Celtic's '12th Lisbon Lion' John Fallon dies aged 84
The Cambuslang-born goalkeeper joined Celtic in 1958 and made almost 200 appearances over a 14-year period.
He played in the team that kick-started Celtic's trophy success under Stein with victory over Dunfermline in the 1965 Scottish Cup final and went on to collect 14 winners' medals in total before leaving for Motherwell. He also had a brief spell with Morton before retiring.
A statement from the Scottish champions read: 'His love for Celtic, however, was a constant throughout the years, and he followed the club at home and away for the rest of life.
'His passing comes as a great sadness to us all, and the thoughts and prayers of everyone connected with Celtic Football Club are with his family and friends at this sad time.'
Fallon was reunited with his European Cup winners' medal in 2019, having lost it in the wake of the final.
The memento was donated to Celtic, who returned it to its rightful owner.
Speaking at the time, Fallon told the Celtic website: 'We were wading through scores of fans to get off the park and into the dressing room. It's such a great memory.
'We'll never forget it, and it's something everyone should be proud of. For the Celtic supporters, we gave them something to look at that nobody else could.'
Fallon attended the funeral of fellow Lisbon Lion John Clark last month.

Historic Scottish golf club to open new course and clubhouse
Royal Dornoch Golf Club in Sutherland is consistently ranked among the world's finest golf courses, and is now forecasting a 30 per cent rise in advance bookings for the 2026 season compared to the same period last year. To meet this demand, the club has unveiled a master plan designed to reimagine its courses, enhance player facilities and amplify the region's golf tourism appeal. It said: 'At the heart of the vision is a revamped Struie Course, a brand-new 18-hole championship layout on prime Scottish linksland, and two additional short courses – one of which will be ideal for the club's growing junior programme. A state-of-the-art practice facility, a Himalayas-style putting green and the potential for lodges are also in the pipeline. The expansion is expected to create full-time and seasonal jobs once the new courses and accommodation are fully operational. Its new energy-efficient clubhouse funded through a £5 million package from Bank of Scotland's Clean Growth Finance Initiative is on track to open this December. Built to blend sustainability with tradition, the space will include solar panels, battery storage, underfloor heating and a dedicated archive room celebrating the club's history, which dates to 1616. Neil Hampton, general manager at Royal Dornoch, said: 'There's something really special about Royal Dornoch, you can feel the history under your feet. But that doesn't mean standing still. This isn't just about building new courses, it's about shaping what the next 50 years of golf in the Highlands can look like. 'With international visitors inspired by events like the Scottish Open, we're proud to offer a world-class links experience that reflects the scale and passion of the golf season. Supported by the Bank of Scotland and with our new clubhouse nearing completion, we're now perfectly positioned to meet that global interest with facilities to match. It's a special moment for the club, our members and the wider community.' Michael Thomson, relationship director at Bank of Scotland, said: 'Royal Dornoch is a jewel in Scotland's sporting crown - rich in heritage, but never afraid to innovate. What Neil and the team are building isn't just ambitious, it's thoughtful and forward-looking. 'We've proudly supported the club for over 40 years, and I can't wait to see what this next chapter has to offer, from sustainability to new jobs and visitor experiences.' Cottage offering gated access to Royal Troon listed for sale This Troon cottage just on the market for offers over £375,000 is definitely one for the golf fans. Set on a private plot at the end of Crosbie Road and immediately adjacent to Royal Troon, 'The Cottage' has an enviable position within one of the town's most prestigious addresses. There is gated access directly out to the 17th and 18th holes of the Portland Course and there are "views out across this beautiful links course from the lounge windows". The agent said: "This unique location is also within walking distance of the popular seafront, countryside and woodland walks, the amenities of the town centre, and within close proximity of the A77/M77 road network." Aberdeen transfer state of play as Jimmy Thelin learns how many more signings he will make
