Major royal 'won't get involved' in Harry rift talks after 'extreme disloyalty'

Daily Mirror2 days ago
Royal expert Jennie Bond has claimed the Duke of Sussex has missed his chance to patch things up with one major royal, who, at one point, may have held the key for a reconciliation
As rumours of peace talks between Prince Harry and King Charles continue to swirl after senior aides to the two royals were spotted at a meeting in London, a royal expert has weighed in on the claims that one major royal could mend the rift.

Earlier this week, a royal insider shared Harry should've reached out to his aunt, Princess Anne, more during the turbulent times within the royal family that eventually led to Harry and Meghan quitting royal life and relocating to California. The insider, a friend of the princess, who also played second fiddle to her brother, King Charles, said that they had first had the thoughts after Prince Harry's tell-all autobiography Spare was released.

But despite the insider's beliefs, former BBC royal correspondent Jennie Bond believes it is too late for the Duke of Sussex to confide in the Princess Royal, and to lean on her to help mend the relationship between Harry and King Charles, given his 'extremely disloyal' actions towards the Firm.
The insider allegedly said, as reported by the Sunday Times: "He [ Prince Harry ] really ought to talk to Princess Anne. She often talked about how, as children, she was treated so differently from Charles. She was second to him and kicked further down the line of succession as a woman, but she forged her own path.
"In her twenties, she was bolshy and upset about a lot of things, but she came through that. He should talk to her about her experiences. She is shrewd. She could tell him a lot about what she went through."

But as Jennie claims, the time for Anne to give Harry advice, both on how to navigate life as a 'spare' and how to fix his relationship with the royal family at large, has passed.
Jennie exclusively told The Mirror: 'Yes Anne would have been the perfect person to offer advice and guidance, but sadly, this is no longer relevant as Harry has made it quite clear that he has no desire to return to life as a working royal.

'She could have told her nephew that 'playing second fiddle' is the wrong way to look at his status. Instead, as she has shown, the second born can be an invaluable support to the institution of monarchy, and a vital friend, confidant and wingman/woman to the monarch.
'She could have explained that they are a team, a firm, working together to keep the monarchy relevant and using their platform to help charities and communities.'
Jennie also speculated that Anne may not want to get involved in rehashing the drama between Harry and Charles, and even questioned whether the Princess Royal knew the extent of the family rift.

She said: 'It may be that the King has discussed his family troubles with Anne, but I rather doubt that she would want to get involved. To Anne, loyalty is paramount, and I suspect she feels that Harry has been extremely disloyal to his father, his brother and the monarchy. She might well find that hard to forgive.'
Rumours of a royal reconciliation first emerged earlier this month when Harry's chief communications officer, and Liam Maguire, who runs Harry and Meghan's UK public relations team, met the King's communications secretary Tobyn Andreae at the Royal Over-Seas League at the private member's club is right by Clarence House - Charles' London residence.
While it is not yet known who initiated the appointment, the meeting has been described by sources as informal, with casual drinks intended to open a channel of communication between both camps.

Scottish TV in crisis as demand collapses amid economic gloom

Scottish TV has been plunged into crisis as economic gloom hits advertising revenues and demand for new shows. Scottish Television (STV), which holds the Channel 3 licence in Scotland and is the country's largest commercial broadcaster, has warned that its revenues and profits would be 'materially' below expectations this year. Shares in the broadcaster plunged by as much as a third to their lowest level in more than 12 years in response to the update, pushing its market value below £90m. ITV, which licences many of its programmes to the Scottish channel, was also down 2pc. STV suffered a 10pc drop in advertising revenue in the first six months of 2025, which it said was in line with expectations following strong trading in the same period last year during the Euros football tournament. But bosses warned the market had since deteriorated further, with ad revenues plunging by a fifth in July. In addition to the advertising downturn, STV warned of a significant slowdown in its production division, which is the largest in Scotland and is behind shows such as the BBC's Blue Lights and upcoming Sky drama Amadeus. Studio businesses are considered a key area of growth for broadcasters as they grapple with a decline in traditional TV viewing. But rising costs and tough competition from streaming rivals result in many channels having to cut back on programming spend, leading to fewer commissions. ITV last week said it was slashing its programming spending as part of a wider cost-cutting strategy, while Channel 4 is also investing significantly less in making TV shows. Focus on Britain STV said that while it is working on projects for US streaming giants including Netflix and Apple, it remains primarily UK-focused, meaning it has been 'disproportionately' hit by a drying up of demand in the domestic market. STV forecasts production revenues of between £75m and £85m for the full year, well behind its targets of £200m by the end of the decade. Overall, STV said it was lowering its full-year revenue forecasts to between £165m and £180m with a profit margin of around 7pc. Richard Bernstein, the head of fund manager Crystal Amber, which was previously the largest shareholder in STV, described the profit warning as 'vicious'. He said: 'We've been tracking the company and saw today's warning as inevitable: it was over a year since its last new studio commission, we think the worst is yet to come.' In May, STV announced that it would combine its traditional TV and streaming businesses into a single division, aiming to streamline the company for the digital age. It also announced plans to launch a new Scotland-focused commercial radio station while doubling revenues in its studios unit. Bosses said they were ramping up cost-cutting plans with a further £750,000 in savings identified, bringing the company's total target for the year to £2.5m. Further cost-cutting is expected next year.

