Netflix viewers have just weeks to binge ‘steamy' 00s British TV drama
A 'flawless' British drama series about the double life of a high-end call girl is leaving Netflix very soon.
Based on the blog and books by the pseudonymous Belle de Jour, Secret Diary of a Call Girl ran for four seasons between 2007 and 2011.
It starred Billie Piper, then best known for her music career and for playing companion Rose Tyler in Doctor who two years earlier.
Written by Lucy Prebble, the series was set in London and followed Hannah Baxter (played by Billie) a young woman who lives a secret life as a call girl, under the pseudonym Belle.
It charted her professional and private lives and on complications that arise when these collide.

Although the show found itself under fire by some who claimed it glamourised and was a misrepresentation of sex work, Billie fired back.

'We've only been exposed to the drug-fuelled, sex traffic side – but the fact is, there are middle-class, cultured, well-read women who take part in this job,' she said at the time.
The first season of Secret Diary of a Call Girl divided critics.
'It's close to perfect raunchy summer television,' Buffalo News wrote in its review.
'It's eye-opening stuff, at least some of it, and yet not nearly as titillating as you might suppose. Considering the subject matter, there's surprisingly little nudity and practically nothing graphic,' The Hollywood Reporter explained.
'It would help if an actual woman stopped miming fellatio and did something interesting for a minute or two,' The Los Angeles Times brutally shared.
Meanwhile others said it 'didn't reveal many secrets'.
Despite this, reviews from fans were glowing.
'I managed to watch the entire show, all three seasons, in the space of one weekend. Billie Piper was flawless. I loved this show, definitely one of my favourite series' out there, and probably will be for a long time. It's down to earth, gritty and real,' ciara0404 posted on IMDB.
'The show is a full-blown intimate and sexcapade that is quite honestly, brilliant. Forget your 50 Shades of Grey… this British programme will open your eyes into lives that you had heard about, never fully believed, but will blow your mind with every episode,' stampsfightclub shared.
'This series is very provocative but overall, it's interesting and engrossing, making it a good call to watch,' blanbrn added.
Although the full series is currently available on Netflix, it will be taken down very soon, with fans and new viewers only able to binge it until May 29.
The first season of Secret Diary of a Call Girl attracted an average of 1,242,125 viewers in the UK. More Trending
Meanwhile when premiering in United States on Showtime, it debuted to the highest ratings the cable channel had seen in four years for a television premiere.
After working together on this series, Billie and Lucy went on to team up again on I Hate Suzie, which ran for two seasons from 2020.
That series, which followed the life of actress of Suzie Pickles whose life is thrown into turmoil when her phone is hacked and compromising photographs of her are leaked, was praised by critics and nominated for four Baftas and an International Emmy.

Camilla reveals wish to become joint patron of ‘favourite' Garden Museum
Camilla visited an exhibition held by the Garden Museum in south London on Wednesday to celebrate British Flowers Week. She told attendees she had spoken to the King, who is already a patron, about joining him after previously joking during a visit last year about 'nudging' Charles from his position. Speaking during the visit on Wednesday, she said: 'I have said to my husband and talked to the office as I would very much like to become joint patron. This is one of my favourite places and it never ceases to surprise me', which prompted cheers and applause from the crowd. Gardener and TV presenter Alan Titchmarsh, the president of the Garden Museum, said he would be following up Camilla's decision to become joint patron 'with a letter with a strong invitation'. Of her wish to become joint patron, he added: 'I wouldn't want to tread on His Majesty's toes but I think he would be delighted that Her Majesty is every bit as keen as he is.' Dressed in a polka dot dress and cream and black-toed shoes, Camilla was greeted by Titchmarsh and Christopher Woodward and Rupert Tyler, the Garden Museum's director and chairman of trustees. She told them the museum 'just gets better and better. I think it is hard to get it better but it always manages'. The Queen viewed six installations featuring British cut flowers and met the artists behind them, discussing the importance of diversifying as well as plant upkeep techniques. Camilla was accompanied at times by Sarah Hardy, the deputy director, and florist Shane Connolly, who designed the floral arrangements for the coronation in 2023. She also viewed Cecil Beaton's Garden Party, a display which included portraits of Queen Elizabeth II (then Princess Elizabeth), the Queen Mother, and Princess Margaret. Camilla then met schoolchildren from Evelyn Grace Academy and Platanos College in south-west London to learn about the biology of the tea plant at the museum. She told the children her favourite tea was mint but that she also liked lemon barley, adding they were 'nice to have after an evening meal' as they helped to digest it. She tried her hand at making mint teabags with the museum's plant science educator, Samia Qureshi. Camilla sniffed and placed the herbs in the drawstring bags and said: 'I shall sample that tonight.' Reaching the museum's cafe, she received a bouquet of flowers from head chef Myles Donaldson's daughter, Darcie, four, before telling cafe staff: 'I wish I was staying'.