The Dons are back in for AC Milan striker Marko Lazetic but Swedish boss is hunting reinforcement sin other areas as well Aberdeen have renewed their interest in Marko Lazetic - as Jimmy Thelin looks to bring in four new signings before the close of the window. The Scottish Cup winners tried to land the AC Milan striker last season but were thwarted by red tape at the end of the January window. Aberdeen 's recruitment chief Nuno de Almeida and his team have been working on striking targets all summer. The Dons have now gone back in for Lazetic but Milan are looking to claw back as much of the €4 million they paid Red Star to land him back in 2022. The Serbian side are also due a sell-on of any fee. Aberdeen would prefer to buy Lazetic but would be open to a loan with a possible option. The Dons would also need to get the green light and a work visa to land the Serbian under-21 cap. Lazetic hasn't played much football at Milan and it is unlikely he is going to make it there. He has spent the last seasons on loan at Rheindorf Altach, Fortuna Sittard and then at TSC. Thelin has brought in Kusini Yengi and had been searching for another forward after Kevin Nisbet and Oday Dabbagh returned to their parent clubs at the end of their loans. The Aberdeen boss also wants another winger along with a striker and is also looking to add another two signings to his squad, as he looks to bulk up for group stage football in either the Europa League or Conference League. That would see Thelin bring in 11 signings in this window. The key for Thelin though is that it has to be the right quality and characters to enhance his squad. Thelin has the full backing of chairman Dave Cormack and his board. Other players could also go with the likes of Richard Jensen and Slobodan Rubezic having just returned from loan spells, as they will be looking for more first-team football. William Saliba warns Premier League rivals over 'scary' Arsenal signing
Arsenal star William Saliba says Premier League defenders are in for a 'scary' ride next season following Viktor Gyokeres' arrival from Sporting. The Gunners officially announced that they had won the race for Gyokeres at the weekend, with the club agreeing a deal worth €63.5million (£54.8m) – plus €10m (£8.6m) in add-ons – with Portuguese champions Sporting. The prolific Swede became Arsenal's sixth signing of the window, following Kepa Arrizabalaga, Christian Norgaard, Noni Madueke, Martin Zubimendi and Cristhian Mosquera through the doors at the Emirates. Manchester United had also been pursuing an agreement for Gyokeres across the summer, but the 27-year-old attacker was intent on playing Champions League football next term – and made it clear he favoured a switch to north London. Gyokeres joined up with his new team-mates in Singapore on Sunday and was formally introduced to the crowd before Arsenal's pre-season victory over Newcastle. While there is a chance Gyokeres could make his debut in Arsenal's upcoming friendly with arch-rivals Tottenham on Thursday, Mikel Arteta has hinted fans may have to be a little more patient to see the forward in action for the first time. 'We know how good he is, it's scary to play against him,' Arsenal defender Saliba told Hayters TV when asked about Gyokeres following the side's 3-2 defeat of Newcastle. 'Of course, I'm so happy to have him in my club, and I'm sure that he will help us to win games and win trophies.' Asked what exactly makes Gyokeres a 'scary' prospect for opposition defenders, Saliba replied: 'Because when you face a striker who scores goals, you have to be focused! 'But now he's in our team and he will score for us, so that's good.' Saliba believes Arsenal's hierarchy have signalled their intent with the quality they have brought in during the transfer window. 'Our mindset is to win the Premier League and we will give everything from the first game,' the France centre-back added. 'We have a lot of new players and they will hopefully help us to win this league.' Arsenal's wonderkid Max Dowman stole the show with an magnificent cameo performance off the bench against Newcastle, drawing a foul from Joelinton to win Martin Odegaard's late penalty. Fellow Hale End academy graduate Marli Salmon was also given playing time in Singapore, coming off the bench for Saliba in the 77th minute of the contest. 'They are unbelievable. Of course, they are young, we mustn't put pressure on them, but to play the way they play at 15!' Saliba said of the two 15-year-old talents. 'I remember when I was 15, I was not playing with the first-team. I was with the U17s, so it's good. 'We have to protect them and give them support, but of course, they are really, really good players, and I hope they will help us as soon as possible. Saliba hopes Arsenal continue to build on their 'positive' showings in Asia heading into the new season More Trending 'There are a lot of positive things. We played two games; we won two games,' he said of the wins over AC Milan and Newcastle. 'There are also a lot of things to improve, but of course we have to keep going like that. 'We have three games left before the Premier League, so we have to keep going and keep winning games. 'Pressure is good, that means we are in a good place. If we are not good we don't have pressure. We play football to have pressure.' For more stories like this, check our sport page. Follow Metro Sport for the latest news on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram.
