Shivraj Singh Chouhan interacts with farmers in Rangareddy dist, emphasises self-reliance in agriculture
Hyderabad, June 9 (UNI) Union Minister for Agriculture and Farmers Welfare, Shivraj Singh Chouhan, participated in a direct interaction programme with farmers at Mangalapalli in Rangareddy Rural district as part of the ongoing Viksit Krishi Sankalp Abhiyan.
Addressing the gathering, the Minister underscored the importance of agricultural self-sufficiency in realising the dream of a developed India.
'For the dream of a developed India to come true, there must be developed work—meaning self-sufficiency in agriculture,' he said.
Highlighting the record-level food grain production this year, he credited the resilience and hard work of Indian farmers and emphasided that Viksit Krishi Sankalp Abhiyan was launched with a vision to ensure long-term sustainability and prosperity in farming.
Chouhan stressed that agriculture cannot be managed solely from offices and research institutes. 'Our government reaches wherever agriculture happens—wherever farmers innovate and cultivate. We aim to solve problems by connecting directly with farmers at the field level,' he added.
He affirmed the Centre's commitment to supporting farmers not only in cultivation but also in marketing their produce. 'Agriculture is not just about vegetables and grains, but also includes avenues like beekeeping which can enhance farmers' incomes,' he said.
During the event, the Telangana Farmers' Union, on behalf of the BJP Kisan Morcha, presented a symbolic plough to the Minister as a mark of respect.
He was accompanied by Union Minister of State for Agriculture Bhagiratha Choudhary, who was also warmly welcomed by the Kisan Morcha.
Prominent attendees included BJP State General Secretary Gujjula Premender Reddy, BJP Kisan Morcha State President Kondapalli Sridhar Reddy, Kisan Morcha National Executive Member Goli Madhusudhan Reddy, Papayya Goud, State General Secretaries Padamati Jaganmohan Reddy and Maripalli Anjaiah Yadav, BJP Rangareddy District President Raj Bhupal Goud, and Kisan Morcha District President Ravinder Reddy, among others.
Various stalls showcasing agricultural innovations and schemes were set up as part of the Viksit Krishi Sankalp Abhiyan programme held in Ibrahimpatnam, drawing interest from participating farmers and officials alike.

Chennai: The high-level committee headed by Justice D Murugesan to formulate a State Education Policy (SEP) for Tamil Nadu as a counter to Union govt's National Education Policy (NEP) has recommended banning of all coaching centres and tuition centres running parallel to schools and colleges by individuals and corporate companies in Tamil Nadu. "Schools and colleges may go redundant if proper action is not taken against such nefarious practices. These coaching centres do not come under the purview of any regulatory body of the govt. This is for immediate attention for the govt to act on by creating a regulatory body with appropriate powers," Justice Murugesan's committee said in its recommendations submitted to the state govt on July 1 last year. About two lakh students of Classes XI and XII take coaching for National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) for MBBS, Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) for IITs, and Common Admission Test (CAT). Several schools offer integrated coaching for students for competitive exams from Class VI. It suggests inclusion of material in the school curriculum to address the evil of caste system. "The curriculum should engage with structures of inequality in society and work towards equality. For the social goal of the annihilation of caste, it is imperative that the curriculum addresses the evil in our society," the report said. It proposes a body to regulate deemed to be universities in the state. The body will regulate their admission procedure, ensure a quota for students from within the state, fee structures determined by fee committees, emolument structures for teaching and non-teaching staff, adherence to the reservation policy of the state. It recommends restraining the entry of foreign universities as far as possible, as it poses "a great challenge to the present structure and concept of the universities in the state. " Other SEP recommendations include common age for school entry as five years, no common exams till Class X, continuation of three-year UG and two-year PG courses, introducing four-year degrees as only honours and research degrees, continuing with the two-language formula, changing the selection criteria of school teachers, introducing open book exams, and coming out with a mission for state higher education. SEP is against multiple entry and exits and suggests delaying the academic bank of credits. It also lays more importance on physical education.

Mangaluru: Undeterred by the recent setback of direct flights between Mangaluru and Singapore failing to take off, Singapore-based NRIs launched an alternative strategy to boost tourism in Coastal Karnataka. Their new initiative, a series of curated tour packages for Singaporeans to Mangaluru, aims to significantly increase tourist traffic, ultimately reviving hopes for direct air connectivity. The first tour, 'Ashta Kshetra Darshan', a five-day spiritual and sightseeing journey, commences on June 13, with an inaugural batch of a small group. This marks a crucial step in showcasing the region's unique appeal. Future plans include 'Exotic Tulunadu' for adventure and beaches, and 'Rome of the East' focusing on historical churches and recreation. Rajesh H Acharya, director of HQ Connections Pte Ltd, Singapore, curated the tour packages with an aim to promote tourism in Coastal Karnataka, and to encourage direct flights from Singapore to Coastal Karnataka. We've pushed back 330 illegal foreigners, none of them has returned: Assam CM
Guwahati, June 9 (UNI) Iterating the BJP-led Assam government's stern stand on Bangladeshi citizens entering or living in India illegally, state Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Monday informed the Assembly that the government has pushed back almost 330 such unauthorised foreigners, and none of them has returned. 'It is not possible for them to return, and we are firm on this. And this pushback will be intensified, it will be expedited. The way illegal immigrants have entered the state from Bangladesh and Pakistan, we have to be more proactive to keep the state safe," said Sarma. The Chief Minister was replying to a demand by opposition members, including Congress' Debabrata Saikia and AIUDF's Ashraful Hussain to discuss on the issue of National Register of Citizens (NRC). While raising the issue, Saikia said that while the government has claimed to have pushed back illegal foreigners, some of them again entered Assam, making the government's stand vague on the issue. The Chief Minister further informed the House that the state government has also decided to reinforce the Illegal (Expulsion from Assam) Act 1950. "Under the Illegal Expulsion Act 1950, the District Commissioner, if he is reasonably convinced that a certain individual is a foreigner, can remove that individual without referring a case to the Tribunal," he said. The Chief Minister said the government has taken inspiration from former Chief Minister Bimala Prasad Chaliha, who had pushed back illegal immigrants. 'We are taking inspiration from the good works of the Congress,' he said while referring to Chaliha, who was a Congress Chief Minister. "There are two ways to identify illegal immigrants in Assam — one is the Tribunal and the other is the Illegal Expulsion Act 1950. There the word 'push back'is not there, but 'remove' is there," he added Expressing his concern over the issue, the Chief Minister further said that the government has found out almost 2600 Facebook accounts, which were operated from Islamabad, Riyadh and Saudi Arab. "They don't even welcome Rahul Gandhi, but welcome one particular individual from Assam. And I have documents, within the next ten to 12 days I'll provide some information about such accounts to the press,' he said. 'These accounts post only on two occasion, either on Palestine or on Assam, nothing else. I am not saying that the Muslims of Assam are not indigenous. Indigenous is a secular definition. ...
