Police save 3 youth from drowning
The SP explained in a note that about 1,000 pilgrims from Kolalapudi village in Martur mandal visited Vadarevvu beach after attending the Ankalamma Kolupulu, a village festival, on Friday. While they were taking a bath, three youths ventured too deep into the sea and were caught by strong waves. Chirala Rural Sub-Inspector Chandrasekhar, who is on drone surveillance nearby, spotted the struggling youth and immediately alerted police personnel and trained swimmers stationed along the coast. The rescue team responded swiftly, diving into the rough waters to bring all three youth safely to shore. Following the successful rescue, the SI provided counselling to the youth before safely handing them over to their village community. The tourists expressed gratitude for the quick response of the police and use of technology.
SP Tushar Dudi said that they had previously deployed enhanced security measures at Vadarevvu and Ramapuram beaches due to increased tourist traffic. The safety infrastructure includes drone surveillance, CCTV cameras, addressing systems to warn visitors, and increased deployment of police and trained swimmers.
He emphasised that robust security measures have been implemented compared to previous years.
Appreciating the SI and the rescue team for their swift action, the SP warned that legal action would be taken against visitors who ignore police warnings or enter the sea under the influence of alcohol. He stressed the importance of following safety guidelines to prevent accidents.

Puducherry DGP calls for real-time intelligence sharing ahead of Independence Day
PUDUCHERRY: Director General of Police Shalini Singh has stressed the need for real-time intelligence sharing, institutionalised coordination between bordering police stations, and proactive social media monitoring to detect and deter potential threats. Speaking at an inter-state coordination meeting in Puducherry on Tuesday to review security and law and order arrangements for the upcoming Independence Day celebrations, she also underscored the importance of advance anti-sabotage checks and robust crowd management plans to prevent panic or stampede-like situations during public gatherings. The meeting, held in hybrid mode from the Police Headquarters Conference Hall, saw the participation of senior officers from Puducherry and Tamil Nadu Police. Among those present were DIGP (Law & Order), Puducherry; SSPs of various wings; DIGP, Villupuram; SPs of Villupuram and Cuddalore; and representatives from the Coast Guard and Intelligence Bureau. Officers from Thanjavur, Mayiladuthurai, Nagapattinam and Thiruvarur joined via video conferencing, along with SSP and SDPOs from Karaikal. To ensure incident-free celebrations, officials agreed on maintaining high alert deployments and ensuring swift information sharing across state borders. Plans were drawn up to set up joint border pickets, install additional CCTV surveillance, and strengthen coastal intelligence through close engagement with the local fishing community. In a key development, a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed between the Puducherry Police and the National Security Guard (NSG) to bolster counterterrorism capabilities in the Union Territory. The agreement will focus on training, joint exercises, and exchange of best practices. Officials said the coordinated measures mark a significant step towards ensuring a safe and secure Independence Day in Puducherry and neighbouring districts of Tamil Nadu.

Punjab DGP cites Pak Army Chief's Florida comments to caution rank and file to remain alert
In his meetings with Police officers across Punjab for the past two days, Director General of Police Gaurav Yadav has referred to the anti-India statements made by Pakistan's Army Chief Field Marshal Asim Munir in Florida, USA, and asked the Punjab Police officials to be alive to the inimical designs of the Pakistan Army on India and Punjab. In the past 48 hours the DGP has been hotfooting across Jalandhar, Amritsar, Ferozepur, Bathinda, Patiala and Ludhiana holding meetings with with all 8 ranges, 28 CPs/SSPs, and SP/DSPs on security issues and getting feedback. Munir had made several provocative statements about India during a black-tie dinner in Tampa, Florida, on August 10. According to reports, he issued a nuclear threat, stating, 'We are a nuclear nation, if we think we are going down, we'll take half the world down with us,'. He also addressed the Indus Waters Treaty, warning that Pakistan would destroy any dam India builds on the Indus River with 'ten missiles,'. The DGP referred to the security situation on J&K and how in recent past Pakistan has attempted to create unrest in Punjab through sporadic violence carried out by terrorist groups and gangsters who are actively supported by its intelligence agency Inter Services Intelligence (ISI). 'The DGP cautioned that there were continuous efforts being made by Pakistan to destabilise the security situation through gangs and separatist groups and that Munir's comments show where his focus lies and what plans he may have to inflict damage on India through over and covert means. The DGP pointed out that the ring leaders of all Punjab-centric violent groups were located in Pakistan and these groups had their vital nodes in that country too therefore it was necessary for Punjab Police to remain alert ,' the officer said. The field officials were briefed by the DGP that it has been observed in the recent past that the Pakistan Intelligence Operatives (PIOs) have become very desperate in Punjab and have been pressing their local contacts for some immediate 'action'. 'The district level officials were informed that the Pak intelligence agents have been very, very active and their desperation to carry out some destabilising event is recognised by the fact that they have started directly calling up their Indian contacts, especially in the border areas, ans asking them to 'do something',' a senior official said. The DGP also touched upon inter-district coordination and modern policing and emphasised seamless coordination between districts, enhanced use of technology like CCTV and advanced surveillance systems. He also encouraged open discussions with SHOs to gather ground-level feedback, strengthening community welfare and operational efficiency. The meetings also underscored the focus to dismantling drug networks and acting decisively against organised crime and gangsters.

Obtain e-pass online to watch I-Day celebrations: BBMP
Bengaluru: For the first time, the general public can obtain e-pass online to watch the 79th Independence Day celebrations, said Maheshwara Rao, Chief Commissioner, Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) on Wednesday. Rao, along with the Commissioner of Police, Bengaluru, Seemanth Kumar Singh, was briefing the media here about how Bengaluru is preparing for the state-level ceremony to be held on August 15 at Field Marshal Manik Shah Parade Ground, Cubbon Road, Bengaluru. 'Earlier invitations were distributed by government officials to special invitees and to those involved in the ceremony. Now, people can obtain an e-pass from the Seva Sindhu website ( added the commissioner. He said a live telecast of the programme is also available on Doordarshan. According to him, the viewing gallery for the public at the venue has been expanded to allow more people to watch the programme in person. Chief Minister Siddaramaiah will hoist the Indian flag, following which he will inspect the parade in an open jeep and receive the guard of honour. Siddaramaiah will also deliver an Independence Day message. On ground security checks are already underway, said the Police Commissioner. 'Police have been deployed on guard duty at the ground for the last 15 days. They are also checking all the hotels, lodges and rest houses for any suspicious activities,' said Singh. CCTV cameras and baggage scanners, Door Frame Metal Detector and Hand-Held Metal Detector have been installed around the ground to closely monitor all the events, he added. He also appealed to those with green passes (e-passes) to arrive at Gate no. 05 from the Manipal Centre side via Cubbon Road. He urged people not to carry any unnecessary luggage or items with them. Even essential items like mobile phones, water bottles, helmets, cameras, radios and umbrellas are best left behind to facilitate quick entry into the venue, he added. Meanwhile, Bengaluru Traffic Police has appealed to the public to use public transport and metro service as much as possible, due to the lack of space for parking vehicles at Manik Shah Parade Ground and nearby areas. Parking will not be allowed at Central Street (from Anil Kumble Circle to Shivajinagar Bus Stand), Cubbon Road (from CTO Circle to K R Road and Cubbon Road Junction) and MG Road, from Anil Kumble Circle to Trinity Circle), added a Traffic Police advisory issued on Wednesday.
