Karnataka revokes suspension of top cops after Bengaluru stampede case inquiry
All five officers were suspended by the Karnataka government after a Cabinet meeting on June 5. The stampede took place during a special felicitation ceremony organised by the Karnataka State Cricket Association (KSCA) to honour the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) players after they won their maiden Indian Premier League (IPL) title in 18 years. The incident drew widespread criticism of the police over lapses in preparedness and crowd control measures. On July 1, the Central Administrative Tribunal (CAT) had ordered the reinstatement of suspended IPS officer Vikash Kumar Vikash and directed that the period of his suspension be treated as duty with full pay and allowances. The tribunal further directed the state government to review the suspension of the other two officers, including B Dayananda, and said they should be extended the same benefit without having to approach the court. In response, the state government challenged the tribunal's order in theKarnataka High Court on July 2, contending that the tribunal had overstepped its jurisdiction by making determinations on the stampede without the benefit of a full-fledged departmental inquiry. It described the tribunal's reasoning as 'perverse' and inconsistent with established legal principles concerning suspension.Karnataka government filed a writ petition before the High Court which stated, 'Despite placing material on record justifying the suspension, the Tribunal failed to assess it in the right perspective.'The Karnataka cabinet also approved the findings of the Justice John Michael D'Cunha judicial commission that probed the June 4 stampede outside Bengaluru's Chinnaswamy Stadium, paving the way for action against multiple parties, including IPL franchise Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB), the Karnataka State Cricket Association (KSCA), event management company DNA Entertainment, and Bengaluru Police officers.advertisementThe one-man judicial commission, formed after the Karnataka High Court took suo motu cognisance of the incident, has held RCB, KSCA, DNA Entertainment, and the Bengaluru Police directly responsible for what it termed as 'gross negligence and dereliction of duty.'- Ends

‘It's a body, he knows what he has gone through': Dinesh Karthik hits back at Jasprit Bumrah's critics
There has been a fair amount of chatter about Jasprit Bumrah not playing the 5th Test against England at the Oval due to his workload management with the critics also pointing out the fact that India have won the matches that Bumrah hasn't played in the tour. Former India player Dinesh Karhik, however, batted for the pacer, saying whenever he plays, Bumrah has more often than not brought back India into the game from almost impossible circumstances. 'You have to look at it from Jasprit Bumrah's point of view. I think that these kinds of wins, the way the series has panned out, the way the young team has fought will actually help him in his career. I believe Jasprit Bumrah will be very proud of this young bowling attack and knowing him, he is not someone who shies away from pressure, big matches. Boss, he is in the ground, as a captain, any big moment, you go to Jasprit Bumrah, you want a wicket, go to Jasprit Bumrah, you want a 5-an over in a T20 match, you go to Jasprit Bumrah. If you are bowling with a bad, old ball which is 25 overs old in a ODI and want a wicket, go to Jasprit Bumrah. That is the name he has earned and he rightly deserves to be called that,' Karthik said on CricBuzz. 'Now this stat of when he doesn't play, India does not win. It's not his mistake. He is so impactful that otherd pale in comparison at times which is understandable. He is a world champion. When he finishes cricket, he will be spoken in the same parlance as a Glenn McGrath, Shane Warne, Dale Steyn. And I hope he will have a longer career knowing that I can pick and choose matches when I feel I am ready because there is no more pressure that I am the only one and at every match, I9 have to play. And at times, it's unfair. It's a body, he knows what he has gone through. 2 back injuries, one nasty ACL he had in 2014. It's not easy and sometimes I feel we have to cut him some slack as well,' he added. Sources in the Indian cricket board had affirmed to The Indian Express that it is not a case of Bumrah 'picking and choosing' matches he wants to play, but rather a common decision arrived at to allow the star pacer to extend his playing career as long as possible. After bowling his heart out during the last tour of Australia, Bumrah suffered a back injury before returning mid-way through the IPL. 'This is not a case of workload management. There is injury management also in place. He had already undergone a lengthy rehab process in the lead up to the 2023 World Cup. Ideally, everyone is working to not see a repeat because spending a long time in rehab in case of another injury won't be easy on him,' sources had told this paper.

Shubman Gill, Gautam Gambhir Slammed For This 'Crime' During 5th England Test: 'Injection...'
Former India batter Navjot Singh Sidhu blasted the team management for playing Akash Deep in the fifth Test despite having injury problems. The pacer did not play the fourth Test after picking up a groin injury and he seemed in a bit of trouble while bowling in the second innings of the fifth Test at The Oval. India captain Shubman Gill was even heard on stump mic asking him whether he has taken an injection to help him with the pain. Sidhu pointed out that Arshdeep Singh should have played the game instead of a half-fit Akash Deep and even went on to call the decision a 'cardinal, heinous error'. 'On the English commentary, it was clearly heard that the question was whether he (Akash Deep) took an injection or not. You are playing a bowler in a Test match after giving him an injection, while a fit left-arm pacer like Arshdeep is sitting on the bench. Why didn't you play him? Going in with a half-fit bowler is a crime. It is a cardinal, heinous error. Because your other two bowlers, who are meant to be racehorses, end up becoming workhorses,' Sidhu said on YouTube. With Jasprit Bumrah missing the Test, a lot of pressure came on Mohammed Siraj who bowled long spells and became the leader of the pace attack. Sidhu warned that the team management will end up 'breaking' Siraj if this continutes and urged them to protect him. 'You will end up breaking Siraj too. He will also break down. Because you only have three bowlers. Look at England. They played four fast bowlers. One got injured, and they still had three. Now you have just three, and not even a proper three. It is not even two and a half now." "And to be fair, it is not Akash Deep's fault. If he is injured, then he is injured. He was injured during the IPL, came back, and now he is as fragile as a touch-me-not plant. I think there have been around 13 changes. Bowlers keep coming and going," he added.
