00s rockstar claims party 'saved his life' after defying doctor's orders
Two decades on, one particular award show has stuck in the mind of The Cribs frontman Ryan Jarman – 2006's NME Awards.
'I was leaving like trails of blood everywhere,' he recalled of the infamous evening that saw him dive onto the table filled with bottles and glasses in a spur-of-the-moment move.
Unfortunately for the Men's Needs hitmaker, he ended up puncturing his kidney in the process.
'Something conspired where we were getting handed an award, which we weren't up for, but I ended up jumping on the table, I landed on this vase and it smashed, stuck straight through my back,' Ryan, 44, shared.

Feeling selfless, Ricky Wilson then offered it to Ryan, who can be seen in grainy clips absolutely flying across the table out of nowhere.
He awkwardly rolls off and lands on the floor, standing up quickly to let everyone know he was okay – despite the gaping hole in his back.
Speaking on The Rise And Fall Of Indie Sleaze podcast on BBC Sounds, Ryan said: 'I guess when you do stuff like that, you don't feel it because there's no nerves in there or whatever and when I came offstage after getting the award, I put my hand on my back and my fingers just went straight inside.
'I was like, 'Oh my God!' So we went straight to the hospital and they stitched me up and they said, 'You've got to go straight back to the hotel and go to sleep, do not go back out tonight.''
Of course, being a rock star who maybe had had a few drinks and wanted to enjoy his night, Ryan headed back to the party instead.
Turns out, his determination to return to the now closed Hammersmith Palais may have saved his life.
'It was a really good job I went back to the awards because they hadn't stitched me up properly,' he revealed. 'They hadn't stitched me up internally and I was like blowing up like a balloon.
'I was leaving like trails of blood everywhere and if I had gone back to the hotel, I don't think I would have made it through the night anyway.'
The next day, his phone was blowing up with messages from people wanting pictures of his gastly wound, which his publicity team thought was 'good work'.
'I'm just like blood everywhere and feeling depressed,' he said. 'I guess it was a good thing, you know what I mean?' More Trending
His partner at the time, the equally iconic Kate Nash, used the video in her defence when she was 'banned' from the awards show years later.
After the pair split in 2012, after seven years together, she claims she was told she couldn't go as The Cribs were getting an award for outstanding contribution to music.
'I was like, 'Me? Based on what reputation? What am I gonna do that's gonna be so crazy?' I'm like, 'He's literally done that!'

The Canadian songwriter's colourful appearance comes after she revealed last year that her skin was often lightened in magazine photoshoots. Nelly, whose parents immigrated from Portugal, told People: '"I have olive skin, and they'd kind of lighten my skin a lot in photos and kind of take my hips down all the time they would always cut off in editorials.' She also mentioned that there was a 'lot of airbrushing' during her peak fame years. This isn't the first time she opened up about the worrying trend as her 2003 song Powerless had lyrics that stated: 'Paint my face in your magazines, Make it look whiter than it seems, Paint me over with your dreams, Shove away my ethnicity.' Reflecting on her experience, she continued: '"By my second album, I guess I was kind of angry about it." Despite these challenges, Nelly said she felt 'so lucky and blessed' and had a good team around her who were looking out for her best interests. She's one of the most successful Canadian artists, having sold over 45 million records, including 35 million in album sales worldwide. Nelly first shot to fame when she released her trip hop inspired debut album, Whoa, Nelly! In 2000. Her debut project was both a critical and commercial success, with two singles hitting the Billboard Top 100, namely I'm Like A Bird and Turn Off The Lights. She released her second album, Folklore, in 2003 and this time around, she experimented with and explored her Portuguese heritage. The legend went on to release a further five albums over a 14-year-span, with her latest offering, 7, releasing just last year.

