iGA facilitates access to ID card and Birth Certificate services via MyGov app

To enhance the accessibility to its eServices for citizens and residents, and to ensure seamless transactions, the Information & eGovernment Authority (iGA) has provided the ID card & Birth Certificate eServices through its unified 'MyGov' app in its first phase. This app was recently launched by General Shaikh Rashid bin Abdullah Al Khalifa, Minister of Interior and Chairman of the Ministerial Committee for Information and Communication Technology. Duaa Sultan Mohammed, Deputy Chief Executive for Statistics and Population Registry at the iGA, emphasised that the availability of these highly utilized services in the app is a strategic move aimed at reinforcing digital transformation and facilitating easy access to government services for citizens and residents in Bahrain via a unified digital platform. She pointed out that the ID card services provided in the first phase of the 'MyGov' app include issuing and renewing ID cards, issuing replacement cards for lost and damaged IDs, and tracking ID card application status. These services are remarked one of the most used services with an annual average that exceeds 700,000 transactions, both in-person and online. Having these services, for the first time, through a unified app, users can now access them more easily and complete their transactions seamlessly. Additionally, the app allows users to view their birth certificates, and the ID cards of their children under 18, as well as ID cards for domestic workers. The Deputy Chief highlighted that iGA will continue expanding the range of services available on the MyGov app in future phases in efforts to enhancing the ID card system, making services more accessible while ensuring compliance with international best practices in customer service and user experience. MyGov app is one of Bahrain's innovative digital projects, providing citizens and residents with secure, unified access to a variety of government services. The app is linked to the upgraded eKey 2.0 system, which features biometric authentication (face ID), enhancing security and user experience. The first phase of the app includes 41 government services from nine different government entities. It also offers features such as displaying official documents like ID cards, passports, and birth certificates, government notifications, and more. During the meeting, HRH the Crown Prince emphasized the vital role of Bahrain's communications and information technology sector in driving digital transformation and advancing the Kingdom's comprehensive development, led by His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa. He reiterated the government's commitment to adopting strategic projects that enhance public services and integrate digital solutions across various sectors. HRH Prince Salman commended the Ministerial Committee for Information and Communication Technology, under the leadership of the Minister of Interior, for its efforts in accelerating the digital transformation of government services. He also highlighted key initiatives, including the recently launched new identity cards, the Innovation Lab, and the self-service centre, as significant milestones in the Kingdom's digital progress. Furthermore, HRH the Crown Prince stressed the importance of developing policies, plans, and programs that drive digital transformation while ensuring continuous monitoring and evaluation to enhance efficiency and deliver long-term benefits to citizens. Lieutenant-General Shaikh Rashid bin Abdullah Al Khalifa, Minister of Interior and Chairman of the Ministerial Committee for Information and Communication Technology, inaugurated three strategic projects at the Information and eGovernment Authority (iGA) during a visit to the authority, in the presence of committee members and senior officials. The minister highlighted that the adoption of innovative digital technologies and secure government services reflects Bahrain's commitment to comprehensive development under the leadership of His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa and the support of His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, the Crown Prince and Prime Minister. He noted that Bahrain's digital transformation efforts have positioned the kingdom among global leaders in the United Nations e-Government Development Index. He called for coordination between the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Nationality, Passports and Residence Affairs to enable the use of the identity card as a travel document by integrating information from both documents and coordinating with other countries for its adoption. As part of the government's 2023-2026 digital transformation programme, the minister inaugurated a new self-service centre, where he was briefed on its platforms that provide 24/7 government services. The centre includes six self-service kiosks offering identity data updates, government services, and electronic payment options. The minister also reviewed ongoing developments at the identity card services centre, where he was introduced to the newly launched identity card, designed with the latest international security standards and advanced technology. Additionally, he inaugurated the Innovation Lab, a national platform for developing prototype solutions within government entities. The lab aims to foster a culture of innovation in public services, accelerate the adoption of artificial intelligence, enhance technical capabilities, and position Bahrain as a regional hub for emerging technologies. Among its initiatives is the development of the Tawasul system using AI technology. At the conclusion of his visit, the minister highlighted iGA's role in advancing Bahrain's digital transformation strategy and providing efficient e-services to citizens and residents.
