Cristian Chivu said goodbye to Parma on Monday ahead of his move to his former club Inter Milan to replace Simone Inzaghi as coach.
Former Romania defender Chivu will take charge of Inter, where he won three Serie A titles and the 2010 Champions League as a player, after guiding Parma to Serie A safety in his first senior coaching job.
"I thank the club, staff, players and fans for having believed in me and our project," said Chivu on Instagram.
"Together we overcame obstacles and wrote a page (in Parma's history) which will remain in my heart."
Parma later confirmed Chivu's departure, thanking him for dragging the club out of the relegation zone after replacing Fabio Pecchia in February.
That was Chivu's first job in football since leaving Inter's youth set-up last summer.
Chivu has reportedly agreed a two-year contract worth 2.5 million euros ($2.85 million) a season with Inter who have gambled on the novice coach ahead of the upcoming Club World Cup, after failing to get Cesc Fabregas from Como.
Inzaghi left Inter last week in the wake of the Italians' thumping 5-0 defeat at the hands of Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League final.
Inter had been gunning for the treble but conceded the Serie A title to Napoli on the final day of the season, were knocked out of the Italian Cup by AC Milan and humiliated by PSG in Munich.

Man City add Ait-Nouri to squad rebuild in time for Club World Cup

Manchester City completed the signing of left-back Rayan Ait-Nouri from Wolves on Monday for a reported £31 million ($42 million). The 24-year-old Algeria international has signed a five-year contract and will be available for the Club World Cup, which begins later this week. Ait-Nouri is expected to be just one of a trio of new City faces for that tournament with deals close to completion for AC Milan midfielder Tijjani Reijnders and Lyon playmaker Rayan Cherki. After missing out on a major trophy in the recently completed season for the first time since 2016/17, City are hoping to bounce back quickly with a major overhaul of Pep Guardiola's squad. They also spent more than £172 million in January on Omar Marmoush, Abdukodir Khusanov, Vitor Reis and Nico Gonzalez. City will face Moroccan side Wydad AC and Emirati club Al Ain before a clash of European heavyweights with Juventus in the group stage, which kicks off on June 14. "City are one of the biggest clubs in the world and the chance to play for the club is a dream come true," Ait-Nouri said in a club statement. "I am also so excited about working with and learning from Pep (Guardiola) and his coaching team and getting to train and play alongside such a world class group of players." Ait-Nouri spent five years at Wolves, initially arriving on loan from Angers before signing permanently for £14.9m in 2021. He is City's first left-back specialist since Benjamin Mendy, who played his final game for the club almost four years ago. Oleksandr Zinchenko, Joao Cancelo, Nathan Ake, Josko Gvardiol and Nico O'Reilly have been among the players to fill a problem position for Guardiola since.

Big call for Pitso to return to Sundowns

Mamelodi Sundowns seemingly moved on from the CAF Champions League final heartbreak at the hands of Pyramids FC. However, the club's former winger, Anthony Laffor, is clearly not a fan of coach Miguel Cardoso and the political dynamics inside the club. The Liberian was part of the only Sundowns squad to win the club's only CAF Champions League title in 2016. According to Laffor, Sundowns' former coach, Pitso Mosimane, who brought the title to Chloorkop, needs to be re-appointed at Kabo Yellow. Transfer news: Mako said 'yes' to Chiefs and 'no' to Pirates Anthony Laffor celebrates with Bangaly Soumahoro of Mamelodi Sundowns during the 2018 Shell Helix Cup match between Kaizer Chiefs and Mamelodi Sundowns at the FNB Stadium, Johannesburg on 21 July 2018 ©Muzi Ntombela/BackpagePix 'Kaizer Chiefs bosses signed me, not the coach' – Gilbert 'Coach Pitso Mosimane, only if you could get a chance to take over our beloved club Sundowns, next season Champions League is sure. Let us put football politics aside,' Laffor called out on his Instagram account. 'It's about that time Pitso Mosimane comes back home. Only he knows how to coach Sundowns. I've been there, I know exactly what I'm talking about,' Laffor concluded.
