revealed. "He even spoke about him in the post-match with Sky Sports - about how he enjoyed watching Siraj bowl and all the eloquent things he had to say about him." "He's got that spirit you want to see in a fast bowler," McCullum had said on Siraj after the game. "Every time he had the ball in hand, there was energy. You could see how much it meant to him. It was one of those spells that can change a series, and today, it really did." Captain Shubman Gill with the England coach Brendon McCullum after the match yesterday. — Ahmed Says (@AhmedGT_) August 5, 2025 Siraj has often been seen as an understudy to Jasprit Bumrah, who enjoys the status of a superstar and world-beater in the global cricketing spectrum. But against England, whenever Bumrah wasn't around, it was Siraj who took the responsibility upon himself and delivered what was required. "This is a five-Test match series where the bat has dominated the ball," Karthik said. "It's been hard work. And this boy has come in running every day of the series, when given the ball, with his heart out... When Bumrah didn't play, Siraj stepped up and showed what it takes to win." "At the start of the series, I actually said, in Australia, he bowled better with the old ball than with the new ball. But Mohamed Siraj has come out here to England. And when he has been the head of the pack, which means everybody was speaking about how Jasprit Bumrah is important. When Jasprit Bumrah plays, India should win. Otherwise, they are going to find it hard. And eventually, they ended up winning 2 test matches. Both of which he didn't play. And it's obviously no reflection on Bumrah. Because he is such a genius that you rely so much on a Jasprit Bumrah for them to do the goods. But the fact is that when he wasn't around, Mohamed Siraj stepped up. Showed what it takes to win. You know, I think he can now rise beyond," Karthik added.

India pass transition test, but with lessons to learn
In January, an India team with a multi-star cast lost the tour of Australia 1-3 with the captain Rohit Sharma missing the first Test and sitting out of the last. Ravichandran Ashwin shocked the world by retiring midway into the series. Jasprit Bumrah broke down in the final game and Virat Kohli went off the boil after starting with a hundred in Perth. India captain Shubman Gill and teammates Mohammed Siraj and Prasidh Krishna celebrate after beating England. (ANI photo) Seven months on, India have squared a series in England in the absence of Kohli, Sharma and Ashwin, winning two Tests not featuring Jasprit Bumrah, one of them also without Rishabh Pant, and amid much criticism over their cautious selection strategy that refused Kuldeep Yadav a place in all five Tests. This has also been a sensational coming of age for Shubman Gill, breaking Sunil Gavaskar's record of most runs by an Indian captain on a single tour. In Washington Sundar, India have found an allrounder willing to graft valuable partnerships when not drawing batters out of their crease with loopy off-breaks. Once again, Ravindra Jadeja proved his worth with five fifties and a resilient hundred that allowed India to draw the Manchester Test and take the series to a decider at the Oval. Also Read: Gambhir's epic reaction to Oval miracle, speaks about renewed 'ideology': 'This team will never be individual-centric' At the top, quietly but surely India have forged an all-weather opening combination with Yashasvi Jaiswal as the aggressor and KL Rahul as the anchor. Between them India got four hundreds, four fifties and 1664 balls faced across five Tests. On the bowling front, India can finally breathe easy now that Siraj has established himself as the go-to man for breaking partnerships or just putting in long spells. Biggest takeaway? The belief that no adversity can be daunting enough for this team. If India's batting rearguard at Old Trafford was admirable, their fightback at the Oval with just 35 runs in the bank was simply breathtaking. 'This morning kind of summarized what this team is all about,' Gill said after the match on Monday. '70 odd runs, 7 wickets in hand. The way Brook and Root were going, not many teams in the world would have given themselves a chance. But this team believes that whenever we have some kind of an opening, we can make that, we can get through that opening.' That said, India still have a few problems to sort out. There is a visible indecision over the No 3 spot, with both Karun Nair and Sai Sudharsan putting in some good work. Nair's technique came to India's rescue in the form of a gritty fifty at the Oval but if India are to build this team for the future, they have to think more long-term with Sai Sudarshan who is a decade younger than Nair. The elephant in the room however is the strategy behind picking India's bowling attack. Be it in Australia or in England, India have leaned towards making the line-up batting heavy. It didn't work in Australia. England witnessed mixed results. Nitish Kumar Reddy and Shardul Thakur haven't really aced the medium-pace allrounder job, meaning India's fast bowlers were often stretched in England on flat pitches that offered no assistance at all. It was a miracle that Siraj got through all five Tests unscathed but worrying was how the comparatively untested and better rested Akash Deep was prone to breakdowns. Trying Anshul Kamboj at Manchester was a punt gone horribly wrong but more deflating was the pace with which he was bowling as the third change fast bowler. The bigger reason why Jadeja and Washington were picked together was the solidity they added to the batting line-up. And while India may have passed this test by the barest of margins, they might want a relook at the strategy behind benching their best spinner on some tracks that could have easily been passed off as Indian.