Love Island fans speculate Harry's 'game plan' after savage recoupling decision

ITV Love Island fans are convinced they have worked out Harry Cooksley's 'game plan' as he made a savage recoupling decision in Sunday's episode Love Island viewers were quick to highlight the "game plan" of Harry Cooksley following yet more drama involving the 30-year-old Islander. Despite being coupled up with Helena, Harry has repeatedly engaged in cheeky and flirtatious banter with other girls in the villa. ‌ His ways have caused his former partner Shakira's attention to wander to him, despite being in a pair with Conor. After Friday night's dramatic events, fans are convinced they've figured out Harry's game as a shocking recoupling unfolded on last night's episode. ‌ Harry was left in tears after a tense conversation with Helena, who told him she couldn't remain friends with him - either in the villa or on the outside. While the boys showed their support as he sulked, the recoupling had fans all thinking the same thing. With only Helena and Shakira left waiting to be picked, Harry admitted: 'I've disappointed myself,' as he acknowledged that he knows he's not "perfect". ‌ He revealed he had "chosen to ignore" the emotions he felt for Shakira as he revealed whether he was leaving the villa solo, or heading back alongside her. He made his choice, with Shakira hugging him and leaving Helena standing in front of the fire pit alone - leaving the rest of the Islanders shocked with his speech, the Mirror reports. After Blu chose Helena, she listened to what he had to say but quickly got up and walked away from the fire pit. Meanwhile, fans took to social media to share their reactions. ‌ One user on X, formally known as Twitter, stated: "Harry knows Shakira is most popular with the public, his game plan working to a tee." While other viewers made their feelings crystal clear, as one user admitted: "If there's a vote I'm voting Harry and Shakira with no shame." A second added: "Just watch! People will vote for Harry and Shakira," while a third penned: "Yes Harry, beautiful speech, you're back in the game. Team Harry and Shakira" ‌ On Friday's episode, Harry was exposed to the villa for his actions that had caused a divide between the girls for weeks. He had played Shakira and Helena against each other several different times, sitting back whilst Helena and Shakira turned their triangle tensions on each other. Harry and Helena had become exclusive, leaving Shakira feeling devastated and completely heartbroken in recent weeks. Yet just one day after progressing their romance, Harry was dropping hints to Dejon about still fancying Shakira. He also hitted he wasn't particularly keen on Helena, before seemingly attempting to provoke an argument with her during the Grafties. ‌ The cringeworthy moments unfolding on screen saw Helena call time on their relationship permanently. His remarks about "loving" his former girlfriend Emma and his flirtations with others, plus his conversations with Shakira, all came to light during the villa's awards ceremony. The footballer also made a dig about having a better experience with Shakira compared to Helena. Helena eventually branded Harry "a f*****g joke". She then declared: "Shakira doesn't want you, I don't want you." The other Islanders couldn't help but smirk as Helena appeared to finish things once and for all.

Olivia Rodrigo's rollercoaster love life - high-profile love triangle to Paddington star

