Political vendetta, says Rohit Pawar on chargesheet

Pune: NCP (SP) MLA and Sharad Pawar's grandnephew Rohit Pawar termed the inclusion of his name in the Enforcement Directorate's chargesheet in the alleged Maharashtra State Cooperative Bank (MSCB) scam as "vendetta politics" by the govt and said he was ready for the legal battle. The ED filed the chargesheet naming Rohit in connection with the purchase of Kannad cooperative sugar factory in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar by Baramati Agro Ltd, owned by Rohit and his family members, through an auction. Before naming the Karjat-Jamkhed MLA in the chargesheet, the ED recorded his statement in the past. In the alleged MSCB scam, the Economic Offences Wing (EOW) of Mumbai police had registered an FIR in August 2019 on the charges of fraudulent sale of the sugar factory by the directors of MSCB then at a throwaway price. The EOW had previously given a clean chit to all involved parties, including NCP leader Ajit Pawar and his nephew Rohit. Dy CM Ajit Pawar serves as the ruling alliance partner, while Rohit is in opposition. The ED had submitted the intervention application in court last year, challenging the closure report on the grounds that it would adversely affect their case as it was based on the EOW's FIR. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like So sánh mức trượt giá: Hợp đồng tương lai (CFD) Bitcoin vs Ethereum IC Markets Tìm hiểu thêm Undo The court has not yet reached a decision. Reacting to the ED's action, Rohit Pawar on Saturday said, "The FIR of this case does not have my name, but the ED kept all the 97 people named in the FIR aside and started a probe against me. Now, it has also mentioned my name in the chargesheet." He said, "Out of those 97 people named in the FIR, some are associated with the BJP or the Ajit Pawar-led NCP and the Eknath Shinde-led Shiv Sena. I am being singled out by the ED. This is nothing but vendetta politics." After filing of the chargesheet, Rohit said he was ready for the legal battle and would not succumb to pressure. "Others may have run to join govt, but I will hold my ground and fight it in the court of law. I am one of the few MLAs raising public issues in the assembly, and the govt is using Central agencies to silence me. I will not bow before Delhi," he said.

Crackdown on illegal vendors: 60 CCTV cams to keep watch in prime markets

1 2 Chandigarh: Cracking down on illegal vendors and encroachments on municipal land in the prime markets of the city, the municipal corporation is set to install 60 CCTV cameras in all three prominent markets of the city: Sector 22, Sector 15, and Sector 19. This initiative aims to maintain constant surveillance in these markets. Several illegal vendors operate in these three markets due to their commercial value and high footfall. The authority has identified locations for the cameras and prepared a financial estimate of around Rs 1.23 crore. The MC's enforcement wing has issued over 15,000 challans and recovered Rs 1.61 crore in fines within just six months, from Jan to June this year. The number of challans and the recovery of fines is significant this time, as last year, from Jan 1 to Dec 31, the MC issued a total of 19,473 challans and collected a little over Rs 2 crore in fines. Regular anti-encroachment drives are being held almost every day, with special drives also being carried out in Sector 22, Sector 15, and Sector 19 against illegal vendors and encroachments. Municipal commissioner Amit Kumar is monitoring every drive, while joint municipal commissioner Sumit Sihag leads the drives in the market. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like So sánh mức trượt giá: Hợp đồng tương lai (CFD) Bitcoin vs Ethereum IC Markets Tìm hiểu thêm Undo Sihag even remained present in the markets during the drives to supervise the functioning of the enforcement inspectors and related staff. The MC has also issued orders to give a weekly off to all enforcement employees, including inspectors, on Monday instead of Sunday. "Since weekends, especially Saturday and Sunday, are the main days for the markets when the maximum problem of illegal vending arises, the day off has been changed. Moreover, the duty timings have also been changed from 12 pm to 8 pm to 2 pm to 10 pm, so that maximum vigilance can be maintained during this major footfall period," a senior official told TOI. Also, just a couple of days ago, the MC also started the Street Vendor Mobile App and Vendor Cell Web Portal to promote ease of doing business for the registered street vendors. This digital platform is a step towards empowering street vendors by ensuring convenience, transparency, and timely access to essential services. It aims to streamline vendor-related operations and improve service delivery. INTENSIFYING THE CRACKDOWN MC to install 60 CCTV cameras in Sector 15, 22, and 19 markets Around 15,000 challans issued in six months from January to June 2025 Approximately 1.61 crore revenue collected from January to June 2025 Total vending zones: 48 Total vendors: 10,936 Licence cancelled: 6,902 Active vendors: 4,037 A Decade of Regulation and Resistance In Chandigarh, a comprehensive survey of street vendors was conducted in 2016, resulting in the registration of 10,903 vendors. Based on the findings, the MC allotted designated vending sites to these registered vendors. However, despite the allotment, many vendors did not relocate to the permitted sites. The vending sites were allotted for a period of five years, with vendors required to pay a monthly licence fee. The regulation of street vending in the city is governed by a structured policy framework, which includes the Street Vendors (Protection of Livelihood and Regulation of Street Vending) Act, 2014, followed by the Union Territory of Chandigarh Street Vendors Rules, 2015, along with subsequent amendments and notifications. These regulations also cover the functioning of the Town Vending Committee (TVC), which plays a key role in overseeing the implementation of street vending norms and ensuring compliance with the legal framework.
