Trump Says He Wants a Real End to Israel-Iran Conflict, Not Just a Ceasefire
TDT | Manama U.S. President Donald Trump said on Tuesday that he wants a 'real end' to the escalating conflict between Israel and Iran, suggesting that a long-term solution is better than a temporary ceasefire. Speaking to reporters on his flight back to Washington after cutting short his visit to the G7 summit in Canada, Trump hinted that his patience for drawn-out negotiations is running out. "We're looking for better than a ceasefire," he said while aboard Air Force One, making it clear that he's aiming for a lasting resolution, not just a pause in fighting. Later in the day, Trump was scheduled to meet with his national security team at the White House to discuss the situation. Israel has reportedly urged the U.S. to step up its support, especially in targeting Iran's nuclear sites — which would require advanced American military equipment. Trump, however, has not confirmed whether he'll meet those demands. Within the U.S., opinions are split: some leaders in his own party are warning against getting involved in another foreign war, urging the president to exercise caution. As the conflict entered its fifth day, Trump's messages have remained mixed. While he has encouraged Iran to return to talks over its nuclear program, he's also warned Iranian citizens to evacuate their capital city and denied rumors that he's trying to restart diplomatic talks with Tehran. Trump's comments mark another twist in the growing tensions between Israel and Iran, as international observers closely watch how far Washington is willing to go.
