Windies allrounder Andre Russell set to retire from international cricket after playing 2 T20Is vs Australia
Russell is a two-time world champion having won the T20 World Cup in 2012 and 2016. Since 2019, he has played only the shortest format of the game and has snapped up 61 wickets and scored 1078 runs in 84 outings.

'Words cannot explain what it meant. To represent the West Indies has been one of the proudest achievements in my life. When I was a kid, I did not expect to get to this level, but the more you start to play and get to love the sport, you realize what you can achieve. This inspired me to become better because I wanted to leave a mark in the maroon colours and become an inspiration to others,' Russell said as per a release by Cricket West Indies.
'I love playing for the West Indies and I love playing at home in front of my family and friends where I get to showcase my talent and produce more high-quality performances. I want to finish my international career on a high while being a role model for the next generation of cricketers coming out of the Caribbean,' he added.
West Indies coach Darren Sammy also lauded the destructive allrounder and wished him well.
'Andre has always been the consummate professional and a fierce competitor. Whether I was captaining him or now coaching him, his hunger to perform and win for West Indies has never wavered. I wish him all the best on his next chapter, and I hope he continues to inspire generations to come.'

The two certainties would be Abhishek and Shubman Gill, the two Punjab boys opening the batting together, that would be my opening pair. 3 and 4 would be Tilak Varma and Suryakumar Yadav," said Gavaskar "Depending on what the score is or what you need, you either put Hardik Pandya a little bit ahead, or Sanju Samson goes in to bat, there is also somebody like Axar Patel who can come in and bat, how well he batted in the final of the T20 World Cup in Barbados. That would be the way to go," said Gavaskar In the bowling unit, Gavaskar doesn't think Harshit Rana will make the XI, preferring the pairing of Jasprit Bumrah and Arshdeep Singh. Ajit Agarkar, the chairman of the men's selection committee, and T20I captain Suryakumar Yadav announced the squad during a press conference in Mumbai, which was delayed due to inclement weather. When the moment arrived, Agarkar ended the suspense surrounding Gill, who impressed in his debut series as Test captain against England. Star pacer Jasprit Bumrah 's inclusion, while the likes of Shreyas Iyer, Washington Sundar and pacer Prasidh Krishna 's getting snubbed, were the other major takeaways from the day. While Agarkar insisted that they could've only picked 15 this time around, he also urged the ones who were left out not to loose hope, especially with India set to play 20 odd T20Is before next year's T20 World Cup. "Sundar is always in the scheme of things. Not the final squad for the World Cup. At the moment we have three spinners in the squad. Whenever you need four spinners, he might always come in you in the equation. At the moment we though, Rinku Singh is the spare batter that we need. Jitesh and Sanju are the wicketkeepers. We can only pick 15, had there been 16, he might have been there," Agarkar said. After every World Cup, you try and plan for the next down the squad as close you get. With what 22 games you play, you have a fair idea. Injuries and form can dictate a little bit. There might be changes, there are no guarantees. But in general, because there is a World Cup around the corner, you will always know who are your best 18 or 20 guys to pick from. Ajit Agarkar, BCCI come under heavy fire for ‘backwards' Asia Cup selections: ‘No chance of winning with this bunch'
It's almost impossible to pick a 15-member squad for a cricket tournament that makes everyone happy, and that once again proved to be the case after the BCCI and the selectors' committee led by Ajit Agarkar named the team for the upcoming Asia Cup. This time, it was former Indian opener Krishnamachari Srikkanth who questioned the selection choices. 'We might win the Asia Cup with this team, but there is no chance of winning the T20 World Cup with this bunch,' said Srikkanth, immediately questioning some of the calibre of players India opted for. 'Are you going to take this team to the World Cup? Is this the preparation for the T20 World Cup, which is hardly six months away?' India will be defending champions at next year's T20I World Cup at home and in Sri Lanka, and as such will be early favourites. Further, he went on to argue that the BCCI's selectors couldn't seem to make their mind up about what factors to value, with the selections of that trio despite a quiet run in the IPL really surprising the former opener. 'IPL is considered the main criteria for selection, but the selectors seem to have considered performances before that,' he said. Dube, Rinku, and Rana did have a quiet IPL, with the main selection disappointment for most fans being the non-inclusion of Shreyas Iyer, who had a historic season as both batter and skipper of the Punjab Kings. Along with Iyer, the likes of Yashasvi Jaiswal were also looked over, with the choice to opt for the incumbent international players being made rather than unsettling too many of the personnel ahead of the Asia Cup.
