The final whistle blows for SAFA Sedibeng Regional League 2024/2025 soccer season
SEDIBENG.- With the SAFA Sedibeng Hollywood Men's Regional League season coming to an end, there is no doubt that Young Pirates FC will be crowned the 2024/2025 season league champions.
Pirates FC has been at the top of the log standings for the better part of the season, and with less than three games to play, they have already crowned the league champions.
Boipatong FC is currently second and VUT FC third on the log.
The gap between these teams suggests that Pirates FC will walk away with the title for the second consecutive year.
Last season, they were crowned Stream A winners and SAFA Sedibeng Hollywood Men's League overall winners.
Last season, the SAFA Sedibeng Regional League was divided into two streams, consisting of 20 teams. This meant each team had to play a total of 38 games. After they were crowned the overall champions, Pirates went on to represent this region at the Inter-Regional Promotion Play-offs. They, however, failed to secure promotion to the ABC Motsepe League.
As things stand, for the past three seasons, there is no team that has been promoted to the ABC Motsepe League. The last team to represent Sedibeng in the ABC Motsepe League was Vaal Professional FC, NWU Vaal FC, and VUT FC.
Unfortunately, these above-mentioned teams have since been relegated to the lower division – the Hollywood League, formerly the SAB Regional League. For the past three years, it has been difficult for the Sedibeng region to produce an ABC Motsepe League team.
Young Pirates FC will carry the hopes of local soccer fans to gain promotion to the ABC Motsepe League. With all the resources on home soil, it is a shame that this region doesn't have representatives in top-flight football, especially the semi-professional league.

Chivu leaves Parma ahead of Inter Milan move
Cristian Chivu said goodbye to Parma on Monday ahead of his move to his former club Inter Milan to replace Simone Inzaghi as coach. Former Romania defender Chivu will take charge of Inter, where he won three Serie A titles and the 2010 Champions League as a player, after guiding Parma to Serie A safety in his first senior coaching job. "I thank the club, staff, players and fans for having believed in me and our project," said Chivu on Instagram. "Together we overcame obstacles and wrote a page (in Parma's history) which will remain in my heart." Parma later confirmed Chivu's departure, thanking him for dragging the club out of the relegation zone after replacing Fabio Pecchia in February. That was Chivu's first job in football since leaving Inter's youth set-up last summer. Chivu has reportedly agreed a two-year contract worth 2.5 million euros ($2.85 million) a season with Inter who have gambled on the novice coach ahead of the upcoming Club World Cup, after failing to get Cesc Fabregas from Como. Inzaghi left Inter last week in the wake of the Italians' thumping 5-0 defeat at the hands of Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League final. Inter had been gunning for the treble but conceded the Serie A title to Napoli on the final day of the season, were knocked out of the Italian Cup by AC Milan and humiliated by PSG in Munich.

Kaizer Chiefs target prolific lower league striker amid transfer race
Kaizer Chiefs have stepped up their pursuit of one of the lower divisions' most exciting forwards, as they look to sharpen their attacking arsenal ahead of the new Betway Premiership season. A source has confirmed that Amakhosi are closely monitoring Thapelo Matlhoko, the prolific striker from Kruger United. Who has become a hot property following a string of standout performances, as per Soccer Laduma . Chiefs aren't alone in the chase, but they appear to be in the driving seat. 'Now Kaizer Chiefs are also interested in him. But let's see where he will go,' a source close to the situation said. Matlhoko first caught the eye of scouts during the ABC Motsepe League playoffs, where his finishing instincts and physical presence turned heads. Kaizer Chiefs have reportedly kept tabs on him ever since. According to the source, Marumo Gallants, Golden Arrows, and two other unnamed Betway Premiership teams have also shown interest. However, it's Chiefs who seem most determined to secure his signature. 'As much as Chiefs have enquired about him, so has Golden Arrows and two other Betway Premiership sides. But the scouts at Marumo Gallants know him better and that gives them a better chance of signing him,' the source revealed. Matlhoko's current club, Kruger United, managed to retain him last season despite previous attempts from clubs like Gallants to lure him away. This time, though, the level of interest has escalated, and Kaizer Chiefs are well-positioned to convince the player to take the next step in his career. 'It's not the first time they have shown interest in him. During the ABC Motsepe playoffs last season they wanted him but Kruger United kept him at least for another season,' said a source. With Chiefs rebuilding under pressure and seeking fresh attacking options, Matlhoko could emerge as a low-risk, high-reward addition. Will Matlhoko be able to handle the pressure at Kaizer Chiefs?