Olivia Rodrigo has had a string of rumoured high-profile romances, many of which have inspired her hit songs, from her fling with Joshua Bassett to her current partner Louis Partridge As one of pop's leading voices on the agony of young love, it's fair to say Olivia Rodrigo has had her share of personal pain. 'Her first album Sour was very much written in the pit of despair, and most of the songs seemed to be about losing the same boy,' says BBC music correspondent Mark Savage. 'She was definitely in that place where you're stuck in a cycle and can't think about anyone or anything else.' ‌ With 22-year-old Olivia - who is now in a relationship with Louis Partridge - admitting that Sour was inspired by 'earth-shattering' heartbreak, she told how Drivers License was based on her own journal entries. 'I realised part of the reason I wanted to get my licence so bad was because of… this boy,' she said, sharing an excerpt from her diary. ‌ 'I always felt bad about being too young to drive over to see him.' It was widely assumed the boy in question was her ex, High School Musical: The Musical: The Series co-star Joshua Bassett, who was rumoured to have moved on with Sabrina Carpenter after he and Olivia broke up in July 2020. ‌ 'She never confirmed any of those stories, but I'm not sure it even matters who the song is about,' says Mark. 'What matters is whether you feel what she's feeling, and with Olivia you absolutely do.' She and Joshua first met in early 2019, playing on-screen love interests Nini and Ricky, when they were 16 and 18 respectively. Regular Instagram selfies sparked speculation they had grown close off-camera, and at one point Olivia said, 'I love him so much. He's my best friend… It was like I wasn't acting.' But by the following summer, it was claimed they had split, with Olivia posting a TikTok video in which she ate a muffin with her song All I Want playing in the background. 'All I want is a good guy / Are my expectations far too high?' she sang, while captioning the clip, 'And that's on failed relationships.' ‌ Regardless of the mystery, an earlier relationship with her Bizaardvark co-star Ethan Wacker was said to have ended amicably. Though never confirmed, they were thought to have started dating in 2018, and Ethan, now 23, shared an Instagram post in January 2019 saying, 'Happy 6 months! You are the greatest.' The pair also enjoyed a trip to Hawaii, where Olivia captioned a photo, 'Heaven is a place on earth wit u.' It's thought they parted later that year, but despite deleting all their social media posts, they remained on good terms, with Olivia commenting 'He's the best!' when Ethan announced he was off to university in 2020. The following year, Olivia was reported to be seeing music producer Adam Faze. Again, it was never officially confirmed, but the two attended showbiz events together and were snapped kissing. But it was thought to have ended when Olivia unfollowed Adam on Instagram in January 2022. ‌ Soon afterwards, she was linked to DJ Zack Bia, and he attended her 19th birthday celebrations that February. However, by August the romance was said to have fizzled out, apparently due to clashing schedules. 'We hung out, we're both busy and we ended up not furthering our relationship,' Zack said. 'There was never any drama, you know?' When Olivia released fiery comeback single Vampire the following year, rumours spread that it was either about Adam, now 28, or Zack, now 29, since the lyrics suggested friction over a woman older than her. 'Went for me and not her / 'Cause girls your age know better,' she vented. ‌ Unsurprisingly, there was no official comment, and Mark says, 'We'll never know who Vampire was about, and that's probably for the best. In this kind of internet-sleuthing era, trying to guess is almost half the fun. From Olivia's point of view, keeping quiet about the subject of her songs helps grow their mystique.' When talking about her second album Guts, Olivia did reveal that a string of bad relationships had influenced the record, saying, 'Maybe I did things that maybe I shouldn't have – dated people that I shouldn't have.' And while on tour, she told fans in LA, 'I met so many people that I've dated on Instagram DM. Some of them a little questionable.' On another occasion, she spoke of a serious red flag when weighing up potential love interests. 'I always ask them if they would want to go to space… If they say yes, I don't date them,' she said. 'I just think if you want to go to space, you're a little too full of yourself.' ‌ Thankfully, Olivia's romantic status is currently far rosier, and she has been with British actor Louis Partridge for more than 18 months. After meeting through mutual friends, they were first snapped together in London in October 2023 as they shared a series of nights out. Louis, 22, who starred in the Enola Holmes films and Apple TV+ series Disclaimer, then showed up to support Olivia at iHeart Radio's Jingle Ball in New York that December, singing along with her best pals, Conan Gray and Madison Hu. In August 2024, they made their debut at Venice Film Festival, with Louis tenderly kissing Olivia on the head in one picture. They also enjoyed a lowkey outing to watch Manchester United play Chelsea in November, and surprised locals when they took a trip to north Wales the same month. ‌ Although she has avoided talking about Louis publicly, Olivia did post on his Insta page on his birthday last year, writing, 'Welcome to the 21 club angel boy!!!!' Meanwhile, the pair have looked particularly loved-up in recent months, schmoozing at the Grammys in February and the Oscars in March, while in January they joined pals Tate McRae, the Kid LAROI, Iris Apatow and The White Lotus actor Sam Nivola for a couples' break in the Caribbean. Louis was a regular supporter during Olivia's Guts World Tour as well as for her headline slot at Glastonbury, where she was also spotted on his shoulders watching Pulp play. During her Dublin show last April, many noted that she changed the lyrics of So American from 'Think I'm in love' to ''Cause I'm in love'. It was even suggested that the song, which featured on the deluxe reissue of Guts, was a message about their future plans: 'Oh God, I'm gonna marry him / If he keeps this sh*t up,' she sang. After admitting to being 'a hopeless romantic' in the past, Olivia once told how she hopes to tie the knot in the next few years. 'I just wanna be, like, 30, in a cool mid-century modern house with two babies and a husband, writing songs that I like, and having brunch with my girls on the weekends,' she said. But there could be a little more drama before she gets to that stage. 'Last time I interviewed Olivia, she told me, 'I've still got a few heartbreaks left in me,'' Mark tells us. 'I'm not sure she's quite ready to settle down just yet!' Olivia Rodrigo OK!