Made In Chelsea's Ryan Libbey has shared an update on his wedding with fiancée Louise Thompson, what kind of day they are planning and which famous face will be best man. Ryan Libbey has confirmed he is finally set to marry partner Louise Thompson, seven years after he proposed to the reality star in Los Angeles. The couple put a pause on wedding planning as they welcomed their son, Leo, in November 2021, and have had a tough few years since following Louise's traumatic childbirth - which saw her almost lose her life. But Ryan has now revealed to Mirror that the big day is back on, with planning in full swing: "We've registered our intent to marry. The process has officially started. We're still deciding – either something small like a town hall wedding and party, or abroad." With Louise's famous brother Sam Thompson living right next door to the couple in West London borough Chelsea, the pair have struck up a close-knit bond. But will Sam get the Best Man spot in the wedding? "He'd probably assume so," laughs Ryan as he keeps the answer coy. Continuing: "We're very close now. We live next to each other, hang out all the time – even just us two having chats about life." If they need any wedding inspiration, it comes after Mel B's 'spiritual' Moroccan wedding with non traditional dress. Ryan and Louise are in a positive place now, but have only just come out the other side following Louise's post-natal troubles. After her traumatic birth which included an emergency C-section and saw Louise almost lose her life twice, she was in hospital for a prolonged stay and left with life-long health implications, alongside PTSD from the experience. Due to the physical and mental impact, Louise was unable to fully bond with her son, leaving Ryan as the sole caregiver for Leo. "It took chunks out of me," he says of the experience. Ryan explains, "Louise was unwell and away from parenting for the first 10 months, so I was Leo's sole caregiver. I hit a low point – possibly depression. I didn't realise it until family pointed it out. "Eventually, I had to take a four-day break to reset. It was hard but transformative. We've matured as a family and I've become passionate about men speaking openly about emotions." Now, Louise has struck up a close bond with Leo and the family are finally on a normal track, something Ryan is feeling thankful for. Describing his relationship with Louise as 'stronger than ever', Ryan shares what the secret has been to getting to this positive place: "One word: communication. I had to learn all about love languages. Louise's love language is about quality time and words of affirmation, whereas mine is acts of service," he says. "I stopped trying to fix everything. Once I did that, everything changed. We're in a much better place now. Despite the challenges, we're stronger than ever." And if there is ever anything to iron out, Ryan says they do so in the form of "public therapy", or in other words, their podcast; He said, She said. "Louise says she learns a new thing about me in each episode. Nothing is scripted – we hit record and talk real life. It started with parenthood but evolved into relationships and lifestyle. People now recognise us from the podcast more than TV. That authenticity cuts through. It's like public therapy." Now, being a dad feels much more natural to Ryan these days, too. "It took me two years to accept my role as a dad. The first two years were chaotic. But now, at three years old, he's got this amazing personality." Alongside being a dad and a husband-to-be, Personal Trainer Ryan still loves working in fitness, where his bread was buttered before giving reality TV a go. And in his newest project, the dad-of-one has teamed up with Powerade for its 'Pause Is Power' campaign, which encourages the public to take a pause from their daily routines. Ryan has been using this pause, and his fresh love for running, to get himself into a new comfort zone. "Running hasn't always been my thing. It wasn't something I was drawn to. But after everything with Louise's health I needed an outlet," he says. "I was invited to do the Marathon des Sables in the Sahara Desert, which was way out of my comfort zone. The race is meant for elite athletes, but I threw myself into the process. It gave me a new outlet. Since then, I've enjoyed running more."

The Squid Game-style TV challenge made its debut this March, broadcasting directly before Britain's Got Talent during Saturday evening prime time. The presenters and programme received a lukewarm reception, with some viewers even dubbing the siblings the "next Ant and Dec". Nevertheless, the show appears not to have made sufficient impact as former Emmerdale actor Adam Thomas confirmed that the broadcaster had cancelled the programme. It marked the first occasion the pair had hosted a television show together, and even included a guest appearance from their sibling, Love Island personality Scott Thomas, reports the Mirror. It represents a double setback for Adam, who previously endured another ITV programme cancellation in 2020, when I'm A Celebrity Extra Camp was removed from schedules. During the most recent instalment of their podcast, At Home With The Thomas Bro's, Adam revealed: "When I am positive about something, it gets cancelled. "Honestly, I don't know what I'm doing wrong. Like I did [I'm a Celebrity spin off] Extra Camp presenting, did one series of that, got cancelled. The next presenting job I did was with Ryan, 99 to Beat, and that's got cancelled." The cancelled programme featured 100 contestants competing against one another in various challenges to secure a substantial cash reward of £25,000. Following each round, unsuccessful participants were eliminated from the contest permanently until just one player remained, having triumphed over the remaining 99. Caitlin Lawlor, a financial crime associate, scooped the massive cash prize at the end of the series. Speaking to Lorraine following her win, she said: "I loved it, it was a once in a lifetime opportunity and I am so, so glad I took it." Adam's disappointing news comes just weeks after he sent Emmerdale fans into a spin by hinting at a comeback for his character. However, those hoping for a return of Adam Barton might have to hold their breath a bit longer. The actor caused a stir last month when he posted a picture of himself next to the famous sign on his Instagram, captioning it: "I'm BACK! ! ! !". Adam's post whipped fans into a frenzy, with one commenting: "Is this true? Please be true! ! !" while another wrote: "I really hope this is true as you were my favourite Barton ever! ! ! ! ! ! !". However, according to the Mirror, there are currently no plans for Adam to return, and his presence on set was for a different reason. Many fans weren't fooled by the joker's post - suspecting he's there for another programme.
