Not only do marigolds boast vibrant golden blooms, but they also emit a potent aroma that squirrels find off-putting.
According to experts, this scent interferes with their sense of smell, making it challenging for hungry squirrels to rummage through the garden for their next meal.
If you're keen to test this natural method to ward off squirrels, it's best to choose a sunny spot in your garden as these flowers require at least six hours of sunlight daily.
For best results - and an epic garden glow-up - sow your seeds approximately six to 12 inches apart and once they've taken root, ensure they're regularly watered.

Hornets and wasps - hate the smell of peppermint oil so spraying this liberally around your patio or balcony can help to keep them at bay.
Moths - acidic household white vinegar is effective for deterring moths. Soak some kitchen roll in vinegar and leave it in your wardrobe as a deterrent.
Flying ants - herbs and spices, such as cinnamon, mint, chilli pepper, black pepper, cayenne pepper, cloves, or garlic act as deterrents.
Mosquitoes - plants, herbs and essential oil fragrances can help deter mozzies inside and out. Try eucalyptus, lavender and lemongrass.
If you feel like you need additional squirrel deterrent planting, it's worth considering other strongly scented plants such as mint or nasturtium.
The layering of smells forms a robust barrier against the noses of the furry animal.
Another scent, we reported earlier, is using coffee grounds.

Pest control expert Jordan Foster said: 'Spread coffee grounds in your borders as squirrels hate the smell of them and will run away and won't come back.'
The expert also advised adding water to the grounds, to make sure they stick, and to enhance the odour.
Before applying to the whole of your garden, you should test a small area to ensure it doesn't harm plants.
Coffee grounds can also be effective at harming other pests, such as cats and rats.

Alongside planting deterrents, households should also maintain their garden tidy and free from food leftovers - as these will attract squirrels, rats and mice to consume what they desire.

Matthew and Stacey, the couple behind the Toyota World Runners social media pages, died in a recent off-road accident in the mountains of British Columbia towards the village of Trout Lake. Their deaths were confirmed by friends and family online and by Kaslo Search and Rescue, who attended the scene. The couple were driving through rough terrain on a forestry road north of Trout Lake on the evening of August 7 when rescuers believe they lost control of their vehicle. Mark Jennings-Bates, a manager with Kaslo SAR, said teams were called to the crash at around 7.30pm local time. He said: 'Our teams were able to get to them efficiently. It's a long journey, but they got there efficiently. So that was very, very helpful. And of course that means that the helicopter pilot could also fly straight to the destination with confidence that he was going to find them." Jennings-Bates confirmed that one of them had died before rescuers arrived, while the other was airlifted to hospital but later died. Their close friends at @4xjournalnz also confirmed the news in a heartfelt post on their Instagram page, describing them as 'two extraordinary souls who truly lived life to the fullest.' Content cannot be displayed without consent The pair first connected with 4XJournal through a feature story, quickly becoming friends over their shared love of Toyotas, craft beer, and travel. 'With a little encouragement, we convinced them to visit New Zealand they stayed in our home, celebrated my birthday, and, of course, enjoyed more than a few craft beers together,' the post said. During that trip, the New Zealand friends helped Matthew and Stacey buy and build a Hilux so they could explore the country. They travelled together to Queenstown before the couple continued on to the South Island. 'Matthew and Stacey had an enormous impact on my life. First, through their content. Then, as close friends,' the post continued. Content cannot be displayed without consent 'We spent countless hours in fits of laughter, and I had the privilege of witnessing their fierce love for one another… They were planning their wedding and a lifetime of off-road exploration together.' The tribute also acknowledged the risks of their shared passion. 'Remote locations are part of what makes this lifestyle so special, but they come with risks. Matthew and Stacey knew that - and they embraced life regardless.' Matthew was remembered as 'the visionary, the drone pilot, the Toyota wheeler… hilarious, endlessly creative, and determined to live life to the fullest.' Article continues below Stacey was also described as 'the kindest of souls… number one camera operator, Toyota wheeler, and a truly grounded spirit unlike any other.' The tribute concluded: 'Rest in peace, you two. You will be forever missed.'

Natalie Goodall, now 32, made the decision to relocate to the UAE after she was offered a golf coaching job aged just 18. Natalie lived in the seemingly idyllic and luxurious city for years until the Dubai lifestyle became too much - because the city's "business model" didn't allow for "work-life balance". After years of working 80 hour, six-day weeks, Natalie moved back to the UK in 2019 and has settled down in West Parley, Dorset. And, while she loved Dubai and says she'll go back for holidays, she said she's unlikely to relocate back there. As swathes of Brits opt to move out there with high expectations of luxurious living and endless fun, Natalie feels that Brits going with high expectations "may be disappointed." Natalie, now a self-employed PGA professional, said: "I never saw myself leaving Dubai - I was working at one of the best golf schools in the world. "And the city was absolutely stunning, on my day off I went down to the beach and when you let your hair down you could have a bloody good time. "But afterwards you'd look at your bank balance and think 'oh crap'. "But the business model out there - there is no work life balance. "I was coming home to my partner after 12 hour days, at 9pm, and I could barely hold a conversation because I'd be so tired. I fled the UK for sunny Dubai - life back home is miserable & no-one has any cash "In my last year I told him 'I can't do this' - you know when your time is up. "It's a very glamorous place and I can see moving there is a trend - but everywhere has their downfalls." At the time, she was making the equivalent of around £25-£30k a year - but the high costs in Dubai meant she couldn't enjoy the full extent of the luxurious lifestyle compared to what people assume. She said: "I was just making money to survive - in the service industry you were worked very hard. How easy is it to move abroad? Brexit means British citizens now have to apply for visas to move to countries within the EU. While some countries residency restrictions are easier than others, here's what you need to do at home before moving: Notify HMRC about your upcoming move. Let your local authority know and provide a forwarding address. Contact your mortgage and utility providers and bank before leaving. If you have paid enough UK national insurance contributions, you can qualify for a state pension abroad - contact the International Pension Centre. You can sign up to the Royal Mail's redirection service. If you have outstanding student loans, contact the Student Loans Centre. If you have children, give due notice to childcares and schools. "I was working six days a week and I couldn't afford to reduce my hours." After meeting her fellow expat partner Will Coan, 34, in 2017, while out there, the pair lived together but Natalie began to "spiral". She said: "You can feel yourself, your work and time management aren't as good, your diet goes out the window. " I never saw myself leaving Dubai but it's not sustainable - as I got older, I started to think, how the bloody hell will I have a life here? "It's not on an individual person - it's just the business model out there." In September 2019, she moved from Dubai back to the UK and got a job in Guernsey, once she had secured the necessary golf qualifications to be a coach. Nine months later, Will, who worked in a role in food manufacturing, finished his contract and moved back to the UK as well.