Netflix star suffers 'mangled' injury that left him needing surgery
Skins star Sebastian de Souza - who has also appeared in shows like Normal People and more recently the Netflix film the Life List - has shared that he needed surgery last month An actor who rose to fame on Skins before starring in international projects for the likes of Netflix has announced that he needed surgery after sustaining an injury recently. He has now told fans that he spent two weeks in hospital. Sebastian de Souza, 32 - who is best known for playing Matty Levan on the E4 show - has shared that he fractured part of his leg after falling off a bike in London. He revealed on Instagram last week that he needed an operation on his "mangled knee" at St Mary's Hospital in Paddington. His post included photos, including several of Sebastian - who recently starred in Netflix's the Life List - lying in a hospital bed. He's seen with a bandaging on his left leg in several photos and appeared to sport a cast at one point. Sebastian, who showcased a shorter hairstyle in some selfies that were included in the post, wrote in the caption: "New Hair! New Normal! Dear Souzles, forgive the radio silence! Three weeks ago I broke my leg falling off my bike." Sebastian continued: "Some very, very kind people (the first of thousands of kind people who have gone out of their way to help me recently - you know who you are and I will never be able to repay you) got me to St Mary's Hospital Paddington, where I was whisked through the extraordinary A&E department by the gorgeous paramedics, doctors, nurses, domestic and administrative staff, all of whom made to feel so welcome and comfortable and safe." He then said that it turned out he had a tibial plateau fracture, which is understood to be a break in the upper part of the shin bone, and "needed an operation". He however said that his "mangled knee" wasn't as bad as some other patient's injuries so he had to wait for the procedure. Sebastian said: "St Mary's is one of the best trauma centres on planet earth and so, naturally, there were lots of poor people with injuries far graver than mine queuing up for operations that needed doing quickly, which meant my mangled knee would have to wait a little bit before getting patched up." He continued by saying that he spent time on wards at the hospital whilst waiting for surgery. The actor - whose credits include shows like Medici: The Magnificent, Normal People and the Great - described that two week period as the "most wonderful, inspiring, insightful, love-filled fortnight". Sebastian added: "I have never been treated with such kindness, care, respect, sensitivity and love. Nor have I ever seen such professionalism and compassion shown so consistently by anyone to everyone, ever. During my two weeks with you I witnessed selflessness and charity and generosity of spirit the like of which one never sees these days. Behaviour rarer than magic." In the caption of his post, he continued: "Thank God for @nhsengland @nhsenglandldn . As far as I'm concerned the NHS is the greatest institution ever invented and should be supported, protected and celebrated at all costs. Forever." Sebastian concluded by apologising for his "lengthy message" and said that he just wanted to say the "biggest thank you imaginable" to the staff at St Mary's Hospital. He added: "And an equally massive thank you to my incredible family and extraordinary friends - the most remarkable, steadfast, loyal and supportive on Earth - for helping me crutch my way through this fascinating new chapter!"
